Patient Experience Summary

Feedback across this file reveals a practice marked by significant inconsistency in service quality. Reception experience emerges as a dominant concern, with many patients reporting discourteous and unhelpful staff behaviour, lengthy phone wait times, and difficulties securing appointments. Prescription management and communication between the practice and pharmacies present recurring problems, with patients describing lost documents, delayed processing, and organisational failures. Appointment access remains challenging, with waits of one to two weeks commonly reported, and some patients unable to reach the practice by phone. However, several individual staff members receive consistent praise for exceptional professionalism and compassion, suggesting capability exists within the practice to deliver supportive care.

The medical professionals themselves receive mixed assessments. Some doctors are highlighted for their clinical competence and empathetic approach, whilst others are described as rushed or disengaged. A small number of reception staff stand out as genuinely welcoming and supportive, contrasting sharply with broader complaints about the reception experience. This variation indicates that service quality depends significantly on which staff member a patient encounters, rather than reflecting consistent practice-wide standards.

Patients express frustration with the overall organisation and responsiveness of the practice. Issues include conflicting information between different locations, inflexible policies, and apparent gatekeeping of medical consultations based on reception staff assessment rather than clinical need. Several patients report having to seek care elsewhere due to access difficulties, whilst others note the practice is their only local option, leaving them without alternatives despite their concerns.

Frustrated with no help for my sick child

I've encountered incredibly unprofessional behavior and complete unresponsiveness from the medical staff here. Despite my repeated attempts over the past month to secure a consultation, I've been met with nothing but dismissal. My 3-year-old daughter is seriously unwell, yet they continue to claim they have no available appointment slots, showing a total lack of compassion and care.

Frustrating Prescription Pickup Nightmare

Both Butetown and Grangetown surgeries desperately need to improve their communication, as patients receive conflicting information from different branches! I was instructed to collect my prescription at 1:30pm, yet Butetown surgery closes at 1pm, which is my registered location - it's taken me 4 exhausting days to uncover this, with Google providing no help regarding their operating hours! I'm never certain which branch I'm connected to when calling. I'm battling a chest infection and have been attempting to retrieve my antibiotics for 4 days now! The situation is absolutely ridiculous. The reception staff are discourteous and clearly require comprehensive customer service training. To make matters worse, it took me over 5 months to get registered with them due to lacking photo identification, despite being 29 years old, a lifelong Cardiff resident born and bred in Butetown, who has lived across various Cardiff areas and never previously encountered registration difficulties until attempting to register with Cardiff bay surgery. Genuinely, navigating these surgeries has taken a significant toll on my mental well-being.

Rude Receptionist Made Me Feel Awful

The front desk staff consistently displays a dismissive attitude and acts as a gatekeeper to medical consultations based on their subjective assessment of illness severity. Despite feeling extremely ill, I was made to feel like an inconvenience to the medical professionals. To make matters worse, each interaction requires enduring lengthy phone wait times exceeding half an hour. It seems basic human empathy and genuine concern for patients have become increasingly rare in today's healthcare environment.

Glad I Switched After 56 Years

After 56 years with my previous general practitioner, I was apprehensive about switching, but I'm ultimately thrilled with my decision to join this medical practice three months ago. While I've noticed some less favorable reviews, my personal experience has been entirely different. My prescription renewals have been consistently punctual, and although securing a doctor's appointment requires some waiting, that's simply the current reality across healthcare practices. I acknowledge the reception staff might not come across as warm and welcoming, but I wouldn't characterize them as discourteous. In my interactions, they've always been cooperative. I recognize they work in a high-pressure environment with limited time for social niceties. Based on my firsthand experience, I believe this surgery does not merit the low ratings it has received in reviews. The overall quality of care and service has been satisfactory.

Long Waits and Steep Fees Frustrate Patient

Avoid this medical practice at all costs. Phone wait times are excessively long, often stretching beyond 40 minutes. Scheduling a telephone consultation typically requires a wait of two weeks or longer. It's outrageous that as an international student, I'm forced to pay 710 pounds annually for the immigration health surcharge, only to receive such subpar service.

Missed Lunch Hour at the Medical Office

Just stopped by during my lunch break, only to find they're shut for their own midday meal. Now I'll have to return after my workday. My sincerest apologies for disrupting their riveting conversation.

