Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a practice with significant operational challenges alongside pockets of clinical excellence. Appointment access remains a persistent concern, with patients reporting difficulty reaching the surgery by phone, lengthy waiting times to connect, and limited availability of slots. The booking experience is frequently described as frustrating, with some patients unable to secure appointments despite multiple attempts. Reception experience emerges as a key issue, with reports of dismissive, discourteous, and unhelpful communication from front desk staff, though some patients have noted exceptional professionalism from individual team members. Prescription coordination presents ongoing difficulties, including delays and communication breakdowns between the practice and pharmacy.

In contrast, clinical care receives consistent praise when patients access it. Doctors and nurses are frequently described as compassionate, professional, and thorough, with several patients expressing gratitude for the quality of medical attention and clinical expertise. The telephone triage system is highlighted positively by some patients as an efficient approach to managing demand. However, the gap between accessing care and receiving it remains problematic, with patients expressing frustration that excellent clinical standards are undermined by barriers to appointment availability and reception courtesy.

The practice appears to operate under significant resource constraints, which some patients acknowledge while others question whether this justifies the service gaps experienced. Concerns about patient confidentiality in the reception area and limited continuity of care are also noted. Overall, the feedback suggests a practice where clinical capability exists but is compromised by access difficulties and inconsistent reception standards.

Effortless booking that saved my morning sanity

I just tried out their digital scheduling platform for the first time, and it's a game-changer compared to the old method of repeatedly dialing the phone early in the morning. I received a response from them surprisingly quickly - within 60 minutes. Extremely satisfied with the experience. Much appreciation! 🙂

Dreadful experience

Haven’t actually seen a doctor in over 3 years, everything is dealt with by the shouty nurse. 15 mins, only talk about what you have come for. So rude. Sent to Boots pharmacy for diagnosis, Boots sent me back, couldn’t diagnose. No follow up from surgery. Signs up about respect but spoken to dreadfully by prescription dept. I appreciate maybe some tricky customers but you can’t treat and speak to everyone like that. It’s just not right. . Queue in all weathers for appointments 20-25 people outside, can’t get appt online. Last week couldn’t order script online, no records online, no point. Absolutely zero continuity. Wouldn’t recommend.

Amazing service at fir park medical centre

The staff here demonstrate exceptional professionalism given their limited resources. Typically, a single receptionist manages a high volume of patients across different age groups, many of whom can be unclear or slow. These receptionists display remarkable patience, even when patients are mistaken or disruptive - arriving early or providing incorrect information. Unlike my previous encounters with unhelpful reception staff, this surgery's team is consistently polite and pleasant. Although medical appointments usually cause me significant anxiety, this GP practice makes the entire process much more comfortable. The doctors and nurses are consistently proactive in addressing patient concerns and finding practical solutions. The pharmacists are equally compassionate and supportive. We often criticize service delays without considering the immense workload these healthcare professionals manage within a challenging system. While this reflects my personal experience at Fir Park, I wanted to highlight that positive patient experiences do exist. This morning perfectly illustrates their efficiency - within just two hours, I successfully booked an appointment, received medical consultation, collected a new prescription, and scheduled a blood test. A long-standing health issue was finally addressed comprehensively and swiftly. My sincere appreciation to the entire team!

Frustrating healthcare maze with unhelpful staff everywhere

Scheduling a medical consultation here is an absolute nightmare. Attempting to book an appointment requires endless phone calls, and the reception staff are incredibly combative when you explain your need. When I tried to get help for my sick toddler, they were dismissive and tried to redirect me to a pharmacy. However, the pharmacy staff just keep referring me back to a general practitioner. It's a frustrating circular process that leaves you feeling completely stuck and without proper medical support.

Deadly negligence destroys lives in nhs care

Dismissing my wife's concerns by claiming they're overwhelmed, which might seem reasonable, but she's critically unwell, and they similarly disregarded her brother, who passed away six months later at just 19 from cancer. Initially, they misdiagnosed his condition as an abscess. Now, my wife is riddled with abscesses, constantly suffering, yet they refuse to provide her with an appointment. This is an absolute mockery of healthcare, with the government systematically destroying the NHS.

Frustrating appointments but good doctors when seen

Getting a consultation by phone is nearly unachievable. To have any hope of securing an appointment, you must line up outside the clinic at 8am. Clearly, this approach isn't feasible for all patients, and I suspect many vulnerable individuals are left without medical attention. Moreover, I've observed that the line outside is consistently lengthy, meaning even physically waiting in person doesn't promise you'll be seen. The medical center's actual infrastructure is excellent, and on the rare occasions you do manage to see a physician, they are typically very supportive and professional.

