Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reflects a practice experiencing significant operational challenges, particularly around appointment access and booking experience. Patients report persistent difficulty securing appointments, with many describing phone system issues including long waits and disconnections, alongside reception staff described as dismissive or unhelpful during booking interactions. Several patients note that when appointments prove unavailable, they are directed to alternative services rather than offered practice slots. This pattern has intensified following recent management changes, with long-standing patients observing a marked decline in service standards compared to previous years.

Where clinical care is accessed, experiences are mixed. Some patients report clinicians who demonstrate genuine listening skills and professional approach, whilst others describe communication that feels dismissive or lacking in adequate explanation. Concerns have been raised about medication management, including unexpected discontinuation of repeat prescriptions and delays in accessing necessary care. Patients also mention challenges with follow-up arrangements and test result communication.

Positive feedback highlights the practice's digital services, convenient location, supportive nursing staff, and instances of responsive care. However, these strengths are substantially overshadowed by widespread concerns about appointment availability, phone system functionality, reception experience, and what patients perceive as inadequate resourcing to meet patient demand. The practice environment has also been noted as requiring improvement in maintenance standards.

Phone queue left me waiting then disconnected

I waited on hold for an extended period before the call disconnected. This represents a disappointing experience and is part of a pattern I have noticed. Following the recent change in management, the quality of service has declined significantly. I feel I would receive better care elsewhere.

Phone queue system needs urgent improvement

The telephone system is problematic. I waited on hold for an extended period, progressed through the queue, and the call disconnected unexpectedly. This was extremely frustrating. Since the practice changed management, the overall experience has noticeably deteriorated. Just when it seems things cannot get worse, the service declines further.

Can't get appointments at this surgery

This practice was once excellent and provided friendly, efficient care. Unfortunately, the experience has deteriorated significantly, particularly regarding appointment availability. A previous clinician was outstanding, but the current standard of service has declined considerably.

Couldn't get appointment when really needed one

Absolutely devastating experience there. I was unwell and emotional, and couldn't secure an appointment despite trying. How can all the available slots disappear so quickly? It's concerning how difficult access to care can be, especially for those managing their wellbeing. The service quality is really troubling. I ended up attending a walk-in clinic after waiting several hours, which felt quite poor overall.

Long phone queues make booking difficult

I've been waiting on hold for a considerable amount of time while trying to schedule an appointment for my child during my break from work. Despite being told I'm first in the queue, my position hasn't progressed since I initially called. This experience was quite frustrating.

Early morning queuing system needs rethinking

The only method to secure an appointment appears to be arriving early in the morning regardless of weather conditions, which seems particularly challenging for older or unwell patients. The waiting area frequently appears vacant, yet appointment slots remain difficult to obtain. There have been delays in receiving necessary documentation, with extended waiting periods mentioned. The practice's appointment system and availability appear to require significant improvement.

Couldn't get through on the phone queue

If I could give zero stars I would. I attempted to book an appointment for three consecutive days at 8 o'clock sharp, but was unable to secure one. On one occasion, despite being fifth in the queue, I still left without managing to arrange an appointment. It felt as though the practice showed little concern for my situation.

Getting appointments here feels nearly impossible

I have been a patient at this practice for many years. The service was excellent previously, but standards appear to have declined following recent management changes. I have found interactions with staff to be unhelpful and dismissive at times, and I have received information that later proved to be inaccurate. Obtaining appointments has become increasingly difficult, and I would hesitate to recommend this practice to others. My family member with respiratory conditions and allergies experienced a significant delay in receiving necessary medication, as the practice indicated that a diagnostic test was required first but was unable to offer timely appointments for this test. It took numerous phone calls to eventually obtain the required medication, and we continue to wait for the diagnostic appointment. I feel the practice is not functioning as it should, and based on other feedback I have seen, I am concerned about the quality of care being provided to patients.

Struggling to book appointments at this practice

This practice had a good reputation when we first registered, but the standard has declined significantly. Obtaining an appointment has become extremely difficult, and I've been unable to secure one for an extended period. The practice requires an in-person consultation before issuing certain documentation, yet appointments remain unavailable. This situation is deeply frustrating.

