Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reflects a mixed experience across the practice, with notable strengths in emergency dental care provision and significant challenges in routine appointment access and administrative responsiveness. Emergency and out-of-hours services consistently receive praise for rapid response times, clinical expertise, and compassionate care, with patients particularly appreciating the skill and reassurance provided during urgent dental procedures. However, routine access presents substantial difficulties, with patients reporting prolonged telephone wait times, limited appointment availability, delayed callback responses, and reception staff occasionally displaying dismissive or discourteous behaviour during booking attempts.

Clinical care quality varies considerably. When appointments are secured, many patients report positive experiences with thorough examinations, clear communication, and pain-free procedures. Several patients have noted improvement in reception courtesy over time, with individual staff members receiving specific recognition for exceptional helpfulness. Conversely, some patients describe dismissive clinician interactions, incomplete clinical assessments, and inadequate pain management, with a small number reporting concerns about diagnostic accuracy and treatment completeness.

Administrative and organisational challenges emerge as a persistent theme, including difficulty obtaining clinical records, vague responses to follow-up queries, and unclear communication about service availability. While the practice demonstrates genuine strengths in emergency responsiveness and clinical expertise during acute presentations, systemic improvements in appointment accessibility, administrative efficiency, and consistency of professional courtesy would enhance overall patient experience and confidence in the service.

Quick appointment booking and fast service

Excellent experience. I was able to secure an appointment very quickly, and the wait time from arrival to being seen was impressively short. The clinical team efficiently addressed my concerns and I was finished in no time at all. Very grateful for the prompt service.

Reception staff made me feel genuinely welcomed

Always helpful. The reception team is lovely - courteous and friendly. The administrative staff always remember my voice on the phone and ask about my family, and the clinical team are very patient. I was seen even though I was running a bit late - I appreciated that the practice accommodated this despite being busy that day. The clinical staff have been fantastic and provided excellent care.

Reception staff were dismissive and unhelpful

The dental support staff displayed a dismissive attitude and appeared unwilling to engage when I was trying to explain my concerns. They declined to provide contact information that was visibly displayed, instead suggesting I return at a time when different staff members would be available.

Reception team were genuinely helpful and polite

I felt compelled to leave positive feedback for this practice as I believe the online rating doesn't adequately represent the quality of care provided by the team to the local community. Throughout my time as a patient, I've had multiple interactions with the staff, and I can genuinely say the front desk personnel have consistently demonstrated courtesy, empathy and a willingness to assist. The clinical staff have also shown considerable development over time, and I've found their responses to my enquiries to be informative and educational.

Quick response eased my dental anxiety

I was referred here for NHS emergency dental treatment and had considerable anxiety about visiting the dentist. However, the staff members were absolutely brilliant and demonstrated genuine care throughout my visit. They took time to slowly and clearly explain everything that would happen, the treatment itself was quick, precise and completely pain-free. The team also responded promptly to my referral. Don't be discouraged by the lower rating as the service I received was excellent!

Practice manager still hasn't returned call after days

I felt the standard of care was extremely poor when I previously attended the practice. However, I have since reconsidered this view. I have now been waiting several days for a manager to contact me regarding a resolution to my concerns. Unfortunately, I have not yet received this call, and this is only one of several issues I experienced. I had a telephone consultation during which the clinician asked abruptly what my problem was. I explained that there should be a referral letter from the emergency department outlining my long-standing back condition. The pain has been severe enough at times to require strong pain relief medication simply to manage daily activities. The clinician appeared unaware of my extensive history of repeat prescriptions for pain management and promptly declined my request for an imaging scan. This had been recommended by the emergency department clinician who had assessed me. Their interpretation of the referral suggested I should pursue physiotherapy first, with imaging only if my condition did not improve. I attempted to explain that I had already completed numerous physiotherapy sessions in the past, but the clinician repeatedly interrupted me, reiterating what the emergency department had recommended. I reminded the clinician that my condition has been long-standing for many years. At this point, the clinician informed me they would be ending the consultation. I was deeply frustrated by the clinician's approach and manner of communication, which I found unhelpful and difficult to understand. My initial reaction was one of significant concern about the quality of care provided.

Booking appointments remains frustratingly difficult here

Booking appointments continues to be a significant challenge. During a recent attempt to schedule a visit, I was positioned early in the queue but was subsequently moved much further back without explanation. The reception team appeared unhelpful when I tried to arrange an appointment through the standard process. It seems the practice would benefit from additional staffing resources or another healthcare provider to help manage the demand.