Rude Receptionists Ruined My Doctor Visit

Doctor visits feel hurriedly conducted, which I can somewhat comprehend given their likely packed schedules, but the real problem lies with the front desk personnel. My interactions with them have been predominantly negative, characterized by extreme unhelpfulness and a truly terrible demeanor. Anyone working in a client-oriented position should possess fundamental courtesy and interpersonal skills. Many patients phoning in are likely feeling unwell or experiencing anxiety, and they shouldn't be subjected to such abysmal customer service. It's genuinely appalling.

Prescription Nightmare at My Mom's GP Practice

Avoid this medical practice at all costs. My elderly mother was prescribed a high-dose vitamin D supplement of 25,000 units. When the pharmacy ran out, they needed to substitute the brand. After two frustrating months of attempting to modify the prescription, they arbitrarily changed it to a mere 800 i.u. How can they justify reducing the dosage from 25,000 to 800 i.u.? The receptionist casually claimed it was due to a brand change, which is absurd. This represents a staggering 31-fold reduction in potency. Throughout these two months, I was repeatedly sent to the pharmacy to collect the medication, and each time, the pharmacist reported they had not received the prescription. Countless hours were wasted on phone calls trying to resolve this issue, only to end up with a prescription for 800 units—a dosage I could easily purchase over the counter without any medical intervention. Their incompetence is extraordinary, and they will absolutely squander your time. Without a doubt, this is the most appalling healthcare service in the entire country.

The front desk staff are incredibly discourteous and brusque. It takes approximately a fortnight to secure a single consultation. Absolutely absurd.

Couldn't Reach a Doctor All Day

I recently moved my medical care to this clinic from Saltmead. With several critical, ongoing health concerns pending cardiac surgery, I attempted to reach a physician today. Throughout the day, I persistently tried to connect but encountered constant roadblocks. Each time I waited in the phone queue, the call would divert to a voicemail system that was completely saturated, preventing me from leaving any message. Given these communication failures, I've decided it's necessary to seek healthcare services elsewhere.

Terrible wait times and unhelpful staff

The personnel here display an appalling lack of professionalism, from the front desk staff to the general practitioners. Scheduling an appointment is a nightmare, requiring over a week's wait, and even then, you're restricted to discussing only a single medical concern. If you're experiencing issues with multiple body parts, you'll be forced to book two separate consultations. The doctor's approach is utterly absurd and frustrating. Terrible care and dismissive doctors

I absolutely cannot recommend this medical practice. I've been dealing with ongoing health issues requiring specific medication, and without any consultation or notification, these doctors arbitrarily removed my prescriptions, leaving me in a significantly worse mental and physical state. Only after obtaining external medical confirmation from multiple other physicians about my medication needs did they reluctantly acknowledge my requirements, and even then they immediately attempted to reduce my prescribed dosage. Their apparent primary concern seems to be minimizing patient medication. The receptionists behave as though they possess medical credentials, arrogantly presuming they understand my symptoms better than I do. They are extremely discourteous, and both the reception staff and doctors make visiting this practice a thoroughly unpleasant experience. Their scheduling is absurdly inefficient. When attempting to book an appointment and explaining urgent health concerns like chest pains, they casually inform you that the next available slot is over a week away, offering no alternative solutions or apparent concern for patient wellbeing.

Rude receptionist left dad without medication

My elderly father, recently discharged from hospital three weeks ago with medication changes, found himself without his prescriptions when we tried to collect them this weekend due to an incorrect form. Upon visiting the surgery yesterday, I encountered a dismissive blonde receptionist who showed zero empathy. When I explained our situation, she coldly stated that "the patient must inform us himself" - a statement I find completely unacceptable. This isn't the first time I've experienced her unhelpful attitude; previously, she dismissed a serious script error as mere "human error" without offering any apology. It is standard procedure for hospitals to send discharge notices to GP practices containing critical medication information, and it is not the patient's responsibility, especially for an 84-year-old disabled individual like my father who cannot manage such tasks independently. Her unprofessional conduct and provision of misleading information is outrageous. As a healthcare professional with 30 years of NHS experience, I have zero tolerance for such disrespectful behavior. I will absolutely be escalating this matter given the numerous mistakes and her unacceptable attitude. This employee is a disgraceful representation of the medical practice and her conduct is completely unacceptable.