Long queues and cancelled appointments frustrate patients

Called at exactly 8 when the surgery opened. I was number 15 in the queue!! When I eventually got through to reception I was informed there were no available appointments!! I was suggested to attend the walk-in centre instead!! This practice was once excellent until it became part of a larger partnership, and since then standards have noticeably declined. It's disappointing because when you do manage to see a clinician they are very competent BUT if you cannot secure an appointment what is the purpose. The walk-in centre would not have been suitable for my needs so I will attempt again tomorrow but I'm not optimistic it will be any different! I cannot believe things have become even more problematic. My daughter's last three respiratory reviews have been cancelled. She had a review scheduled for this week but the respiratory nurse telephoned and cancelled once more! She then offered to conduct the review by telephone instead! I have never encountered anything quite so inappropriate. She did not appear to have adequate knowledge as she was insisting my daughter use a particular device. My daughter explained this would not be compatible with her current preventative medication. Why does she lack this basic knowledge? I previously worked in the NHS and was required to have comprehensive knowledge of my area of practice. My daughter was diagnosed with a chronic respiratory condition many years ago and it has significantly impacted her quality of life. She never leaves home without her emergency inhaler, and if she has forgotten it we must return immediately. Previously she was prescribed two emergency inhalers monthly. Without any explanation this was reduced to one monthly! The respiratory nurse has advised she should discontinue her emergency inhaler as research suggests it may have cardiac effects. Given that heart conditions are prevalent in her family history this has caused her considerable anxiety. She asked 'so if you are removing me from this inhaler what do I do during a respiratory attack?' The nurse responded that she would need to attend hospital for a stronger dose of the medication!! Respiratory emergencies result in multiple deaths daily so now they are suggesting patients attend hospital for potentially lengthy waits as others have mentioned there could be increased fatalities! My daughter now faces additional pressure on the NHS and must undergo cardiac assessment. This is deeply concerning. A respiratory attack is extremely frightening for the person and those around them but it could readily be managed at home with the emergency inhaler.

Communication problems made appointments impossible

Communication difficulties experienced Availability of appointments is problematic Service quality has been disappointing Long-standing medication on repeat prescription was unexpectedly discontinued without adequate explanation, with the decision attributed to clinical discretion. This was particularly concerning given the nature of the medication and that it had been prescribed as part of regular ongoing care reviews. The situation was frustrating and left me with unanswered questions.

Long phone queues, no appointments available

I felt that this practice did not prioritise patient care. When I called at the start of the day, I was seventh in the queue, and was informed that all appointments were fully booked. I mentioned that I had experienced comparable symptoms previously around the Christmas period, but had similarly been unable to secure an appointment at that time, which resulted in a hospital admission lasting several weeks where a blood clot was identified. I had the impression that the practice lacked concern for patient welfare, and I questioned whether they possessed adequate resources to operate effectively.

Receptionists dismiss concerns at every turn

This practice has experienced a significant decline since becoming part of a larger healthcare group. The front desk staff come across as dismissive and unhelpful, whether you're calling or visiting in person. It would seem that those working there might benefit from seeking alternative employment. The overall quality of care appears to have diminished considerably, and I am actively seeking to register elsewhere. My recommendation to prospective patients would be to carefully consider whether this practice meets your healthcare needs before joining.

Reception suggests sit and wait clinic alternative

This surgery has declined since the previous ownership changed hands. If appointments are unavailable, reception staff may suggest attending the local walk-in clinic instead. On a recent visit there, the wait time was considerably lengthy to be seen by a healthcare professional. The area would benefit from additional medical practitioners, dental services, clinics and emergency facilities. The local population has grown significantly.

Appointments gone before the queue clears

I was near the front of the queue when I called the surgery at opening time to arrange a doctor's appointment, but by the time my call was answered just a few minutes later, all the available slots for that day had already been taken. It seems there may be very limited appointment availability each day.

Slow results and dirty waiting rooms disappointed

I attended for a routine blood test at this practice. Ten days have now passed and I am still awaiting my results. In my previous experience abroad, results were returned within a matter of hours. Additionally, I found the waiting area to be in poor condition, with the carpets appearing worn and the cleanliness standards falling short of what I would expect. I was disappointed by the overall standard of the facility and feel this reflects poorly on how public healthcare resources are being managed.

Reception staff were dismissive and unhelpful

If I could give a lower rating I would. The reception team often came across as curt and dismissive during my interactions, with only a few exceptions. The clinical staff did not communicate clearly about what was needed from me and seemed generally unhelpful, appearing to lack both time and consideration for patient care. As a practice funded by public resources, the level of service provided to patients and taxpayers falls short of what should be expected.
