Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a deeply divided experience at this practice, with significant challenges in appointment access and reception experience contrasting sharply with positive feedback about clinical care. The most consistent concern across reviews is the difficulty securing appointments, with patients reporting waits of several weeks to months, compounded by phone line accessibility issues and reception staff who are frequently described as unhelpful, dismissive, or discourteous. Many patients report that receptionists attempt to gatekeep access to clinicians or redirect concerns without proper assessment. Communication barriers extend beyond appointment booking, with slow response times to queries and limited follow-up on test results creating frustration.

Where clinical care is accessed, feedback is notably more positive, with doctors and nursing staff frequently praised for professionalism, competence, and compassion. Several patients specifically commended individual practitioners and the quality of surgical and nursing procedures. The practice environment is generally described as clean and well-maintained. However, this positive clinical experience is substantially undermined by the access and reception difficulties that prevent many patients from reaching care in the first place.

The inconsistency between clinical quality and service accessibility represents the core issue. Patients express frustration that excellent doctors are difficult to reach, and reception processes appear to create unnecessary barriers rather than facilitate patient access. Some newer patients report smoother experiences, while long-term patients describe a decline in service quality over recent years. This pattern suggests systemic challenges in appointment scheduling, reception training, and communication protocols that require attention to align the practice's clinical strengths with its service delivery.

Diabetes care fails patient with poor communication

I'm utterly frustrated with the healthcare service my boyfriend received today during what was supposed to be his diabetes check-up. They merely collected a urine and blood sample, but the real problem is he can't obtain his prescription until a medical review scheduled for September 25th - which is a phone consultation, which I find completely absurd. It's currently August 12th, and their lack of urgency for such a critical health matter is appalling. Moreover, they haven't provided enough medication, leaving him without essential drugs for a week, which has consequently made him unwell. When he expressed his immediate need for the prescription, the doctor claimed she doesn't understand the medication aspects of diabetes and suggested he ask the front desk. Excuse me? A medical professional admitting she doesn't comprehend the intricacies of managing diabetes is unacceptable. Diabetes isn't a condition you can casually manage without thorough understanding. This healthcare facility is completely incompetent, and I would never recommend them to anyone dealing with any medical issues whatsoever.

Exceptional Service at Beechwood Medical Practice

I signed up with Beechwood two years back after relocating. I've never had any issues securing an appointment. My calls are promptly answered, and they make an effort to fit me in. The receptionist asks relevant questions without attempting to diagnose; instead, they seek out the best appointment suited to my requirements. I’ve undergone various tests, and they consistently follow up with the results afterward. The physicians are excellent at what they do and ensure that everything is clearly explained. I truly have no complaints about their service whatsoever.

Unprofessional GP Practice Dismisses Eye Problem Patient

I attempted to schedule an appointment with my general practitioner, calling at 8 AM. I was informed by an incredibly unprofessional receptionist that due to my eye issue, I should reach out to an optician instead. She mentioned that she could provide a few contact numbers if required. After speaking with the optician, who advised me there were no available appointments, I called back only to be told by another staff member that I needed to consult a pharmacist first—yet another attempt to divert my concerns. Despite having previously seen the pharmacist for this very matter, the person on the other end abruptly hung up on me. This experience highlighted a deeply flawed practice and a shocking lack of professionalism from individuals who seem overly eager to make decisions about your health without proper evaluation. It's crucial for others to be aware; this medical office warrants serious reporting for its inadequate service and approach towards patient care.

There are no appointment’s

I have been with this practice for 2 months and tried to boo k 2 appointments and have received very poor service on both occasions and simply cannot get an appointment. You go on line it directs you to the phone, I rang today at 0800 and was told there were no appointment’s and that’s it and to try again tomorrow. This loop of ring and no appointments so ring tomorrow is the norm and having been assured that the pre Christmas issue was a one off due to high demand etc and “Under normal circumstances” appointments were available is a simply un truth. There is a complaints procedure that is unfit for purpose as it doesn’t work and you get verbal assurances that are simply not true as I have found out. Where are all these doctors and why can’t you get an appointment with one. Terrible customer service and when I saw a GP he didn’t listen to me and he knew better which led to ineffective pain medication that I have had to live with after I had an operation which I pointed out would be the case.

