I was very disappointed with my recent appointment. I felt uncomfortable that a receptionist was present during my consultation, as they do not have medical training. The clinician I saw seemed unfamiliar with my case and did not clearly explain what the issue was. I was also asked whether the practice could use AI technology to generate appointment notes, which concerned me about how the practice is being run. I have also noticed changes to how appointments are booked - the practice no longer asks patients to call at a specific time, and instead uses an online booking system via text link, which raises questions about data privacy. Additionally, I found it frustrating that the practice appears to have a policy of addressing only one health concern per appointment, even when multiple issues could reasonably be discussed together. I have been a patient here for over two decades and feel the service has declined significantly. These changes feel poorly managed and I am disappointed with the direction the practice is taking.

Medication errors and long waits without explanation
I have experienced issues on two separate occasions where I did not receive the medication I had requested, which resulted in me being without my respiratory medication for several days. This caused me significant difficulty managing my respiratory condition, to the extent that I had to use someone else's medication as a temporary solution. Additionally, I had an appointment scheduled for the early morning slot. I arrived approximately ten minutes early and checked in as requested. However, I was not called through until around fifteen minutes after my scheduled appointment time. When I enquired with reception staff about the delay, as I had specifically requested this early slot to avoid being late for work, they were unable to provide an explanation. I continued waiting for a further five minutes without any communication. During this time, I could hear staff members in a nearby room engaged in conversation and laughter. I subsequently learned that the healthcare professional scheduled to see me was in that room, and the reason given for my appointment not starting on time was that a staff meeting was taking place that morning. This raises the question of why appointments were booked at that time if a meeting was already scheduled. These experiences have significantly affected my confidence in the practice. The repeated issues with medication provision, combined with what I perceive as a lack of accountability, professionalism, and consideration for patients' time, have left me concerned about the standard of care and service I can expect.

The management representative was unable to provide clear answers to my specific questions and seemed more preoccupied with the practice's expansion plans and building works than with addressing my worries. I felt the focus should have been on the wellbeing of current patients rather than growth initiatives. I found the suggestion regarding my mental health to be dismissive of legitimate concerns. This is an excellent practice, and overall a very good surgery with a diverse team of clinicians. Like many NHS services, there can be typical waiting times for routine appointments that extend several weeks ahead. However, I am able to reach them and secure an appointment when needed. In comparison to other practices I have attended previously, which were disappointing and gave cause for concern, this one stands out positively. When I have experienced urgent health matters, I have received same-day callback and appropriate care or guidance to the right services. The team demonstrates competence and friendliness, and it is uncommon for appointments to run significantly behind schedule. I feel my concerns are genuinely heard and addressed rather than dismissed, which was my experience elsewhere. Being properly listened to has resulted in accurate diagnosis and management of several health issues, which has genuinely improved my quality of life. This is the only practice where I feel confident seeing any clinician, though I do have two preferred practitioners who consistently remember my details and medical history. It is considerably less frustrating to discuss my health rather than waiting for someone to review my records. Despite seeing large numbers of patients, they remember me as an individual. That personal touch means a great deal.

Attended an appointment today with my daughter, who has experienced ongoing discomfort. While a physical examination was carried out, the consultation felt dismissive and lacked sensitivity. Communication appeared to be one-sided, with limited opportunity for input from patients, and the overall manner came across as somewhat curt. I was present to provide support as my daughter finds these appointments stressful and worries about not being heard—a concern stemming from previous experiences where concerns were not adequately addressed, leading to a hospital referral and subsequent treatment. During the consultation, I felt similarly overlooked and talked past. The appointment concluded without a pain management plan being established, and when I requested an additional screening sample, it was provided in a manner that felt abrupt rather than helpful.
