Patient Experience Summary

Patients consistently praise the clinical expertise and compassionate care provided by medical staff, with physicians and nursing teams receiving strong recognition for their professional knowledge and attentiveness. However, this positive assessment is significantly undermined by widespread concerns about reception and administrative services. Appointment access presents a major challenge, with patients reporting difficulties reaching the practice by phone, long waiting times, unreliable phone lines, and limited availability through online booking systems. Reception staff interactions are frequently described as discourteous, dismissive, and unhelpful, creating barriers to care and leaving patients feeling disrespected during vulnerable moments.

Administrative responsiveness has also deteriorated, with patients experiencing delays in prescription processing, insurance documentation, and general enquiries. Some report waiting months for responses from practice management, while others struggle with changes to online systems that have complicated access to repeat prescriptions and appointment scheduling. The contrast between excellent clinical care and poor administrative support creates a frustrating experience where patients value their doctors but feel hindered by the systems and personnel managing access to those services.

Positive feedback highlights instances of prompt same-day consultations, user-friendly online platforms when functioning well, and supportive nursing care. Several patients note that when they successfully reach the right staff member, their needs are met efficiently. The practice appears to offer good facilities and convenient parking, and minor procedures are available on-site. However, the consistency of negative feedback regarding appointment access, phone communication, and reception courtesy suggests these administrative challenges significantly impact overall patient satisfaction and confidence in the service.

I saw Dr Matthews in a highly anxious state. Having had sepsis on 2 occasions i was concerned i may have it again. Throughout my interview/examination with Dr Matthews she was kind considerate and highly professional. Her reassurance was very much appreciated as was her empathy, knowledge and guidance. A massive thank you. We are lucky to have you in Brighton.

Friendly staff helped me after bad experience

As a newcomer to the practice after an unfortunate 32-year stint elsewhere, I am thoroughly delighted with Beaconsfield Medical Practice, especially considering the distressing experience I had with Stanford Medical Practice, which is ironically located just two floors below. Beaconsfield Medical has been exceptional in every aspect of patient care, follow-up, and overall medical attention. The doctors - Dr Nicola Myers, Dr Annie Sturge, and Dr Oliver Madison - have been truly outstanding. I must also commend the compassionate nursing staff and give a special mention to Hugo at reception, who is incredibly proficient and consistently ensures patient needs are met. Even when face-to-face appointments aren't immediately available, their system guarantees that a doctor will contact you by phone for an initial assessment and arrange an in-person consultation if deemed necessary. It's comprehensive, patient-centered care at its absolute best!

Quick and caring doctors at beaconsfield

The level of service and attention my partner and I have experienced at this medical practice has been truly exceptional. In comparison to my previous general practitioner, Beaconsfield stands out for their rapid response, effectiveness, compassion, and professionalism. Despite my complex medical conditions, they have been incredibly supportive, attentive, and committed to providing me with comprehensive care. Additionally, I appreciate the user-friendly nature of their digital platforms and online systems.

Prescription troubles with broken phone line

Update: The situation has deteriorated. Previously, there was a straightforward email system for repeat prescriptions that I had mastered, but now it's no longer available. I was left in the dark for eight days. While the old method required occasional phone checks, it at least functioned. Now they're pushing me to "Get The App" or use their website booking system. I'm done with apps, whether for the NHS or any other service. The Phone Line is Completely Unreliable! It rings momentarily before switching to a constant tone. I genuinely fear this communication breakdown could have fatal consequences for someone trying to reach medical support. This has happened to me repeatedly. Someone needs to alert the authorities about this. Sitting in the waiting room, I'm hearing a continuous loop of patients' frustrations - similar complaints about prescription issues, even worse online experiences, where you go through entire sign-up processes only to find no available appointments.

Frustrating prescription run-around again

Once more, I find myself prescription-less. The medical practice remains closed, leaving me in a bind. I'm forced to bounce between various physicians just to obtain my medications. What should be straightforward has become unnecessarily complex.

