Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a stark contrast in patient experiences at this practice. Clinical staff, including doctors and nurses, consistently receive praise for their professionalism, attentiveness, and medical expertise. However, this positive clinical care is substantially undermined by widespread difficulties with appointment access, reception experience, and communication.

Patients report significant barriers to booking appointments, with many describing the process as nearly impossible—whether calling at opening times, attempting online booking, or visiting in person. Long telephone waiting times, unavailable appointment slots, and inconsistent information from reception staff feature prominently across reviews. Beyond appointment challenges, reception experience emerges as a critical concern, with multiple accounts of discourteous, dismissive, and unhelpful interactions.

Patients describe feeling disrespected and unsupported during vulnerable moments. A smaller number of reviews acknowledge positive reception experiences and express satisfaction with the overall service, suggesting variability in staff conduct and patient interactions. The practice environment and responsiveness to patient concerns also require attention, with communication breakdowns between administrative and clinical teams creating frustration. While clinical excellence is evident, the administrative and reception systems require substantial improvement to deliver a consistently supportive care experience.

Terrible service and rude receptionists at abbey road

The staff at Abbey Road Surgery's reception are completely ineffective and incredibly discourteous. When I attempted to contact them, I was left on hold for half an hour, only to have my call abruptly terminated just as it should have been answered. I was desperately trying to obtain a prescription for my elderly mother, and upon making a second attempt, I was again met with the same dismissive treatment. I strongly urge anyone who has experienced services at Abbey Road Surgery to file an official complaint regarding the reception staff's unacceptable behavior. Their conduct demonstrates a shocking level of negligence, disrespect, and profound unprofessionalism that cannot be overlooked.

Heartless medical practice fails vulnerable elderly patient

Absolutely disgraceful! Refused to process a prescription renewal for my elderly mother, despite the pharmacist confirming they could easily send an email request. The receptionist acted like a petty tyrant - incredibly discourteous and dismissive! They claimed they couldn't handle a last-minute request and insisted my mother use online services, even though she'd called two weeks in advance and has no internet. She was left without her essential medication for the entire weekend. I was callously told to contact 111 because they supposedly can't help without 48 hours' warning. Even the pharmacist acknowledged how incompetent they are. These people would never survive in a real professional environment! I'm absolutely livid!!

Terrible receptionists making medical appointments impossible

The receptionists at this GP are completely ineffective and should not be employed there. I've been with this practice for over a year, and every time I attempt to schedule an appointment, the morning staff promise the doctor will call back, but he never does. When I follow up in the afternoon, the receptionist falsely claims the doctor called me. The next day, they fabricate another excuse, saying the doctor dialed the wrong number and I'll need to wait a week due to their error, despite being next in the queue. They persistently lie and interrupt patients after making mistakes. I strongly suspect they prioritize appointments for their friends through blatant favoritism, and they are utterly unqualified for their roles. The doctors themselves are acceptable, but securing a callback is nearly impossible, even in urgent situations, because the receptionists are indifferent and incompetent. Patients, especially vulnerable elderly individuals, should file formal complaints to have these dishonest and rude staff removed. Essentially, they're being paid to do absolutely nothing, and their performance is unacceptable.

Terrible service drove me to private healthcare

After more than a decade of consistent prescription renewals, they've abruptly halted my repeat medication and now demand that I physically appear at the medical practice every single month to personally hand my prescription to the front desk staff! Exhausted by this unreasonable process, I've ultimately decided to switch to a private physician.

Frustrating healthcare experience with zero help

Same old story. Booked an appointment. Waited 45 minutes. Described my issue. Received a call from the pharmacy without any examination. Antibiotics prescribed at Boots, and if I'm still unwell, I'm told to call back. It's disgusting how this happens every single time. Even getting an appointment for my 4-year-old child is impossible. The healthcare system is deteriorating rapidly. We need to revert to the way things were before, now that COVID is no longer a major concern.

