Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reflects a mixed experience across the practice. Many patients praise the clinical competence and courteous communication of healthcare professionals, with particular recognition for continuity of care and the welcoming approach of reception and nursing staff. However, significant concerns emerge around appointment availability and the booking experience. Patients report lengthy delays in securing appointments, with some waiting a month without success. The recommended booking app lacks functionality for urgent consultations, and telephone contact shortly after opening results in extended wait times with no alternative solutions offered.

Reception experience presents a contrasting picture. While some patients describe warm and helpful interactions, others report unhelpful and discouraging responses, particularly during registration enquiries. Concerns about responsiveness extend beyond appointment access to include unactioned prescription requests and promised telephone consultations that did not materialise. These organisation challenges appear to create barriers for patients managing ongoing health conditions who require timely medical attention, potentially driving them toward emergency services instead.

Once patients successfully access clinical care, the experience generally improves, with healthcare professionals demonstrating attentiveness and working toward appropriate treatment plans. The inconsistency between access difficulties and positive clinical experiences suggests that operational and administrative improvements could significantly enhance overall service delivery.

Unprofessional practice caused delayed diagnosis

I would recommend that prospective patients consider alternative practices. The service fell short of professional standards, which contributed to a delay in receiving a diagnosis.

Receptionists and nursing staff were genuinely helpful

Lovely friendly staff. The medical receptionists are always very helpful and respectful. But in particular I would like to mention the surgery's nursing team who show nothing but genuine care and consideration. The nursing staff always offer the best advice and give amazing support ensuring the right care is given. For that I am very thankful. The nursing team is a credit to the surgery.

Phlebotomist got my blood draw right first time

The phlebotomist at this practice demonstrates exceptional skill when taking blood samples. At other locations, staff have found my veins challenging, but this individual consistently succeeds on the first attempt. They appear to be a central figure who contributes significantly to the smooth running of the practice. Their work is clearly valued and well-regarded by patients.

Practice should offer weekend appointments

The practice should consider offering Saturday and Sunday appointment slots. I believed this service would be supporting the NHS.

Getting an appointment is the real challenge

Many reviews mention that staff can appear somewhat detached, though this hasn't bothered me personally. I don't visit the surgery frequently, but when I have attended, things have generally gone well. The main challenge is actually securing an appointment initially, however once you're able to see a clinician or nurse practitioner, they tend to be quite attentive and work towards finding an appropriate course of action.

Receptionist lacked empathy and customer care

The receptionist demonstrated a lack of warmth and understanding in their interactions. Their approach appeared to lack consideration for patient needs and showed minimal engagement with customer service principles.

Reception staff actively discouraged me from registering

Contacted the surgery today to register and found the reception staff unhelpful. I was told there was a two-week waiting period for appointments and felt actively discouraged from joining the practice. Despite remaining courteous throughout the interaction, I received neither empathy nor understanding in response. I was even suggested to look into registering elsewhere instead. This was a letdown, though not entirely unexpected. I would recommend looking at other options if you prioritise a welcoming and caring approach from your healthcare provider.

Booking system leaves you waiting with no appointments available

It has been very difficult to arrange an appointment through the available booking system, as the app they recommend does not appear to offer options for urgent consultations or routine bookings. When attempting to contact the practice by phone shortly after opening time, there can be lengthy wait times in the queue, only to be informed that all available slots are fully booked with no alternative solutions offered, and being advised to try again another day. This approach feels particularly frustrating for patients managing ongoing health conditions who are experiencing pain and require timely medical attention. Many may feel compelled to bypass the practice entirely and attend hospital emergency services instead, which raises concerns about accessibility and responsiveness to patient needs.

Repeated broken promises about phone appointments

I have been attempting to secure an appointment for approximately a month without success. The reception team assured me on multiple occasions that a telephone consultation would be arranged, however I did not receive any of these calls. Additionally, my healthcare provider attempted to request a prescription on my behalf, but it appears this request was not acted upon by the practice.

Left after decades but staff were genuinely helpful

After more than four decades at this surgery, I have felt compelled to move to a different practice due to certain boundaries. However, I will genuinely miss the helpfulness and excellent staff members who work there. Nothing ever seemed to be too much trouble for them. Truly wonderful people!

Finally felt listened to and believed

After losing faith in my previous GP following the impression that they didn't care or believe me, I made the decision to transfer to a different practice. Having consistently heard positive feedback about the clinicians at this surgery from friends and family, I chose Albert Road as my new practice. Honestly, the doctors here are absolutely fantastic with a bedside manner that I've never encountered before! I would absolutely recommend this practice.
