Receptionists unhelpful, waited weeks for callback

I have been a patient at this practice for over 40 years and today's experience was particularly frustrating. I have been unwell and off work for over a week, so I called the practice as one does to request a sick note. When I finally got through, I asked to speak with a doctor, but the receptionist was unhelpful. I was then transferred to another receptionist who was quite rude. When I asked to speak with my doctor, I was told there would be a two-week wait, or alternatively a one-week wait to see a different doctor. I was eventually told a doctor would call me back, but this call never came. I cannot even recall my doctor's name, it has been so long since I have seen them. The waiting times are extraordinary – two weeks just for a doctor to return a phone call seems unreasonable. More recently, I called again as I needed a work note due to discomfort caused by supplied footwear that is causing me pain. I was informed it could take up to five weeks for a response and three weeks to see my doctor. All I need is a simple work note so I can wear more suitable footwear instead of what has been provided. This is not an unreasonable request, and I am concerned about the impact this is having on my health.

Repeated delays left without essential medication

I submitted a request for a repeat prescription to the practice a fortnight ago for my regular medication. Four days later, I received a text message indicating that a clinician wished to speak with me before dispensing the medication, with a consultation scheduled for a week ahead. This morning, I was notified via text that the clinician was unwell and my appointment has been rescheduled for the following week, meaning a further seven-day delay. As a result, I currently find myself without my regular medications. I have attempted to contact the surgery multiple times over the past half hour to request that another available clinician review and authorise my prescription, but I continue to reach an automated message stating that the lines are too busy to take my call. I am concerned about managing my health during this extended gap in my medication supply. The practice's operational processes appear to require significant review and improvement.

Reception staff made assumptions about my needs

I have regretted switching to this practice. While I am currently expecting, I have found that there appears to be a lack of coordination between the maternity team and the surgery, despite them being based at the same location. When I requested to speak with a clinician, a receptionist responded in a manner I found unhelpful and made suggestions about medication rather than facilitating my request. Additionally, I felt that information was not accurately recorded during this interaction, as it seemed the receptionist was attempting to make clinical decisions on my behalf rather than simply taking down my concerns.

Waited half an hour for missing blood test request

I wish I could give a lower rating! I simply don't understand how this medical system works. I attended an appointment where I was advised to undergo some blood tests. When I went in for the procedure today, after waiting for a considerable time, I was informed that no tests had been arranged for me. This situation is quite concerning and frustrating. I am very let down by this experience.

Reception staff were dismissive and rude

The reception team's manner of communication left much to be desired, as they came across as dismissive and disrespectful. While the clinical staff provided good care, the poor attitude displayed by those at the front desk has made me consider switching to a different practice. I would not be comfortable subjecting my partner to being treated in that way.

Reception cancelled appointment without explanation

I would suggest considering alternative healthcare providers if possible. During a recent visit, my wife attended for a blood test that had been arranged by reception staff in relation to her ongoing health condition. However, the appointment was cancelled by clinical staff with minimal notice and explanation, citing time constraints. The manner in which this was handled felt dismissive and lacked professionalism. I have concerns about whether all patients receive equal consideration and respect at this practice.

Two of the clinicians at this practice are the reason for the positive rating. There is a sense that a previous staff member would have been a valuable retention. The reception and administrative teams work diligently in what appears to be a demanding environment. This practice has provided care to my family over many years through various periods of operation. Negative reviews may not represent the typical experience at this busy Oxford practice.
