Appointment cancelled without informing me beforehand

I am a patient with a strong command of the English language. My initial experience with your clinic was deeply disappointing. An interpreter was arranged for my appointment without my knowledge, and my appointment was rescheduled to accommodate this. When I contacted the clinic to query why my appointment had been cancelled shortly before it was scheduled, I was informed that I had personally visited the clinic, requested an interpreter, and rebooked my own appointment. This was not accurate. While I recognise that mistakes do occur, the absence of an apology or acknowledgment that an error might have taken place was concerning. Either a significant administrative error occurred or there was confusion with another patient, neither of which reflects well on the service. The situation felt troubling, whether due to unconscious bias or simply poor administrative practice. At that time, I was inclined to view it as an unfortunate misunderstanding, though poorly managed. However, a year later, my partner experienced a comparable situation involving similar miscommunication and lack of accountability. This second incident raises questions about whether there is a broader systemic issue with how the clinic communicates with patients and handles responsibility for errors. I recognise that alternative clinics in the area are limited, which constrains our options. Nevertheless, I would encourage the clinic to reflect on this feedback and commit to ensuring all patients receive respectful treatment, clear communication, and a genuine willingness to acknowledge and address mistakes when they occur. Reception staff are consistently friendly and helpful

I have been with this surgery for over ten years now and they are exceptional. I find the current clinical staff are extremely kind, thorough and helpful, and the reception team are always friendly and helpful - I'm genuinely not sure where the comments about staff being rude come from as in my ten years with this practice I have never found them to be anything other than kind, rational and respectful. I've never had a problem getting through on the telephone, obtaining my regular prescriptions, or securing an appointment. The way they manage daily appointments seems reasonable within the current NHS context and available resources. When I attend my appointments, I have never waited more than a few minutes past my scheduled time, which is in stark contrast to my previous practice where it was almost always at least an hour's wait past the appointment time. From what I've observed, the surgery takes feedback seriously and implements changes in response to patient needs. In my experience, this practice is far superior to many others in the local area, and I would readily recommend this excellent practice.

Reception staff made everything feel straightforward

The medical team consistently delivers excellent care. I have been attending this practice since 2000 and have always found the staff to be outstanding. The phlebotomist provides a professional service, while the practice manager is exceptionally responsive and helpful when addressing any concerns or queries that arise. The reception team members are unfailingly supportive, reliable and personable in their interactions. During a recent visit, I was seen by a clinician who diagnosed an ear infection. I have also had the pleasure of meeting another team member who is clearly a valued asset to the practice. Overall, I have great confidence in the surgery and its staff.

Reception staff blamed patients for their mistakes

I registered at this GP practice when I moved to the area for university, and my experience has been very disappointing. There have been ongoing issues with prescription processing delays, and I found the reception team unhelpful when trying to resolve problems, with responsibility seeming to be deflected rather than addressed. About a month ago, I received a letter indicating I was outside their catchment area and would be deregistered. I contacted them to clarify that I lived locally, and they assured me I would remain registered. I submitted a prescription request a week ago and attended the pharmacy today to collect it, but nothing had been dispensed. When I called the practice to follow up, I was told I was no longer registered with them. This came as a shock given the previous conversation, and the situation has created significant complications for me given my ongoing medication needs. I feel the practice's communication has been unreliable, and I would recommend looking elsewhere for your healthcare needs.

This practice has been among the most disappointing I have attended. The team's demeanor was unwelcoming and unhelpful throughout my visits. When I presented with a skin condition, the referral process seemed unclear, and I was directed to a service that was unable to offer appropriate treatment for my concern. During an appointment for a respiratory illness, I noticed discrepancies between the vital signs displayed on the monitoring equipment and what was recorded in my medical notes. The respiratory assessment also appeared incomplete. The physical environment of the surgery appeared to lack adequate cleanliness and maintenance, which contributed to an overall impression of poor standards. The combination of these factors left me with concerns about the quality of care and the general management of the practice.

Reception staff's dismissive attitude made things worse

The administrative and reception team created a difficult experience. There were concerns about comments being added to medical records and inconsistency in how services were made available to different patients. During a period of personal mental health challenges, this made accessing GP care particularly stressful and unpredictable. The reception staff did not appear to prioritise patient wellbeing, particularly regarding mental health support. I would recommend others consider alternative practices. The clinical staff were adequate, but the overall experience was undermined by the difficulties encountered with the administrative team.

I would not suggest this practice to students attending university. The reception staff came across as dismissive and unhelpful in their manner. It took considerable effort over a period of time to arrange a consultation, only to receive what felt like oversimplified guidance that I found condescending and unhelpful for my situation. Following ten days of discomfort without receiving meaningful support or an appointment slot, I contacted an alternative service and was promptly directed to an urgent care centre where I received appropriate treatment. Given that this practice has links to the university, I felt they showed little understanding of student needs and gave me the impression that my concerns were not taken seriously. I am currently in the process of registering with a different GP practice.

Impossible to reach, rude reception staff

Poor service overall. Struggling to secure appointments. Phone lines are frequently unavailable. On the rare occasion a call connects, the reception staff come across as unhelpful, dismissing concerns and stating that appointments are not available for several days, insisting matters are not urgent. This approach feels frustrating when seeking medical attention. The difficulty accessing care has negatively impacted my studies, and I have decided to switch to a different practice based on this experience.

Receptionists made every phone call feel like an inconvenience

I am currently in the process of switching to a different practice and I cannot wait to make the change. While the clinical staff are satisfactory, I have significant concerns about the front desk team. I find their manner to be discourteous, lacking in compassion, and dismissive. It appears they may benefit from refresher training in professional communication and customer service standards. Each time I have contacted the practice by phone, I have felt treated as though I am an unwelcome burden. The overall attitude and tone have been unkind and unhelpful. I am particularly concerned about how vulnerable patients, such as young people accessing services for the first time, might be affected by this approach and whether they would feel confident enough to advocate for their own needs. I am keen to complete this transition as soon as possible.

The receptionist was exceptionally helpful and went out of her way to complete my registration right away, which meant I was still able to be seen that same day.
