Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a mixed experience across the practice, with significant variation in satisfaction levels. Many patients report positive interactions with reception staff who demonstrate courtesy and responsiveness, alongside compassionate medical professionals who provide attentive care. However, appointment access remains a persistent challenge, with patients frequently citing difficulty securing timely consultations through both phone and online booking systems. Several reviews highlight frustration with extended waiting periods and the practice's preference for directing patients toward alternative services rather than offering direct GP appointments.

Communication and continuity of care emerge as areas of concern, with some patients reporting lack of follow-up on treatment outcomes and inconsistency when seeing different practitioners. Reception experience is notably polarized, with some staff receiving praise for going above and beyond, whilst others are described as discourteous or unhelpful. The practice's digital booking platforms, including e-consult and online systems, generate mixed reactions—some patients find them efficient and convenient, whilst others experience frustration with capacity limitations and rescheduling complications.

Where patients do access care, medical treatment is frequently described as effective and supportive. Several long-term patients express appreciation for the practice's responsiveness to urgent needs and the quality of clinical care provided. However, concerns about medication delays, appointment cancellations, and perceived organizational inefficiency suggest systemic challenges that impact the overall patient experience, particularly for those with complex or ongoing healthcare needs.

Excellent!

Brookside medical team saved my day

Throughout my interactions at Brookside, I've consistently experienced top-notch care from all staff members, including physicians, medical professionals, and front desk personnel. Despite facing challenges during the pandemic with limited personnel, they have maintained an impressive level of service, and I've never encountered a single disrupted or canceled appointment. This healthcare facility is truly a valuable resource for our community.

Struggling to book an appointment online

Title: Once a Quality Surgery. A Few Compassionate Doctors Still Exist - If You Can Find Them. How to boost profits? Simple: become as inaccessible as possible and push patients toward additional paid services. Attempt to book an appointment online, and you're met with a labyrinth: 'e-consult' or 'book online'. Click 'book online', and you're redirected to NHS App information or Patient Access. Confused? You're essentially forced back to the dreaded 'e-consult' option. Your challenges are just beginning! Numerous services are listed - select 'shoulder problem', and you're presented with three choices: 1. Consult a pharmacist (apparently now acting as surrogate GPs who can diagnose, treat, and see you immediately - really?!). 2. Get NHS self-help advice. 3. Contact your GP practice. These generic responses apply to every listed condition. From here, computer algorithms become your pseudo-physician. You're bombarded with sensible and nonsensical questions. If your condition is severe, alarming red instructions appear, essentially telling you the system will 'terminate' and require your intervention - leaving you uncertain about next steps. Despite warnings that choosing a lenient option risks your health, you proceed. Somehow the form submits, promising a review in two days and a potential telephone consultation that might determine whether you're worth a GP examination. You'll likely be dismissed during this anticipated phone call. If you miraculously secure an appointment weeks later, congratulations. But no guarantee exists of specialist referral - you're entirely dependent on the GP's discretion. Only by chance might you encounter an 'old-school' physician willing to listen. Verdict: 1. NHS has transformed into an ambiguous public-private hybrid. 2. Profit strategies involve reducing accessibility and indirectly pushing patients toward private services. Recommendation: Restore traditional service models. Patients - especially elderly individuals and parents - require direct, unencumbered healthcare access. Your fundamental purpose is healing, nothing more. Footnote: The surgery's website suppresses critical reviews - I've attempted submission. Observe for yourself: such a large practice, yet merely 14 reviews.

Frustrating referral process with unhelpful staff

Scheduling an appointment is incredibly frustrating and overwhelming. After all necessary confirmations, it took over two weeks to secure a referral to a private hospital. The reception staff consistently redirect patients to call 111 instead of helping book an actual appointment. It seems clear that this general practitioner has no genuine concern for their patients' well-being.

Pleasant visit with my infant, with smooth self-registration and attentive service during the appointment. Just a tip: if you're driving, plan to arrive a bit earlier since parking can be challenging to secure.

Smooth online booking after rocky start

After relocating to the region in 2021, I initially felt frustrated by the difficulty of scheduling an appointment via phone, and in-person visits were not permitted. I attributed these challenges to pandemic restrictions and the significant senior population in the area. Recently, I've found my experiences to be quite positive, and I genuinely value the services they provide. The digital booking platform and associated documentation process are particularly user-friendly.

Frustrating phone tag with medical center

I got this referral through my occupational health clinic. Their phone line consistently redirects to voicemail. When they finally returned my call, I was unavailable due to another conversation. Their message promised a follow-up call that never materialized. To make matters worse, I've now been redirected to Wokingham Medical Center, which has an even lower reputation. Frustrating!

Ignored and dismissed at my local surgery

Would rate zero stars if possible. It's truly disappointing because they once provided excellent medical care. They demonstrate complete indifference towards patients - I've submitted approximately 30 e-consultation forms since my daughter's birth and continue to feel unheard. Their information regarding medications is unreliable. When I inquired with a doctor today about potential medicine interactions, I received a dismissive "should be okay to take them together" - SHOULD BE?!!! It's absolutely appalling that not a single healthcare professional in this practice has recognized my evident mental distress, despite numerous desperate attempts to have my symptoms taken seriously. I suspect they would remain oblivious even if I were mere hours from a critical medical emergency. My sole recommendation is to steer clear of this practice.

Terrible doctors who don't care anymore

Absolutely dreadful medical practice that should be steered clear of. What might have been acceptable a decade and a half ago has seriously deteriorated. I'm actively seeking to transfer to a different general practice to escape this disorganized group. They constantly rotate unfamiliar physicians, I've never once encountered my designated doctor, and they appear to have completely abandoned any standard of professional care. Without doubt, this is the most substandard GP surgery I've ever experienced, and the quality is thoroughly disappointing.

Frustrating wait for senior mom's care

I'm struggling to schedule a doctor's visit for my elderly mother, who's 89 and dealing with health complications. Every time I try to book an appointment, I hit roadblocks. Just last week, I managed to call, but they had no available slots. I'm completely at a loss about how to proceed and get her the medical care she needs.
