Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a practice struggling with significant operational and communication challenges that overshadow positive experiences with individual clinicians. Appointment availability remains a critical issue, with patients reporting difficulty securing slots through both phone and digital channels, lengthy waiting times during morning calls, and frequent cancellations. Reception staff conduct has emerged as a persistent concern, with multiple accounts of discourteous interactions, poor communication, and unhelpfulness when patients attempt to book or seek assistance. Beyond access barriers, patients describe broader service failures including medication management errors, unresponsive follow-up, administrative delays, and inconsistent care quality depending on which doctor is consulted.

Despite these systemic problems, the practice retains pockets of excellence. Several patients praised individual doctors and nursing staff for compassionate, attentive care and professional medical guidance. Some reception team members have been specifically commended for exceptional customer service and genuine support. A small number of patients reported satisfaction with appointment scheduling and overall care quality, suggesting improvements are possible.

The contrast between individual staff excellence and organisational dysfunction indicates the practice's challenges are primarily structural and procedural rather than rooted in individual capability. Patients consistently request better appointment availability, more reliable communication systems, improved reception courtesy, and more consistent care standards across the team. The feedback suggests urgent need for systemic improvements to booking processes, staff training in customer service, and better coordination of patient follow-up and administrative tasks.

Frustrating health service with impossible appointment system

The service's phone lines and app, which force people to call at 8 am for a slim chance of booking an appointment, create significant challenges for those with full-time jobs. Maintaining a consistent medication review and refill has become virtually unattainable. While I recognize the NHS is struggling due to budget constraints, I'm baffled by the restrictive 8 am booking window. My health concerns, which have been overlooked since the pandemic disrupted services, remain unaddressed. The system has been broken for years and shows no signs of improvement. The phone lines are notoriously unreliable, frequently disconnecting mid-call. During one particularly frustrating attempt to address an urgent medical issue, I was left holding for nearly an hour one afternoon. I ultimately walked to the (empty) clinic while still on hold, only to find the reception staff idle and browsing their computer. I am seriously contemplating switching to another GP practice, as my patience has completely worn thin.

Worst medical practice ever disappointing healthcare experience

The service here is abysmal, and frankly quite alarming. The medical staff display a complete lack of empathy - my wife and I have consulted them approximately five times over our two-year registration, and invariably we've had to persistently advocate for ourselves to obtain any meaningful medical advice, guidance, or prescriptions addressing our genuine health issues. It's absolutely unbelievable that this practice continues to function. Moreover, the reception staff are discourteous and obstructive. I am thoroughly disgusted. Updating my initial critique to address the surgery manager's response: it's remarkably telling that six years after my original complaint, you've only now chosen to reply... clearly, I am no longer a patient at this practice, despite residing in close proximity. There are significantly superior NHS healthcare options in the surrounding area.

Endless waiting and frustration with gp service

I've been attempting to contact my general practitioner over the past few days, and each time I'm subjected to endless waiting periods. I've been stuck on hold for what seems like an eternity, with call operators repeatedly telling me I'm "number one in the queue" for hours on end. I'm completely baffled by this frustrating situation and can't understand what's causing such inefficient communication.

Terrible medical service with endless waiting frustrations

Simply unacceptable. If you're unwell and require medical attention, there's a significant chance you'll struggle to obtain help within a reasonable timeframe. Telephone staff will abruptly terminate calls after an hour-long wait, eliminating your chance of assistance for the day. This happened two consecutive days. If it's urgent, you're essentially advised to go to the emergency room. Want to speak with a manager? Expect a promised callback. There's a functional app for tracking communications, at least. However, even if you manage to connect with a doctor, they might attempt to dismiss your concerns, reading from a script about an unrelated condition, forcing you to desperately cling to the call to prevent being brushed off for another day of suffering and helplessness. They might ultimately decide not to provide any update, leaving you in uncertainty. Getting ill means playing a daily lottery and essentially begging for help. Today, I believe I finally received a potential diagnosis to move forward, but I'm still waiting to speak with manager Jack. I hope they informed you of my need to communicate. Substantial improvements are urgently required, and it's clear I'm not alone in experiencing these systematic failures.

Worst medical experience ever disappointing healthcare

Extremely poor medical care. Their standard response is always just to suggest over-the-counter pain medication. The staff lacks genuine professional guidance. Additionally, scheduling an appointment is incredibly challenging, with availability restricted to early morning slots at 8 AM. In my experience, they've been completely ineffective and I absolutely cannot recommend this practice to anyone.