Reception staff now genuinely friendly and helpful

I must say I'm becoming increasingly impressed with this practice. I used to find the reception staff to be unwelcoming, dismissive and indifferent, and it was also extremely difficult to reach anyone by telephone. However, this has genuinely improved recently. There's a particularly pleasant member of the reception team who is consistently friendly, courteous and cheerful, and genuinely appears to take a sincere interest in helping patients.

Long phone wait for delayed appointment access

Extended wait times are required just to arrange an appointment with the doctor via telephone. Upon booking, you are informed that a callback will occur approximately two weeks later. In that timeframe, circumstances could change significantly. Meanwhile, continued financial contributions remain expected.

Couldn't get appointments when needed

I found the service to be disappointing as I was unable to secure appointments at times that suited my needs. The clinical staff did not meet my expectations. The administrative team were unhelpful when I made a straightforward request for documentation to verify my son's registration at the practice. I asked if they could simply print or email the paperwork, but I was informed the process would take approximately two weeks. I was quite surprised by this response.

Reception staff were dismissive when seeking help

I find it concerning that each time I contact the practice, I encounter front desk staff who seem dismissive and unhelpful. As someone seeking medical support during a difficult time, I would expect to be treated with understanding and genuine willingness to assist. I've been given instructions repeatedly, but when I've sought clarification and guidance on implementation, I've felt brushed aside and blamed for the situation. There has been ongoing uncertainty regarding my medication, and I have not yet received what was discussed. I am currently without my prescribed treatment and experiencing low mood, which feels compounded by the difficulty in accessing the support I need. I believe this reflects a gap in the quality of care and attention I should be receiving, and I am very disappointed by this experience.

Persistent problems with referrals and reception

I have consistently had unsatisfactory experiences during my seven years as a patient at this practice. On one occasion, a referral to a specialist did not materialise within the expected timeframe. Additionally, during another visit, there was an administrative issue at reception that resulted in a delayed check-in process, causing me to wait considerably longer than anticipated for my appointment.

Quick response to urgent dental pain on Friday

Called 111 at 8pm on a Friday evening due to dental discomfort. Within 30 minutes I had spoken to someone and been told a dental professional would contact me within 6 hours. The call came within 10 minutes and an appointment was arranged at the dental facility for 10.45pm. A follow-up call came 25 minutes later asking if I could attend sooner, which I was able to do. By 9.30pm I arrived at the facility and was seen immediately by the dentist without waiting. The clinician performed a very thorough examination, including X-rays, tooth and gum assessment and sensitivity evaluations that I hadn't experienced before. I received treatment for the sensitivity and a prescription for specialist toothpaste. The appointment included detailed explanation of the issue and considerable additional guidance. There was no sense of rushing and I was invited to return if needed. I was so satisfied that I asked about regular availability as I would like to continue with this dentist. The entire experience from initial call to being treated was completed within an hour and a half on a Friday night, which I found remarkable. The speed and quality of the service was impressive. I don't frequently use NHS services beyond occasional GP visits and had never used this service before, but I found myself very grateful for its existence and the staff who operate it. The experience left me feeling fortunate and appreciative of the healthcare provision available.

Felt listened to and genuinely cared for

A healthcare professional saw me on a bank holiday in May at approximately 9:10pm. They listened carefully to what I was experiencing and addressed my concern, which felt urgent as I had been dealing with discomfort for roughly a week and managing it with pain relief medication. The clinician provided an assessment, offered a diagnosis, and then provided treatment. I found them to be highly skilled and effective in their approach. Although I may require additional treatment in the future, despite being in discomfort at the time, I felt a sense of relief and even amusement upon receiving the diagnosis, as I was grateful to have professional support. I had spent years struggling with my mental health and feeling disconnected, and this year marked my first visit to seek this type of care in approximately eight years. The clinician made me feel genuinely cared for and helped restore my faith in the kindness of healthcare workers. I am very grateful for the care I received.

Felt reassured during emergency dental visit

I attended the dental practice following a referral from an NHS telephone service due to significant dental discomfort. The dental professional I saw was warm and understanding, recognising my anxiety and discomfort in an unfamiliar setting. They worked to make what was an uncomfortable situation as relaxed as possible. I began a course of root canal treatment during this visit.

The reception experience was quite disappointing. When I attempted to schedule an appointment, I was informed that no bookings were available at that time and the call was ended abruptly.
