Patient Experience Summary

Feedback on this practice reflects a marked divide in patient experience. Clinical care receives consistent praise, with patients highlighting the competence and compassion of medical professionals and nursing staff who demonstrate thorough, attentive approaches to consultations. However, significant concerns emerge around access to appointments, which patients describe as increasingly difficult, with many reporting that available slots disappear within minutes of the surgery opening. Reception experience is similarly polarised, with some patients commending staff courtesy and helpfulness, whilst others report dismissive attitudes and lack of accommodation.

Administrative processes present a particular challenge across multiple service areas. The e-consult system is frequently criticised as ineffective and frustrating, with patients describing lengthy waits for responses that often fail to resolve their concerns. Prescription services have deteriorated notably, with patients reporting delays and unavailability of medications at partner pharmacies, creating genuine distress for those dependent on regular medication. Communication gaps persist, with patients noting that follow-up support is inconsistent and that administrative barriers often prevent timely access to care.

Whilst some patients report recent improvements such as the introduction of a telephone queuing system, the overall pattern suggests a practice where clinical quality is undermined by systemic access and administrative difficulties. Long-standing patients particularly note a decline from previous service standards, and many express frustration that obtaining a GP appointment has become substantially more challenging despite the clinical team's evident capability and dedication.

Endless wait and terrible customer service nightmare

Absolutely terrible customer experience. Stuck waiting first in line for nearly three-quarters of an hour, ultimately forced to abandon my attempt to get assistance due to the excessive wait time.

Quick and caring medical service that works

I hadn't visited a medical professional in quite some time, but today required an urgent consultation regarding a possible infection. This morning's call revealed they've implemented a queuing system, which was a welcome improvement over repeatedly encountering busy signals. I was connected quickly, and a courteous, enthusiastic receptionist greeted me, expressing regret for any potential wait and scheduling my appointment within the hour. I believe the practitioner was named Kate, and her care was exceptional. Remarkably, just 35 minutes after my scheduled time, I've already obtained my antibiotics, received clear guidance on monitoring the infection, and returned home. The service was absolutely flawless - congratulations to the Esplanade team and sincere appreciation for their assistance.

Terrible website design fails basic usability test

This online platform is absolutely atrocious. Having witnessed the evolution of websites from their inception, I consider myself quite tech-savvy, yet I was utterly frustrated by the sheer complexity of locating even the most straightforward details, ultimately abandoning my search in despair. Consequently, it is abundantly clear that senior citizens with minimal technological proficiency would find navigating this website completely insurmountable.

Prescription system failure leaves patient in medical limbo

Whoever dreamed up this so-called "improved" prescription system clearly lacks basic common sense and should be institutionalized. The previous method at Lloyds worked perfectly fine for the majority of patients - why mess with something that wasn't broken? Once again, critical medications that require careful medical supervision were inexplicably unavailable at the pharmacy, despite the prescription being electronically submitted. Technology is supposedly miraculous, but only when it actually functions properly! My last doses for three essential medications were on Friday, so thanks a lot, Esplanade surgery, for ensuring a truly "wonderful" weekend of potential health complications!

Compassionate care saved my day after painful fall

A massive shout-out to the incredible team at this medical practice who examined my facial wounds after an unfortunate tumble near the Hoverport on Monday 20/03/23. My companion stepped in and inquired whether someone could evaluate and provide guidance for my injuries... And they absolutely did!!! The entire process took mere moments - they were incredibly compassionate and comforting. Remarkable staff and approach... XXX

Bad!

Disappointing healthcare with minimal patient communication

The medical practice seems intentionally distant from patient engagement. Ever since the pandemic, they've adopted a detached methodology, and my sense is that if their initial interventions fail to address a patient's health concerns, they essentially abandon further follow-up or support.

Frustrating medical experience with mixed professional care

The automated greeting claiming progress beyond the COVID era is laughably ironic, as this medical facility seems to have regressed rather than advanced. While the physicians themselves demonstrate competence and thoroughness during consultations, the surrounding administrative processes and patient communication are disappointingly substandard.

Terrible surgery with dangerous medical negligence

I departed from the Esplanade Surgery feeling frustrated by multiple medication-related mistakes. Sadly, my father remained under their care, with a GP dismissing his condition as merely a cyst through supposed "X-ray vision" and declining an urgent referral. He received a scan appointment for 21st July, approximately 5 weeks after his initial consultation. Worried about the lengthy wait, I contacted St Mary's, who placed him on a cancellation list and advised me to request an urgent referral from the GP. After enduring extremely unhelpful receptionists, they promised to consult the GP and return my call - predictably, no callback occurred. Fortunately, he managed a cancellation scan, though they couldn't definitively confirm it was a cyst and would refer back to the GP for further investigation. He received a blood test call the following day, and a biopsy appointment the day after. Had the GP performed her duties professionally instead of making an uninformed guess, he would have been seen much more promptly. The Esplanade Surgery is a deeply disappointing medical practice with discourteous staff and incompetent physicians.

Frustrating healthcare experience with unhelpful staff

As someone with a full-time job, I find it incredibly frustrating that over the past couple of years, securing a doctor's appointment or consultation has become an arduous battle. The moment the surgery opens at 8:30, by 8:31 all available slots are inexplicably gone, assuming you can even get through on the phone. While I acknowledge the challenges posed by the pandemic, when you're genuinely unwell, obtaining medical advice feels like an impossible task. Consequently, I'm forced to resort to calling 111, and to make matters worse, the surgery's receptionist displays a complete lack of empathy and shows no interest in being even slightly accommodating.

Exceptional healthcare during challenging pandemic times

During these challenging times, this compact medical practice has proven to be a lifeline over the past quarter. I've interacted with three general practitioners, two nursing staff, and several administrative personnel. Without exception, every individual was exceptional, approachable, and genuinely helpful - a stark contrast to my previous experiences with other Ryde healthcare facilities. Absolutely recommended.

Disappointing decline of a once-trusted medical practice

Concise yet clear, this medical practice has significantly deteriorated. The front desk staff I've recently interacted with comes across as curt, unsympathetic, and frankly, somewhat discourteous (at least based on my personal interactions). The physicians seem relatively competent, but overall, the quality of this surgery center has markedly declined. Having been a long-time patient here, it's truly disheartening to witness such a decline in service and care.

Always greeted with such warmth and kindness, particularly by the wonderful long-brown-haired lady - I wish I knew her name, but she's absolutely fantastic! The nurse provided exceptional care. This is definitely the most outstanding medical practice I've ever been registered with! Fully deserving of a 5-star rating!

Terrible service after decades of good patient care

I've been a patient at this medical practice for over 35 years, and until recently, I consistently received good treatment. Now, getting an appointment with a GP seems impossible. For the past fortnight, I've called precisely at 8:30am daily, only to be informed that no emergency slots are available. When I requested a future appointment, I was told to call back in seven weeks. I'm thoroughly distressed that this practice has dramatically deteriorated. Patient care is non-existent, despite me experiencing severe pain. The receptionists are completely unhelpful and appear determined to deflect my attempts to see a doctor. Their dismissive attitude has left me bewildered and without options. I'm seriously contemplating paying for private medical care, though this would mean sacrificing essential expenses like food and bills. This practice should be thoroughly embarrassed by their appalling patient treatment. While all GPs supposedly pledge to help patients, this practice has blatantly disregarded their fundamental duty of care.