Terrible medical practice with unhelpful receptionists

This surgery is appalling. I sent an email and received an automated acknowledgment. When no reply came, I phoned and the receptionist claimed they hadn't received my email and the address had changed! I sensed she was being dishonest. I consequently sent another email to the same address and called a different receptionist, who indeed located and read my email. My initial suspicion was correct, and I have her name if I decide to file a formal complaint, which I'm strongly considering. Securing an appointment is virtually impossible unless you can call or queue at 8am. Some reception staff are discourteous and unhelpful. Avoid if possible! Furthermore, after multiple appointment attempts, I managed an online telephone slot for 10.20am-10.30am but hadn't received a call by 11.50am. Upon calling, I was told the online booking time is merely a "guideline"! This is absolutely outrageous - you book a specific time you're available, yet potentially become unavailable waiting. What's the point of online booking if they can't honor the designated time? I'm definitely leaving this surgery and registering elsewhere! If I could submit a zero-star review, I absolutely would, but the system requires at least one star to post!

Widnes healthcare nightmare a total disaster

A patient expressed frustration after waiting an entire day without receiving a callback. The receptionist ultimately suggests calling emergency services as no GP is available, despite the patient waiting all day for an appointment. It's clear they're merely redirecting people. A receptionist claimed over 100 calls are triaged daily, which suggests an alarming number of potential emergencies in Widnes. The era of compassionate GP care is over, replaced by bureaucracy and system referrals. Serious health concerns like potential cancer referrals and breast lumps are being delayed for 6 months, contradicting NHS England guidelines. Patients must now take primary responsibility for their healthcare, with medical practices offering minimal support. Hospitals patch you up and send you back to a GP who will simply pass you along again. If 100 people genuinely speak to a GP daily, what underlying health issues plague Widnes? We're a forgotten industrial town on the city's periphery, a chemical-laden community where early mortality is expected. Why even provide medical care? No home visits are offered, instead patients are directed to hospitals, yet when calling, GPs are inexplicably out on calls. Choose one approach: provide home visits or don't. The British Medical Council mandates certain standards, but they're consistently ignored. Widnes: a place where hope for healthcare goes to die.

Disappointing medical care with frustrating appointment process

This medical practice appears contemporary, yet securing an appointment is challenging, and actually seeing a physician is an entirely different challenge. The standard of healthcare is subpar, and I frequently receive broad-spectrum antibiotics for brief periods, which invariably result in requiring additional medical intervention. It's become routine to be seen by either a nurse substituting for a doctor or a junior physician who must constantly exit the room to consult with another professional. These practices significantly undermine patient trust and amplify the anxiety associated with one's medical condition.

Terrible healthcare with zero patient compassion

Absolutely terrible!!! The front desk staff are discourteous, unaccommodating, and aggressive. When I sought medication assistance for my homebound relative battling heart failure, they deliberately created numerous obstacles for the patient. They insist on the patient physically coming to the clinic to fill out paperwork, which is completely unreasonable. Their approach is entirely focused on bureaucratic procedures rather than patient care and compassion.

Nightmare doctor appointment booking system destroys day

Utterly unbelievable! I woke up early on my day off at 7:55am, dialed over 360 times, managed to connect 3 times, even reached queue position 1 only to have the call drop! After an exhausting marathon of 360+ attempts, I finally get through at 8:33am, only to be informed that no appointments are left. The staff casually mentions that "the system occasionally crashes and disconnects calls" like it's no big deal. Now I'm completely stressed out, feeling terrible, and with no medical help in sight! They suggest I try again tomorrow, completely disregarding that today is my only free day! These healthcare providers are absolutely appalling, and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone under any circumstances!

Terrible service from unprofessional and unhelpful medical staff

This medical practice is absolutely terrible. Previously, it was excellent, but now I cannot suggest it to anyone. The issues begin with the reception team, who are discourteous, condescending, and thoroughly unprofessional. They brazenly fabricate information and seem to deceive patients routinely. Their standard response to any appointment request is to direct you to a walk-in clinic. The physicians are equally problematic. When you do manage to see them, they communicate in a patronizing manner, treating patients as though they lack any medical knowledge. Their approach demonstrates zero compassion, and they appear incapable of genuinely listening. Furthermore, they frequently make medication errors and misdiagnose treatments. My advice is straightforward: invest your energy in finding another surgery. There are numerous alternative practices with staff who are genuinely helpful and respectful.
