Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reflects a mixed experience with significant variation in service quality across different areas of the practice. Clinical care receives consistent praise, with patients describing healthcare professionals as compassionate, skilled, and genuinely committed to patient wellbeing. However, appointment access remains a substantial challenge, with patients reporting difficulty securing telephone bookings, long waiting times, and limited availability despite calling at designated morning times. The reception experience is notably polarised, with some patients describing staff as courteous and helpful whilst others report unwelcoming, dismissive, or rushed interactions that leave patients feeling unheard.

Communication and responsiveness present mixed outcomes. The online consultation system has proven effective for some patients, delivering prompt responses within hours, though others experience significant delays or find the system difficult to access. Several patients have raised concerns about continuity of care, with reports of poor coordination between clinical staff and instances where patient concerns appear to have been inadequately addressed or dismissed. The practice environment is generally well-maintained, though some patients note declining physical conditions and equipment functionality.

A recurring theme across feedback is the tension between systemic pressures and service delivery. While some patients acknowledge the challenges facing NHS practices, others express frustration that accessibility issues and reception courtesy have noticeably deteriorated over time, particularly regarding the difficulty of securing appointments and the inconsistent professionalism in patient interactions.

Struggling to get things done at this surgery

It appears that many aspects of services in this area, including this particular practice, do not seem to meet expectations or function as intended.

Unresponsive practice with unhelpful phone appointments

The worst GP practice I have experienced. I do not understand how they continue to operate given that they never seem to respond to patient concerns. I reported experiencing headaches on multiple occasions and felt that my concerns were not adequately addressed, only to later discover I had a serious underlying condition. Additionally, when attempting to book appointments, the staff interactions were unprofessional and frustrating. This practice appears indifferent to patient wellbeing and their standard response seems to be directing people to accident and emergency. I would rate them extremely poorly if possible and am actively seeking to transfer to a different GP practice.

Helpful staff and useful self-service health checks

The reception team were pleasant and provided excellent assistance. The appointment was scheduled promptly. The practice offers a self-service station where patients can conveniently measure their weight, height and blood pressure.

Appointment cancelled with no prior warning

Had an appointment scheduled for 7:15 only to be informed that the clinician was unavailable due to illness. The appointment had been arranged earlier that morning at 9 o'clock. I have a medical concern that requires attention and have been unable to find anyone to address it.

Reception staff couldn't help book child's appointment

Disappointing experience with the service received. The reception staff appeared uncertain and seemed reluctant to arrange an in-person appointment, particularly concerning as this was needed for my young child. It felt as though the clinical team were unwilling to provide a face-to-face consultation, instead suggesting a telephone discussion would suffice. Having to explain my child's situation in detail to reception staff rather than being seen by a clinician was frustrating and uncomfortable. The manner in which I was spoken to throughout the process added to my dissatisfaction with the overall experience.

Rude staff who won't listen to patients

The staff came across as unhelpful and dismissive, showing little willingness to listen to my concerns. Securing an appointment has become an incredibly difficult process. It's disappointing to note that this pattern of poor accessibility and limited attentiveness seems to be a widespread issue across the various healthcare services I've encountered recently.

Booking system frustrating but consultation felt properly listened to

It proved quite challenging to secure an appointment or even arrange a telephone consultation, as the booking system was unable to accommodate me through the available channels due to my recent registration status. I remained uncertain about the timeframe required before becoming eligible for an appointment. After several days of attempting to arrange something, I eventually obtained a telephone consultation. The clinician demonstrated empathy and warmth throughout our conversation. They gave me their full attention while I explained my concerns, allowing me to speak without interruption. The clinician took time to explain my condition and the medication being recommended, and thoughtfully offered to arrange a face-to-face appointment to provide additional reassurance.

