Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a notably divided experience at this practice, with clinical care consistently praised but reception and administrative services presenting significant concerns. Patients report that clinicians demonstrate professionalism, empathy, and thorough care, with many describing excellent appointment experiences and responsive clinical attention. However, reception staff interactions emerge as a persistent problem, with multiple patients describing dismissive, unwelcoming, and impatient communication during phone contact and in-person visits. This disparity is particularly striking, as some patients explicitly note that clinical excellence is undermined by poor reception experience.

Appointment access presents mixed challenges. While some patients report reasonable booking processes and prompt urgent care, others describe lengthy waits, difficulty reaching the practice by phone, and inconsistent application of policies regarding late arrivals. Administrative processes have also drawn criticism, including issues with prescription processing, registration errors, and unclear communication about service decisions. Several patients report feeling their concerns were not taken seriously or that they received inadequate guidance on medication management and side effects.

The practice demonstrates capacity for high-quality care when patients connect with clinical staff, yet systemic issues with reception courtesy, appointment availability, and administrative follow-through appear to create barriers to accessing that care. Some patients have chosen to register elsewhere due to these combined factors, whilst others remain satisfied despite acknowledging the reception experience as a notable weakness.

Excellent!

Thorough first visit at the health centre

I attended the health center for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by the experience. I received a comprehensive assessment and some investigations were carried out during my appointment. I am very appreciative of the care provided.

Dismissed serious symptoms without proper investigation

I felt dismissed when I raised concerns about neck pain, headaches, and progressive nerve discomfort. These symptoms were not taken seriously at the time. Following a change in my care, I was referred for imaging which revealed a significant condition requiring urgent surgical intervention. The surgery resulted in permanent neurological effects and ongoing complications. Had the condition gone undetected for longer, the prognosis would have been considerably worse. I also experienced an adverse interaction between two medications I was prescribed, which resulted in serious consequences including dental damage and an unplanned pregnancy. When I contacted the practice to report this, I was subsequently removed from their patient list. I requested clarification about this decision and was told written explanation would be provided, but despite asking again, no letter was ever sent. I would recommend seeking care elsewhere.

Bad!

Receptionists demand sensitive details before appointments

The medical staff demonstrated limited understanding of my concerns, with symptoms being dismissed without thorough consideration. There is an expectation to disclose personal health information to administrative staff as a prerequisite for scheduling an appointment, even when the matters are of a confidential nature.

Supportive staff who'll book appointments by email

I recently relocated to Hull and joined this practice following a personal recommendation. The clinician I consult with has been excellent and accommodated my request to have my support worker present during an appointment in the early stages of my registration, which we managed while adhering to appropriate safety protocols. Since that initial visit, my interactions have primarily been conducted remotely. The clinician demonstrates empathy and understanding, creating a reassuring environment, particularly when I feel anxious. The reception team have been particularly helpful with email communications. As phone calls are not feasible for me, I rely on email correspondence instead. They efficiently handle appointment bookings and confirmations through email and text messaging, offering flexible options for those who may have difficulty with alternative contact methods. I am grateful for the care provided by the practice thus far.
