Online triage promising, but appointment fell short

I completed the online triage process. I received a prompt phone call from a clinician who came across as attentive and caring. I felt optimistic and reassured ahead of my appointment. I arrived at the scheduled time and was seen quickly. However, I soon realised that the clinician I met in person was not the same individual I had spoken to on the phone. The experience proved to be quite disappointing. The clinician did not introduce themselves. They did not acknowledge that they were a different person from the one who had called me. Their appearance seemed unkempt and did not inspire confidence. The mask they wore made it difficult to read their expressions. Although an examination was performed, I felt I had to work hard to elicit any commentary from them. I received no guidance, reassurance or understanding. The interaction felt impersonal and mechanical.

Refused help while visiting the area

I was also denied assistance while visiting the area during a break away. As a result, I had no choice but to make the journey to the hospital while feeling unwell and spend five hours in a waiting area, still feeling poorly, just to have a sample tested, receive confirmation of a condition, and obtain a prescription. This was a straightforward procedure that should have taken only a few minutes. I find this situation deeply disappointing. The urgent care facility clearly operates under significant pressure and strain, and I feel frustrated on their behalf as well.

Reception staff made booking appointments straightforward

I was registered with this practice and its predecessor organisations for over three decades. The reception team proved to be helpful and efficient when booking appointments or facilitating the now-standard triage telephone consultations. More recently, I found the clinical staff to be effective in both identifying health concerns and delivering appropriate treatment, as well as arranging onward referrals to secondary care when needed. The nursing and support staff consistently demonstrated efficiency and maintained a positive, friendly demeanor while performing their duties, including procedures such as blood tests.

Receptionist turned us away during holiday visit

The receptionist declined to schedule a GP appointment for our child during our visit to the area. We found this response disappointing and questioned whether it aligned with NHS guidelines.