Impossible to reach by phone, but e-consult works

It is difficult to secure an appointment by telephone with the practice, as calling at the designated morning time slot does not guarantee availability. The challenge of obtaining an appointment can feel more stressful than the underlying health concern itself. The appointment booking system requires improvement. There have been occasions when emergency services were needed due to difficulties accessing routine appointments. However, the clinical staff members deliver their care competently once an appointment is successfully arranged. This is appreciated. Update: The online consultation service has proven to be a more effective way to book appointments and arrange health reviews. It is positive that this system is now operational, though additional booking options would enhance the service further. For those seeking appointments, registering with the NHS system and using the online consultation portal is recommended. Responses are typically provided within 48 hours, making this approach unsuitable for urgent medical needs.

Reception gave wrong appointment dates repeatedly

My time at this practice was disappointing and extended longer than necessary. The reception staff displayed unprofessional conduct on multiple occasions, including providing incorrect appointment times, which resulted in me taking time off work unnecessarily. When I raised these errors, they were not acknowledged with an apology; instead, I was told it was my responsibility, despite having both an appointment card and text confirmation. I experienced difficulty obtaining appointments for my young child, as the team stated there was no availability at morning times and declined to consult with a clinician about whether the matter was urgent. I received a prescription over the phone without the child being examined. There appeared to be a lack of coordination between clinical staff, with one team member expressing disagreement with another clinician's assessment and declining to proceed with a recommended procedure on multiple occasions. I decided to seek care elsewhere.

Practice failed to arrange necessary referrals promptly

I made the decision to transfer to a nearby practice as I felt the previous GP was not providing the referrals I needed and there were concerns about communication with specialist services. At the new practice, the referral process was arranged promptly and progressed within weeks. I believe the previous care fell short of what I expected, and I have sought legal guidance regarding my concerns about the standard of care provided.

Staff were genuinely helpful and friendly throughout

I believe this is an excellent practice. The team members are incredibly supportive and approachable, and the clinical staff demonstrate genuine compassion and consistently make efforts to provide quality care. Securing an appointment can present challenges, though this appears to be a widespread issue affecting GP surgeries nationally. The demanding conditions and workload that staff experience are substantial, and the negative treatment they receive is concerning. I consider myself fortunate to be a patient here and find some of the critical feedback posted elsewhere to be unconvincing.

Proactive GP who actually listens and cares

I recently relocated and am searching for a new GP practice, so I decided to compare reviews of potential surgeries with my current one. I was surprised to see such a low rating for my present practice, which prompted me to share my own feedback. The clinician I see is excellent—proactive in finding solutions while demonstrating genuine care and compassion. I'm genuinely disappointed about having to change surgeries, as it's challenging to locate a high-quality GP practice in this area.

Receptionists and doctors treated me with patience

I'm puzzled by some of the critical feedback this practice receives. Throughout my visits, I've consistently experienced patience and understanding from both the clinical staff and reception team. It's possible that some reviewers might benefit from considering how they interact with staff members who are managing a particularly challenging role.

Staff do their best under difficult circumstances

I believe many of the negative reviews posted here are rather unjustified - I'm not convinced that everyone fully grasps the constraints and limitations the team faces when managing appointments. The booking system isn't solely dependent on individual callers ringing at opening time, so it's understandable that staff become overwhelmed during periods of high demand. I'm also curious about claims regarding staff rudeness, as I've consistently been treated with respect whenever I've interacted with them, and I've made an effort to be equally respectful in return. I have witnessed instances where patients have become quite vocal and demanding, insisting that their needs take priority over others waiting. When you're regularly exposed to that kind of behaviour, it's natural to be less patient with someone frustrated about waiting times. The clinical staff have been excellent during my appointments. It's important to remember that these individuals are genuinely committed to helping patients and suggesting otherwise simply isn't accurate - I'd encourage anyone to consider the dedication required to work in this environment. As has been mentioned in other feedback, this is an NHS practice dealing with the significant challenges the health service faces nationally. If you're unable to acknowledge these pressures, private healthcare may be a more suitable option for you.
