Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reflects a mixed experience with significant variation in patient satisfaction. Appointment access remains a persistent challenge, with many patients reporting difficulties securing timely slots through the 8am calling system, extended waiting periods extending weeks or months, and limited availability of in-person consultations. Reception experience is inconsistent, with some patients praising staff courtesy and responsiveness while others describe discourteous interactions and poor communication. Medical care quality divides opinion: several patients commend doctors for compassionate, thorough diagnosis and attentive care, whilst others report lack of empathy, inconsistent treatment approaches, and insufficient follow-up on test results and referrals.

Communication failures emerge as a recurring concern, including delayed or missing test results, absent follow-up contact, and gaps in prescription management. Some patients attribute booking and access difficulties to broader NHS resource constraints rather than practice-specific issues. Continuity of care is affected by patients encountering different physicians, requiring repeated explanations of medical history. Positive feedback highlights responsive staff, welcoming environment, and professional medical attention, particularly from specific practitioners.

The practice shows capability in managing complex health conditions and providing reassurance when patients connect with engaged clinicians. However, systemic issues around appointment availability, reception consistency, and care coordination require attention to improve overall patient confidence in the service.

Great!

Longtime patient gives honest and heartfelt review

I've been a patient at this medical practice since childhood, spanning three decades, and the physicians here are exceptionally warm and truly appear invested in patients' health. My sole criticism is the lengthy wait periods - there are instances where I've been seated in the waiting area for up to an hour before being summoned for my appointment. Despite this minor drawback, the overall quality of care remains excellent.

Caring staff but tough to get appointments

I've consistently received excellent medical attention from the physicians and nursing personnel, with no issues regarding the administrative team. The sole challenge lies in scheduling appointments, which stems from insufficient financial resources.

Great!

Compassionate care with occasional scheduling challenges

Living with a chronic health issue for around 5 years, which continues to be managed by a doctor who initially started as a recently graduated general practitioner. Scheduling appointments has become challenging, with typical wait times extending to 4 weeks or more, even for consultations over the phone. Securing a slot with a nurse tends to be more straightforward, and with the exception of one physician, I've found the medical staff to be caring and competent. An added convenience is having the pharmacy located within the same premises as the GP practice.

Exceptional care for family's health needs always

Truly exceptional diagnosis and care whenever I've sought help for myself or my kids. Securing appointments has always been smooth and convenient. Only minor challenges arise with scheduling regular check-ups. The front desk team is friendly and handles their responsibilities with proficiency.

Best local surgery with understanding staff

Most of the time, scheduling an appointment works out for me. Finding suitable slots has always been challenging due to my work constraints, requiring early or late timings. The staff here are significantly more supportive compared to other practices (at my previous clinic, Rydings Hall, I even had to file a formal complaint against a staff member who almost jeopardized my employment!). The doctors are personable and make a genuine effort to maintain their schedule. They've consistently addressed every medical issue I've raised, which I truly appreciate. I haven't experienced more difficulties with this practice than with any other healthcare provider. It seems appointment booking and time management challenges are universal across medical practices, so I'm not particularly critical. On balance, I consider them the top medical practice in this area.

Frustrating wait times make healthcare impossible

Getting an appointment seems challenging. They suggested a slot for September 9th, which is quite far off. Previously, when I tried the walk-in approach, I ended up spending three exhausting hours in the waiting room before seeing a physician.

Worst medical experience of my entire life

The surgical experience was disastrous. Steer clear of this facility, as their staff ranks among the most incompetent professionals I've ever encountered. Despite having a prescription for eye drops since 2016, I was inexplicably left in the dark until August 2018, when they finally bothered to inform me. I'm reluctantly awarding 1 star solely to submit this review - and even that feels overly generous.

Lifesaving care despite nhs challenges and long shifts

After reading some negative reviews, I felt compelled to share my personal experience. The new appointment system is significantly improved, with morning and evening standard slots being much more convenient for those working outside Brighouse. If you need same-day care, there's a "sit & wait" option at the end of morning and afternoon sessions, ensuring you'll be seen. It's hard to ask for more than that. Early morning appointments tend to run late; I arrived at 6:50 for my 7:00 slot, and the doctor didn't arrive until 7:15. During our conversation, he shared that he would work until 7:30 that night and only get a half-hour break if he's fortunate. This translates to roughly an 11-hour shift with approximately 10 minutes per appointment, totaling around 60 patients in a single day. Such a workload seems unsustainable for anyone. As others have noted, the issue appears more systemic within the NHS rather than specific to this practice. Dr. Khan was particularly exceptional. I went in with week-long pains, expecting antibiotics, but he thoroughly assessed me, arranged a blood test for the next morning, and had me in hospital that afternoon. It turned out my liver wasn't functioning correctly and could have been seriously dangerous if not caught early. Similarly, when my husband had a painful, growing cyst, I recommended Dr. Khan. He promptly arranged urgent treatment at The Spire @ Elland within days. In my view, this practice does an admirable job within the constraints of an underfunded and overstretched NHS.

Compassionate care despite nhs funding challenges

Overall, my interactions have been satisfactory, particularly after the modifications to the scheduling process in 2018. From my perspective, any challenges patients encounter stem from broader systemic underfunding of the National Health Service, rather than specific issues with this medical practice.

Terrible service when you're feeling sick

On January 18th, I called to schedule a consultation, having been absent from work due to persistent illness with no signs of improvement. The receptionist, displaying a notable lack of engagement, informed me that the earliest available slots were January 31st or February 9th. This delay is utterly unacceptable, raising serious concerns about potential health complications if my condition worsens or requires prescription intervention. The practice urgently needs to address its appointment scheduling system and provide comprehensive customer service and empathy training to its front desk personnel, as patients struggling with illness should not be met with such indifference.

Terrible doctor ruins otherwise good medical practice

Among the medical professionals I encounter, there's one particular physician whose demeanor is so condescending and disrespectful that many patients share my sentiment. His arrogance is widely recognized, and despite widespread criticism, it seems no action will be taken. Aside from this individual, the practice offers quality healthcare, but my interactions with this specific doctor are consistently infuriating and raise my blood pressure.

Terrible service leaves patient frustrated and helpless

New booking system makes scheduling an appointment impossible for a whole week. They tell me to just show up at 9 or 11, but that's completely impractical. I have a daughter in nursery from 9 am to 12 pm, and I don't have a car. Chef Lane has effectively excluded me from accessing their services by implementing this ridiculous new system.

Frustrating healthcare experience with poor communication

Consistently encountering different physicians means repeatedly explaining my medical history. Despite assurances of being notified about test results, communication failed completely. Test outcomes vanished, and follow-up examinations were overlooked despite my persistent inquiries. An urgent hospital communication remained inaccessible until administrative staff processed their emails later. The entire healthcare experience feels like an impersonal assembly line where medical professionals only engage when forcefully prompted. This seems symptomatic of broader systemic issues within the NHS, not just limited to this specific practice. My confidence in the healthcare system has been utterly eroded.

Poor!

Frustrating phone service with endless waiting times

Attempting to schedule a phone consultation is practically impossible, as all calls are funneled through a single, perpetually busy telephone line. In the rare event you actually connect, the earliest appointment slots are pushed out beyond a month's wait. The system should implement a priority booking mechanism for those struggling to make initial contact.
