Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals significant challenges with appointment access and phone responsiveness, with patients consistently reporting difficulty reaching the practice by telephone and struggling to secure timely consultations. Prescription management emerges as a recurring concern, with reports of medications going astray, arriving incomplete, or failing to reach pharmacies despite following stated procedures. Reception experience presents a mixed picture: while some patients praise courteous and supportive staff who demonstrate genuine care and helpfulness, others describe dismissive, disrespectful, or unhelpful interactions that create barriers to accessing care.

Communication difficulties extend across multiple channels, including unresponsive phone lines, delayed responses to online consultation requests, and inadequate follow-up on committed callbacks. Appointment booking processes are frequently cited as frustrating and unnecessarily complex, particularly regarding the shift to triage-based systems and limited alternative booking methods. Waiting times for both appointments and in-person consultations are reported as lengthy, with some patients experiencing extended delays or call disconnections.

Positive feedback highlights professional medical staff, compassionate communication from certain practitioners, and instances of exceptional reception support. However, the overall pattern suggests systemic issues with organisational responsiveness and booking efficiency that significantly impact patient confidence in the service, despite pockets of genuinely supportive care delivery.

Amazing

Jaime the receptionist is amazing! A credit to the practice I moved practices two years ago from near Durham and they didn’t send my medical notes over and I have needed them for a job. I was having a nightmare with my old practice saying they didn’t have anything on me, I was becoming very stressed and upset and Jaime helped me so much she rang them and made sure I got them and she went out of her way to help me! She went over and beyond and I’ve never had a receptionist in a gp so helpful! Thank you so much! Everytime I come into the practice the receptionists are all kind and helpful when I’ve needed help! I can’t praise this gp practice enough with how they have helped me!

Terrible service and disrespectful medical staff nightmare

Utterly appalling medical practice. The front desk staff act like they're law enforcement, and when I explicitly state I don't want to disclose my medical issue, they insist they need to know? Actually, they have no right to my personal information, and sharing details is not compulsory. Furthermore, attempting to schedule an appointment now results in being told you can't book directly - instead, everything goes through a triage process where someone might call back if they deem an appointment necessary? So to even get medical care, I'm expected to reveal my private health concerns to a receptionist - absolutely not. I've already reached out to patient advocacy services and I'm committed to fighting this injustice on behalf of local patients who continually get marginalized and overlooked.

Heartless staff ignored my sick baby's urgent needs

I brought my 7-month-old infant, who was experiencing severe respiratory distress and cold symptoms, to the clinic, only to be dismissed without care. Staff rudely told me to leave and contact 111 due to no available slots. I was absolutely enraged because Edge Hill had committed to returning my call, but they never did. My daughter and I endured a sleepless, anxious night while she battled to breathe. The service was completely unacceptable and utterly deplorable.

Insensitive nurse traumatized me during blood test

I underwent a blood test today with a nurse who displayed a complete lack of professionalism and sensitivity towards patients with disabilities. He showed no empathy or understanding, calling me weak for being anxious about the procedure, which only added to my already stressful morning. As someone with Asperger syndrome and other challenges, his approach was deeply hurtful. The experience was so traumatic that I now feel extremely uncomfortable about future blood tests. I'm in tears because of how distressing this was, and I would strongly prefer to be seen by a female nurse instead of a male.

Exceptional care from incredible doctors and staff

I've had nothing but positive experiences with this medical practice... in fact, the reception staff are incredibly supportive and kind. Dr Hale and Dr Armstrong are absolutely exceptional. I'm extremely satisfied and feel fortunate to receive care here. I'm deeply disappointed that Dr Armstrong has departed, as she was truly outstanding. Thank you x

Terrible dental care that left me frustrated and angry

I can confidently declare this the most abysmal healthcare facility imaginable, where staff behave as if they're doing you a massive favor. Getting a dental appointment was an uphill battle, and when I finally saw the dentist, they merely prescribed antibiotics and callously suggested I find another dentist to complete my treatment! If my finances permitted private care, I'd run elsewhere in a heartbeat! Their complete lack of compassion is appalling. The manner in which they address patients is shamefully unprofessional. The NHS needs to intervene and address this terrible establishment. They don't even deserve a single star - in fact, zero stars would be more appropriate. I strongly advise everyone to avoid this place at all costs.