Medication Denied for Child's Critical Appointment

I reached out to explain that I had a significant appointment for my son, which required me to have my medication today, Thursday, rather than tomorrow. Without it, I am unable to move. Unfortunately, the earliest I could collect it was 9 AM, but our appointment in Manchester is scheduled for 9:30 AM. Their response was essentially dismissive; they made it clear that they wouldn't be accommodating my request. This means I'm unable to take my son to an appointment we've been waiting a year for. When I requested to speak with a doctor about this matter, the answer was no and then they abruptly hung up on me. It's appalling how some practices operate as if controlling people's lives is just a game; it's utterly ridiculous.

Rude Receptionists Deny Appointments and Dismiss Patients

I have experienced extremely unsatisfactory service from two different receptionists at this medical practice. One is a male, while the other is a female named Charlotte. They both seem to believe they hold authority similar to that of doctors, treating patients with disrespect and refusing to offer either in-person or telephone appointments. I was told my concerns could wait for a week as they were not deemed urgent, after which the call was abruptly disconnected. When I called back, the same thing happened again; my call was terminated without warning. It’s imperative that you instruct your reception staff on proper etiquette and interpersonal skills. As a patient, I am appalled by how I have been treated here. However, there is one wonderful woman working at the front desk whose name escapes me; she stands out as exceptionally kind and helpful compared to her colleagues by a significant margin.

Rude Receptionist Ruins Mother's Doctor Visit Experience

I am giving this establishment a one-star rating due to the unpleasant encounter I had with the receptionist. My two-year-old child was quite energetic and moving around, and despite my efforts to manage her, the receptionist's attitude was exceptionally rude. She essentially suggested that I should restrain my daughter to a chair. After waiting for 40 minutes, it’s only natural for a toddler to become restless; they should have some toys available for young children during such waits—perhaps through donations rather than expecting new purchases. The entire situation caused me significant distress, especially since I struggle with anxiety. Although I didn't catch the name of that particular staff member, it was an incredibly disheartening experience overall. However, on a positive note, I do rate the doctors five stars; they simply need to improve their reception service staff.

Receptionist Denies Urgent Appointment Despite Seven-Week Wait

It's quite unbelievable. I've been attempting to schedule an appointment for seven weeks now. Samantha, the receptionist, refuses to assist me in securing one. She continuously tells me to visit the pharmacy, only for them to inform me that they are not equipped with the necessary information and suggests I consult another location instead. The pharmacist insists that I require an urgent appointment; however, the receptionist is now claiming that after waiting this long, an appointment is no longer necessary for me. Her demeanor over the phone has been exceptionally rude and condescending.

Great Care Vanished After COVID Struck

I have been a patient of this medical practice for more than a decade, and prior to the onset of COVID-19, they provided exceptional care. However, in the past three years, my level of concern regarding their services has plummeted from 98% to just 35%. There appears to be a complete lack of attention towards serious health issues. Additionally, it is utterly absurd to contend with their staff just to secure an appointment. They now seem convinced that they possess some sort of telepathic ability and can diagnose ailments solely through phone consultations. Often, I receive calls from doctors whose identities I am not familiar with; these conversations frequently focus on obesity despite my own struggles—such as needing three insulin injections each day while consuming significantly less than an average person. My blood sugar levels remain uncontrollable due to this lack of support from anyone within their system. If only it were easy for me to switch providers! Unfortunately, my autistic granddaughter's needs make that option unfeasible at this time.

Friendly Staff Makes Beechwood Surgery Stand Out

Many other general practice clinics have created a challenging process for scheduling appointments and registration; however, Beechwood stands apart from that trend. The staff here is exceptionally warm and accommodating, and the overall environment of the facility is quite pleasant. Poor Communication and Rude Staff Plague Healthcare

Experiencing unprofessional behavior from the staff over the phone, there seems to be a complete lack of communication among doctors regarding test results. Additionally, there is no dialogue when it comes to altering medications. When inquiring about these issues with the receptionist, their response can be curt and dismissive, insisting that you schedule an appointment five weeks out. Furthermore, a nurse who is unable to draw blood instructed me to reschedule after waiting six weeks for that very appointment. I intend to file a formal complaint about this situation.
