Attempting to secure a booking via their telephone service at 8:30 is an exercise in futility, with only a handful of slots available for the upcoming 48-hour period. I've made two unsuccessful attempts to schedule an appointment. The system is deeply frustrating and ineffective.

The demeanor of some reception staff when answering calls is quite unacceptable; they often appear very curt and can be perceived as exceedingly discourteous, especially when callers may be discussing delicate matters. I tend to respond to others in the same manner they treat me, and it seems that additional training for specific team members who handle phone inquiries is necessary at this establishment. It’s perplexing how some individuals manage to communicate with such a lack of respect, considering that anyone else would likely face immediate consequences for similar behavior. One should not feel resentment or anxiety about reaching out to their local GP practice, yet that's how I genuinely feel.

Eh? Surely this isn’t right.

I am 84 & housebound. Twice recently I got my son to take me to GP surgery by car, 5 mins away for an examination. I have injections every 3 months from a nurse who visits my house. GP has told me as I have made it into surgery twice no more home visits will be possible. Is this right? Allowed under NHS rules.

Greedy doctors exploiting vulnerable patients for profit

Demanded £50 for completing a crucial medical exemption form for a senior patient suffering from dementia. Absolutely shameful. I can picture their practice meetings resembling a grim, antiquated scene of greed, with staff huddled around a flickering candle, gleefully plotting how to squeeze money from their most vulnerable and aged patients.

Delayed GP Appointment Forces Patient to Leave

I scheduled an appointment 20 days ahead to obtain a letter from my general practitioner for a mammogram. The available slot was at 4:10 pm, but since I needed to start work at 5 pm, I had to wait until 4:40 to see the GP. Ultimately, I had no choice but to leave for work. My medical records now note that "patient walked out." There wasn't even a phone call from the GP regarding the delay, which reflects a lack of respect for my scheduled time.

It might just be my perspective, but I have consistently found every member of the staff—from those at the reception to the general practitioners—approachable, pleasant, and supportive. Certainly, there may be instances where you find yourself waiting on hold for an appointment. Additionally, securing a face-to-face consultation that isn't urgent could prove more challenging than anticipated. When considering the vast number of patients registered against the medical personnel available, some delays are inevitable; this is particularly true if one prefers to consult with a specific GP, Nurse Practitioner, or Healthcare Assistant. However, in moments when urgency matters and you need immediate attention from someone qualified, I’ve experienced remarkable dedication from initial contact with receptionists through to healthcare professionals. They go above and beyond to assist you in resolving your issues promptly. This has been my personal experience here which is why I give them a five-star rating without hesitation.

I was deeply frustrated when my young granddaughter suffered a painful nail injury with a metal object at her primary school. The school personnel couldn't extract the object and merely advised me to seek medical attention. When I contacted the Medical Centre's reception, they curtly directed me to the A&E department at North Tees, which wasn't helpful given my unfamiliarity with the local area. What troubled me most was the complete absence of compassion for a distressed 9-year-old experiencing significant discomfort. No medical professionals seemed genuinely concerned about her situation. The entire experience was incredibly disheartening and left me feeling let down by the healthcare system's apparent indifference.

A companion dropped by to assist me in securing a medical consultation (with a potential tonsillitis diagnosis). He mentioned that the front desk staff were incredibly kind and accommodating, and they promptly arranged for the on-call physician to contact me, which happened remarkably fast. The doctor thoroughly discussed my symptoms over the phone and was exceptionally supportive, quickly processing my prescription. Given all the challenges and strain experienced during the past two years of the COVID pandemic, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the entire team. A grateful patient, this occurred on the afternoon of June 7th, 2022.