Terrible customer service and phone support nightmare

Always stuck in a phone queue for ages, waiting around 30 minutes, and when staff finally answer, they immediately disconnect the call. Then the line goes busy, and when it rings again, I just gave up in frustration. This place is completely unprofessional and a total waste of time.

Beacon health referral nightmare with incompetent staff

The initial referral to Beacon Health mysteriously vanished, and the subsequent referral was erroneously entered due to the receptionist mishearing my name over the phone and recording an incorrect first name. Now, I'm compelled to visit their office with identification documents to demonstrate the receptionist's mistake in inputting my name into their system. I would absolutely prefer to return to my previous general practitioner, even if it means taking the 82 bus back to Garston.

Worst healthcare experience ever frustrating nightmare

I'm throwing in the towel. Booking an appointment is impossible, whether through phone or their so-called "Evergreen" system. In-person visits are equally futile, with dismissive staff sending me away. The medical professionals can't even agree - one claims my medication is perfectly fine with no side effects, while another warns of potential heart risks. I've been battling this for years, literally from 2019 until now, and they show zero interest in addressing my specific health concerns. They're only eager to contact me about "service issues" rather than actually helping me manage my medical problems. As I've said, communication is completely blocked. I'm reduced to using this Google review just to request removal from their patient register. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- ^This review was originally posted 9 months ago, and I've received zero meaningful response. Their only communication was a vague promise to discuss my experience, followed by a random survey text months later with the patronizing message "Your opinion matters." Clearly, it doesn't. I'm convinced they're manipulating the inspection process.

Frustrating pharmacy mix-up wasted my entire day

My usual healthcare providers are typically reliable, but they mistakenly forwarded my prescription to the wrong pharmacy, despite my request to have it sent to a more convenient location near my residence. Dealing with painful, infected eyes, I wasted half a day traveling to the alternate chemist, only to discover the prescription hadn't been processed. I could have simply waited for my original doctor's pharmacy to handle it. The complete lack of communication and apparent dishonesty left me utterly frustrated and bewildered!!!

Terrible service and endless hold times

Awarded a single star due to an incredibly frustrating experience. Spent over 50 minutes on hold starting at 8am on Tuesday, only to be informed all appointments were fully booked. Attempted again the following day, and after finally connecting with staff, was directed to use the ask my gp website - which, unsurprisingly, doesn't function properly. Completely exasperated with this medical practice's inefficient booking system.

Terrible doctor and clinic avoid at all costs

Brownlow GP is an absolutely terrible medical practice, and Dr. Steven Heane is hands-down the most incompetent physician you could ever encounter. Steer clear of him at all costs. P.S. Interesting observation. After reviewing the comments, I noticed that most of the critical reviews seem to come from Eastern European residents, while the positive feedback appears to be primarily from local people. Rather intriguing, wouldn't you say? P.p.s: Shall I simply leave a one-star rating without further commentary?

Welcoming health centre with friendly and accessible staff

Situated at the intersection of Durning Road and Edge Lane, Edgehill health centre offers accessible disabled parking, though the approach involves a somewhat steep descent to the facility and its attached pharmacy. The interior is bright and spacious, with a generously sized, welcoming waiting area. What truly sets this centre apart is its staff - genuinely friendly and supportive, they break the mold of typical dismissive medical receptionists. Their helpfulness extends beyond in-person interactions, with phone support that is equally accommodating and pleasant.

Terrible medical practice with horrible phone service

I completely concur with previous commenters that this is the absolute worst medical facility imaginable. The receptionists are perpetually glued to their phones beneath the front desk. I spent an entire week calling repeatedly throughout each day, yet not a single call was ever answered. Desperate, I visited the practice directly because my child had run out of medication. As usual, the receptionist's response was to tell me I must phone to schedule an appointment. While standing right there, I called the reception desk on speakerphone, revealing their phones were completely inactive. I confronted them directly about how they expect to book appointments when their communication is so dysfunctional. This medical practice will continue to have these problems until they replace their incompetent reception staff. Every time you visit, the waiting area remains completely empty. I'm using an anonymous profile, and your system seems incapable of accurately tracking patient registrations. I've been a patient here for four years, yet you claim I'm not registered - absolutely ridiculous! You consistently claim no appointments are available, but the clinic is always deserted, like a ghost town. Why do these reception staff even work here if they're unwilling to assist patients? In just two days, I called 72 times without success.
