Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a deeply divided patient experience, with appointment access and reception courtesy emerging as the most significant concerns. Patients consistently report extreme difficulty scheduling consultations, with many describing phone lines as unresponsive and booking systems as either unavailable or rapidly exhausted within minutes of opening. Extended waiting periods—both on phone lines and for appointment availability—feature prominently across reviews, with some patients waiting weeks for non-urgent care. Reception staff interactions are frequently cited as problematic, with patients describing discourteous, dismissive, or unhelpful attitudes that compound access difficulties.

In contrast, medical professionals receive notably positive feedback for their expertise, compassion, and attentiveness. Doctors and nurses are regularly praised for demonstrating care, taking time to explain procedures, and providing reassuring support. Several patients highlight specific practitioners as exceptional. However, this positive clinical experience is substantially undermined by the barriers to accessing care and the reception experience that precedes it.

A smaller number of patients report satisfactory experiences overall, noting efficient service and supportive staff across all levels. These reviews suggest the practice can deliver good care when access is achieved, but systemic issues with appointment availability and phone responsiveness create significant frustration for a substantial portion of the patient population. The contrast between clinical quality and access difficulties represents the core tension in patient feedback.

Terrible medical practice with unhelpful staff

Utterly repulsive medical practice that has been driving me crazy all week long. Every single time I call, they're completely booked. I dialed precisely at 8:30 AM, and by the time I got through at 8:55, all appointments had vanished. They simply told me to try another day, seemingly oblivious to the fact that people cannot afford to wait weeks for medical attention. This is genuinely one of the most terrible healthcare providers around. If you're relocating to this area, steer clear of this practice. Additionally, the reception staff are incredibly discourteous and condescending, making the entire experience even more unbearable.

Terrible wait times ruin my medical experience

Every few months when I visit this medical practice, I consistently experience significant delays. Each appointment runs 30-40 minutes behind schedule, which is completely unacceptable. The entire operation seems unprofessional and poorly managed.

Exceptional care from a compassionate doctor

I reached out to the receptionist late in the day, just before they were about to close, and discussed an infection following my wisdom teeth extraction. Initially, I was advised to consult a dentist, so I inquired if a doctor might call me back, given that the hospital couldn't see me since it was past 48 hours post-surgery. Dr. Blakemore contacted me near closing time and swiftly processed my prescription for the infection, with the medication being ready in just five minutes. This isn't the first time Dr. Blakemore has demonstrated exceptional care, and I'm incredibly grateful for her dedication. She truly is an outstanding professional and a tremendous asset to Clarance Medical Centre.

Terrible service and endless waiting times

This establishment is completely ridiculous. What's the purpose of scheduling an appointment if you're still going to be waiting around for nearly an hour? They seriously need to get their act together and improve their time management.

Dangerous surgery fails patients and risks children's lives

Completely distraught about my mental health crisis - my medication has depleted and I'm unable to secure a medical consultation for a fortnight! They're refusing to provide my essential tablets without a review! I had to fight aggressively just to get a future appointment. Moreover, nurse Lisa is permanently banned from interacting with my children after her catastrophic negligence. During Nancy's 8-week examination, she entirely missed a glaringly obvious heart murmur that could have been fatal! Nancy actually had a substantial cardiac defect which this nurse completely overlooked. As if that wasn't horrifying enough, she then prescribed an dangerously elevated furosemide dosage that would have resulted in an overdose had we not caught her error. This is absolutely the most incompetent medical practice imaginable - patients should steer clear at all costs!!

Called this morning, 22nd of November. Rang me back within 5 minutes at 8:30am, just in time for my 9am doctor's appointment. Seen by Amilia, the nurse, who was absolutely wonderful. Thank you for taking such great care of me...

Terrible clinic with one exceptional nurse saving grace

Steer clear of this medical facility if you value your health! The front desk staff treat patients like nuisances, and securing an appointment is a nightmare. Even if you manage to get in, the physicians are equally dismissive. The sole bright spot is nurse Lisa, who truly embodies compassionate care and goes above and beyond to assist patients. The rest of the staff should be replaced with professionals who are genuinely committed to healthcare and patient support.

Frustrating and impossible medical appointment booking nightmare

The medical staff at Clarence are becoming increasingly frustrating. Between 8:15 and 8:20, my call abruptly disconnects. Following their instructions, I call back at 8:30, and by 8:35 they inform me that all appointments for today are gone. Moreover, they claim they can only schedule same-day appointments, which makes no sense. How is it possible that they're completely booked within just 5 minutes when their office remains open until 6:30 pm?

Compassionate care for my aging parents

I frequently manage medical appointments for my aging parents, and I can confidently say they have consistently been outstanding and incredibly supportive. Their call-back service is reliable, and they always follow up promptly and address any concerns. As a District Nurse working in another region, I have extensive experience with medical practices, and this surgery stands out in terms of quality care.

Terrible customer service and impossible to schedule

Attempting to schedule an appointment is a nightmare with this place. Every time I call, even as early as 8:30, they constantly claim they have 30 people waiting. It's absolutely absurd. How am I supposed to book a slot when they can't even pick up the phone or manage their communication effectively?

Amazing healthcare with quick and caring service

Throughout the past four weeks, I've had two medical consultations, both handled with remarkable efficiency. When I called at 8:30 AM, I requested a callback, which arrived precisely 15 minutes later. On both occasions, I was seen the same day by a wonderful nurse named Lisa. She promptly prescribed my medications, coordinated a scan, and scheduled an endoscopy. My scan was completed within a week, and the endoscopy is upcoming. The service was truly exceptional, with incredibly friendly personnel. As this was my inaugural experience receiving treatment at this facility, I am thoroughly impressed and very satisfied with the entire process.

Terrible service and lack of communication at madryn

The reception staff displayed extremely poor customer service, being sarcastic when they mistakenly cancelled our appointment without any notification. Our 4-month-old baby wasn't feeling well, so we visited the day before her scheduled vaccination to request a health check and potentially reschedule. The GP at that time assured us she was fine to receive her injection the following day. We then came in today - during horrendous weather conditions - carrying our sick infant, only to discover the appointment had been cancelled without any communication. After I voiced my complaint, they brought a GP to administer the vaccination, who then claimed her fever was too high, despite it being lower than the previous day's temperature. I've been with Madryn House for 32 years without prior issues, but in just 4 months with my baby, we've experienced multiple problematic situations.

Decades of loyalty crushed by poor medical care

It breaks my heart to pen this review - having been a patient at the original Clarence House, and now Clarence Medical since my birth over seven decades ago. Getting an appointment with an actual GP has become nearly impossible - let alone seeing your own physician. Dr Simon Dobson has consistently been exceptional - a thoughtful, expert and empathetic doctor who truly goes the extra mile - but securing an appointment with him or any other GP seems insurmountable. After enduring the 08:30 'phone lottery' and waiting to speak with a receptionist, you frequently encounter discourteous, irritable staff who appear utterly inconvenienced by your presence. Despite explaining my need to see a doctor about back and leg injuries sustained from falling through the attic hatch, I was told I could only consult a nurse. The interaction involved no proper physical examination - merely listening to my chest to confirm lung clarity, and then being advised to take pain medication. A week later - experiencing worsening chest pain and unable to sleep comfortably, I again requested to see a GP… once more I was refused and directed to the nurse. Again, no examination took place - and I was simply prescribed something to aid my sleep. After three weeks, I'm left with damaged ribs, intense chest pain and a left knee still painful and swollen - with a distinct sense that Clarence Medical no longer cares about a patient who has been with them since 1950. I've transferred to another practice … I've reached my limit.