Worst medical practice ever avoid at all costs

Completely worthless... securing an appointment is impossible, and the front desk staff are utterly ineffective... better to seek care elsewhere... 2023 update: I've been attempting to schedule a critical consultation for my progressively painful wrist injury, and their online scheduling platform is a total joke, constantly shifting wait times from 15 to 10 to 20 minutes, then back to 11 minutes, then 10 minutes (and lingering there for another 5 minutes).

Frustrating healthcare experience with zero support

Scheduling a medical consultation has been incredibly frustrating! I reached out to the 111 helpline regarding my health concern, and they suggested this should have been handled by my general practitioner. I'm still waiting for a return call, but so far, silence. Absolutely no progress.

Frustrating healthcare experience with impossible appointments

Navigating this medical practice has been an absolute nightmare. Securing a consultation seems like an insurmountable challenge when attempting to schedule via telephone. The appointment slots supposedly become available at 8:30 am, and even if you dial precisely at that moment, you'll be trapped listening to tedious repeat prescription guidelines for five minutes. Consequently, by the time you're through, all available slots have mysteriously vanished. Whenever I manage to reach the surgery through the 111 service, the waiting area appears nearly empty, which makes their constant claims of being overwhelmed quite perplexing.

Terrible medical practice with horrible customer service

I despise contacting this practice. I've endured illnesses rather than reach out & have only communicated on family's behalf. Telephone communication is an absolute exercise in futility. Excessively lengthy announcements before being trapped in a queue. The front desk staff appear trained to be hypersensitive, condescending 'ladies'. Should you express any justified frustration at the ABYSMAL service or highlight ANY mistakes on THEIR side (while remaining courteous) you're patronisingly told that you ARE being rude and offensive and they can terminate the call?! They demonstrate zero ability to multitask or handle criticism professionally and seem incredibly quick to take offence at the slightest provocation - I recognize this isn't uncommon nowadays but higher standards are expected from medical receptionists. One wonders how these individuals ever passed an interview. Requested a straightforward updated medication list for mother's blue badge application from the receptionist, only to be informed I must book a 'doctors appointment' to obtain it??!! Booking a doctors appointment is practically impossible!! What an utterly pointless doctors appointment that would be anyway. They'll CALL you about a 'pre-booked' vaccination appointment though - because they're compensated for that, so…Hmm 🤔 This surgery desperately requires new physicians… several look like they've emerged from a crypt, are incredibly patronizing and I personally couldn't comprehend why patients were STILL mandated to mask up while with the doctor when the doctor wasn't wearing one??!! Seriously?! So you must protect the doctor (from something he's evidently not concerned about 🤔), by wearing a mask but this 'prescription pusher' is exempt? I'm uncertain the term 'doctor' even applies anymore. This practice demands investigation.

Dangerous medical negligence destroys patient trust

The medical practice here is utterly incompetent and dangerous. Every patient seems to avoid this clinic due to their negligent care. The doctors completely disregarded my father's critical health issues, nearly causing his death through their shocking medical mismanagement. When he experienced a serious heart attack, they dismissively labeled it as a simple chest infection. Similarly, when clear signs of bladder cancer emerged, they casually wrote off his symptoms as muscle pain. Whenever my father requested proper diagnostic tests or sought medical documentation, they deliberately stonewalled and refused to help. Their behavior is tantamount to medical malpractice - they're essentially operating like callous killers who show no genuine concern for patient welfare.

Dangerous negligence endangering patient's critical health needs

Terrible medical care during my three visits. Each time I sought help for a genuine health concern, they dismissed my symptoms. First, they claimed I just had the flu and told me to take painkillers, when I actually had tonsillitis. The second time, with a broken foot, they insisted nothing was wrong and sent me away. The third time, when I discovered a growth on my body, they again said it was normal and told me to go home. I ended up at the hospital, where they discovered it was cancer. These healthcare providers are completely indifferent and only care about their paycheck, not patient well-being. Avoid them at all costs and seek proper medical attention elsewhere.