Terrible service leads to delayed pneumonia diagnosis

I consulted a private Vitality GP who advised urgent care from my regular doctor, requiring a same-day appointment. Upon calling the practice, the receptionist coldly refused, stating "NO appointments today" and instructed me to call at 8 AM. The following morning, I called at 8 AM and discovered I was 34th in the queue. Frustrated, I used the DR IQ app (a terrible application) to book an appointment. When the doctor called, they inquired about my need for an appointment. I explained my painful lungs, severe cough, and the urgent referral from my private GP. The Carpenters Practice doctor dismissively responded, "You're fine. I'll prescribe amoxicillin for 5 days. If it doesn't help, come in person." Five days later, my condition dramatically worsened - I was vomiting mucus and food, experiencing brief blackouts from oxygen deprivation, and struggling to secure an appointment despite early morning calls. Eventually, I secured an in-person appointment after the doctor contacted me via the DR IQ app. Reluctantly, I abandoned work and rushed to the consultation. The doctor immediately declared, "This appears to be pneumonia. I cannot hear your lung's lower section. You should have sought treatment weeks ago." They prescribed stronger antibiotics and provided a sputum test kit, directing me to collect it from the front desk and obtain hospital X-ray referrals. Following instructions, I returned at 5:45 PM with my sample, only to be coldly told by the receptionist, "Collection is at 3 PM. Return tomorrow." Exasperated, I left. At the hospital, the technician informed me the GP might take two weeks to review my X-ray results. Utterly frustrated by their incompetence and disregard, I returned to the practice at 2:30 PM, determined to submit my sputum sample. Despite the staff's protests, I firmly left the sample, declaring the doctor had instructed me to do so. I will be reporting this practice to the NHS OMBUDSMAN for negligence and complete lack of patient care.

Frustrating medical office communication nightmare

I experienced multiple missed calls during a short period, and when I was away from my phone and work, I returned the call after 10 minutes. The staff assured me I would definitely receive a callback regarding my ultrasound results. An hour later, knowing from past experience that promised callbacks often don't materialize, I called again and was told the doctor was on the phone but I would receive a call that day. When 6:00 PM arrived and I called back, the representative acknowledged the missed calls. Despite my explaining that I had called twice and been promised a callback, she casually informed me that the staff had already gone home and suggested rebooking a call for the next day. This level of communication and responsiveness is simply unacceptable and reflects extremely poor customer service.

Incompetent doctors destroy patient health care

I've been a patient at this medical practice for years, and I can confidently say they are absolutely the WORST healthcare provider. Patients are constantly shuffled between doctors, and none of them seem to have a clue about proper medical care. When patients report serious illness, they are completely ignored and dismissed. I had to seek private testing to prove my condition, which then revealed what was actually wrong - something an external doctor diagnosed in mere seconds. Even after receiving a positive diagnosis, the practice demonstrated incredible incompetence by prescribing insufficient medication (providing only one antibiotic instead of the standard two-antibiotic treatment). Their ongoing medical negligence is staggering, and you can't help but question the quality of medical education these professionals received. Their approach is not just ineffective, but also shockingly callous. They've repeatedly failed me, and I'm absolutely fed up. I am now preparing to take formal action against them. Anyone considering becoming a patient at this practice should absolutely avoid them at all costs.

Terrible service and complete patient neglect

I am utterly appalled by the abysmal service provided, forcing me to give a 1-star rating only because Google requires it. Their complete disregard for patient care is shocking. My referral has been pending since January, with repeated promises from staff about regular updates that have never materialized. Despite numerous conversations with the practice manager, Val, and various doctors regarding my unresolved issue, absolutely no progress has been made. I've been compelled to make weekly calls, sometimes twice a week, just to obtain any information. When they request time to address my concerns, weeks pass with no communication, and upon follow-up, staff provide inconsistent and contradictory explanations. Each interaction requires me to recount my entire situation because the staff appear entirely incapable of comprehending or reviewing patient notes. The emotional and time-related toll this has taken on me is immense. I strongly advise anyone to steer clear of this medical practice at all costs.

Terrible clinic with unhelpful uti treatment

I've been struggling with recurring UTIs for years, and this clinic has been utterly disappointing. The first time I reached out, I was asked to provide a urine sample. They handed me 1 tube and 1 small container with zero clear guidance. I endured 3 agonizing days of worsening symptoms before hearing back. When they finally contacted me, it was to admit they had mislabelled the container, requiring me to return. By then, my symptoms were so severe that I couldn't wait another 3 days for treatment, so I obtained antibiotics from another source. During my second UTI episode, I requested an antibiotic prescription for recurrent UTIs. Again, they insisted I come in for a urine sample. I complied, but they never followed up. Predictably, I knew I couldn't wait for their response, so I secured antibiotics elsewhere. Fortunately, as they never even returned my call. It's outrageous that in today's healthcare landscape, women must resort to private medical services for something as common as urinary tract infections. Picture repeating this exhausting process every quarter: calling at 8am, submitting a urine sample, being confined at home due to constant urination, and desperately hoping for antibiotics. Some pharmacies are ridiculously restrictive, requiring extremely specific criteria. You understand your symptoms and the necessary treatment, yet the NHS keeps the medication frustratingly out of reach. Absolutely unacceptable.

Utterly frustrating! The service is consistently subpar, with numerous new employees who seem unprofessional and discourteous.
