Poor communication and lack of child care examination

I am deeply disappointed by the level of care provided for my young child. There have been two significant concerns with our experience at this practice. The first relates to the management of a recurring ear condition. Following multiple appointments, despite indicators of infection being noted, the clinicians seen were reluctant to perform a thorough examination and suggested a watchful approach without properly investigating the issue. I had to request an examination several times during one visit before it was eventually carried out, only to be advised again to monitor the situation at home. It was only during a developmental assessment conducted elsewhere that hearing concerns were identified and a referral to a specialist service was arranged. The second issue concerns the handling of vaccination records. When I submitted international immunisation documentation in mid-2025 and specifically asked to be informed of any missing vaccines, the practice did not identify a gap in the vaccination schedule. Now that my child has reached the age of two, the practice has declined to provide catch-up vaccination through the NHS programme and instead directed us to arrange and pay for private vaccination elsewhere, citing the delay as our responsibility. I have not received a reply to correspondence I sent in late January. The overall experience has been marked by poor communication and a standard of care for children that falls well short of what should be expected.

Receptionist helped us reschedule after messaging mix-up

My daughter attended an emergency appointment today. Due to a problem with the appointment confirmation message, we arrived after the standard clinic closing time. Despite this, the clinician was exceptionally accommodating and saw us regardless. This is the third occasion on which this practice has assisted our family, and I cannot speak highly enough of the experience. The clinician was wonderful with the children and demonstrated genuine care and professionalism.

Felt genuinely heard during appointments

I've attended appointments twice, once during a period of illness in pregnancy and once more recently regarding concerns about my family member. The clinician I saw was outstanding on both occasions and helped me feel at ease right from the start. I've seldom experienced such a strong sense of being listened to by a healthcare professional. My appointment did run approximately 20 minutes behind schedule, but I'm maintaining my 5-star rating because this is fairly common across many healthcare settings, and it's evident that the clinician was prioritising giving patients adequate time rather than rushing through consultations. I'd also like to commend the reception team, who have consistently been welcoming throughout my visits. During my most recent appointment, I noticed a member of the reception staff handling a challenging interaction with a difficult patient (who appeared to be experiencing anxiety) with remarkable composure and empathy while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries. I was genuinely impressed by their professionalism.

Repeatedly dismissed without proper investigation

I cannot recommend this surgery based on my experience. Over recent months, I have visited on several occasions and felt that my concerns were not adequately addressed each time. During appointments, I observed clinical staff using online resources to research my symptoms in front of me, and on other visits, I was sent away only to be redirected to another clinician before receiving a text message with findings that did not seem particularly significant. I have also brought my two daughters to this surgery multiple times. On one occasion, my younger daughter was unwell and had experienced notable weight loss, yet when I raised this concern, I was asked what I expected to be done about it. Following my fourth visit without satisfactory resolution, I took her to the emergency department at another hospital, where she has since received excellent care. Since registering with a different practice, I have experienced considerably more engagement and attentiveness from clinical staff in just one week than I did throughout my five years at my previous surgery. I now feel I am receiving the level of care and attention I was seeking.