I would love to award this medical practice an even higher rating! Despite understanding the challenges of healthcare delivery today, I can genuinely affirm that every single staff member at this practice has been exceptionally compassionate, polite, skilled, and supportive. The care I've received has been truly remarkable. I recognize that their work undoubtedly involves significant pressures and complexities, but I want to express my profound gratitude for their incredible dedication. My heartfelt thanks. P Mitchell

Hung up after fifteen painful minutes

I tried reaching out by phone, but the representative immediately disconnected the call. I've been on hold for a quarter of an hour already. It's frustrating how quickly they terminate the call without even waiting a brief moment to hear someone respond. I recognize they might have a hectic workload... But would it kill them to show a little patience?

Long wait made me feel worse

I spent 90 minutes on hold, waiting to speak with someone, and despite being first in line, I was still placed on hold. This is absolutely unacceptable, particularly when you're dealing with health concerns and urgently need medical attention.

Impossible to book an appointment now

Formerly, scheduling an appointment was straightforward by calling early morning, but now the line simply disconnects, leaving no option but to end the call. To secure any chance of an appointment, I'm forced to claim an emergency during midday hours, and even then, the resulting consultation offers minimal value. The receptionists often come across as unhelpful and confrontational. I attempted to contact them yesterday and again today, with both calls abruptly terminated without resolution.

Mole removal in just 30 minutes

Before the pandemic lockdowns, I had a flat mole situated right in the middle of my back, precisely where I couldn't reach it myself. By the time the third lockdown concluded, the mole had transformed. It was now an irritating, fissured, bleeding protrusion that stood out, causing pain and hemorrhaging dramatically if I accidentally brushed it with a loofah or towel. Clearly, this needed surgical removal! Fortunately, the Beaconsfield clinic offers regular 'minor procedures' on-site, which is substantially more convenient than enduring the lengthy surgical waiting lists at RSCH. The procedure was swift - one anesthetic injection and a few surgical cuts later, it was complete. The entire process took just 30 minutes from start to finish. The laboratory confirmed it was a Basal Cell Carcinoma (or skin cancer in everyday language). Thankfully, it wasn't the variety that metastasizes to other organs, but if untreated, it would have gradually spread across my skin like some bizarre organic growth. Absolutely fantastic service, truly impressed, and I'd enthusiastically recommend this procedure to anyone in a similar situation!

Rude receptionist ruined our doctor call

* RECEPTIONISTS NEED REPLACING! * I'm writing this review on behalf of my partner, who is extremely distressed. When she attempted to schedule a brief telephone consultation with a Doctor about a medical concern, she was met with an incredibly unwelcoming and discourteous receptionist (whose name we didn't catch) who seemed to be on some sort of power trip. The woman rushed my partner and appeared completely disinterested in performing her job competently. After reading other reviews about this practice's receptionists, such behavior seems unsurprising. In a patronizing and passive-aggressive tone, she flatly declared no doctors were available today and advised calling back tomorrow, adding that "unless it's an emergency, no doctors will be available" - which bizarrely suggests GPs only handle emergency cases. Suspecting something was amiss, we called back mere minutes later. This time, a courteous and helpful gentleman answered. When we repeated our original request, he actually listened and allowed us to explain the medical issue - unlike the previous receptionist. Remarkably, he effortlessly booked a phone appointment for my partner within hours. This suggests the first receptionist deliberately misled us, which is absolutely unacceptable. Poor customer service happens, but when it involves healthcare and patients are treated with such blatant negligence, it becomes disgraceful. I sincerely hope senior staff will read this review and the numerous similar complaints, and take meaningful action to address these serious issues.

Rob saved my medication mix-up

A communication mix-up occurred on both sides that resulted in a postponement of my prescription. The pharmacy technician, Rob, reached out, guiding me through the resolution process and remained on the line until everything was sorted. He even followed up with a text message 20 minutes later to confirm everything was back on track. His attentive approach and calm demeanor were incredibly helpful, as I likely would have become frustrated navigating the situation alone. I'm truly grateful for his support and professionalism.
