Patient Experience Summary

Feedback on this practice reveals a deeply polarized patient experience. Positive reviews consistently highlight responsive communication, with patients reporting prompt callback services and efficient triage systems. Reception staff receive praise for courtesy and welcoming demeanor, while several patients commend the ease of appointment booking and availability of evening and weekend slots. Clinical care is described by satisfied patients as thorough, compassionate, and professional, with particular appreciation for attentive listening and personalized support during consultations.

Negative feedback centres on significant concerns about appointment access and communication barriers. Patients report difficulty securing in-person appointments, with some describing lengthy waits and frustration at being directed toward online booking despite stated phone availability. Reception experience emerges as inconsistent, with complaints of dismissive attitudes, rudeness, and lack of respect during interactions. Several patients express concern about care quality, citing instances where clinical concerns were not adequately investigated, diagnostic tests were declined, or advice appeared dismissive of genuine health worries.

A recurring theme across critical reviews involves the tension between telephone triage and in-person consultation. Some patients feel their concerns are not properly assessed without face-to-face examination, and report experiencing delayed diagnoses or inadequate care as a result. The practice's shift toward remote consultations during and after the pandemic appears to have created significant dissatisfaction among those who feel their health issues require direct clinical evaluation.

Swift Response and Exceptional Care at Medical Practice

The service provided is consistently outstanding. I reached out to the practice, and within an hour, Dr. Bracey returned my call. I was able to see him just 20 minutes later. He even contacted the hospital to set up additional examinations regarding my symptoms. I highly recommend this practice!

Efficient Triage Service with Responsive, Professional Care

The triage service operates with remarkable efficiency. After finishing my e-consult, I received a call back in just two hours and was subsequently seen by a friendly male GP that very morning. He took the time to clarify the reasons behind my issue, which left me feeling at ease. Throughout my experiences with this practice, I have consistently found them to be swift and attentive in addressing any concerns I've encountered. I wholeheartedly recommend this approachable and professional team!

Unprofessional care leaves patient frustrated and disappointed

I've repeatedly sought help for my weight issues. When I told Dr. Bracey about my diet of salads, he laughed dismissively, which I found incredibly frustrating. He suggested that the best weight loss strategy was to essentially starve myself and ignore hunger pangs, even recommending I run endless miles like his wife! Despite the reception's claim of believing and respecting patients, my experience was completely contrary to this promise. I'm definitely switching medical practices. The only decent doctor was a female physician, but her text about my "happy pills" (her term for antidepressants) struck me as unprofessional. The dietitian was incredibly unhelpful and dismissive when I requested weight loss medication, rudely claiming that prescribing such treatments would bankrupt the NHS. Last year, my father experienced severe pain and was completely disregarded by Dr. Bracey. He ultimately ended up hospitalized with critical pancreatitis and nearly died from subsequent stomach infections and pancreatic abscesses. I could continue detailing the numerous unprofessional interactions my father and I have experienced, including Dr. Bracey hanging up on my dad when he challenged the lack of a prescription. My trust in medical professionals is rapidly diminishing.

Declining Patient Care Despite Good Doctors

I once cherished the experience at this practice; it was so easy to call, schedule an appointment, and feel heard and supported in all areas of my care. Then the pandemic struck, leading to new protocols designed for safety… I understand completely… we all do. Nonetheless, not everyone is comfortable making appointments online. While the website claims you can book via phone or through their site, unfortunately, the unprofessional receptionists adamantly push for online bookings only. Moreover, their website fails to address every possible symptom… it's important to remember that we aren’t medically trained individuals ourselves which is why having a conversation over the phone tends to be more beneficial. Despite this change—where triage has become standard—I’ve found myself hospitalized simply because I couldn't meet with my doctor in person. More recently, I received a prescription over the phone for back pain without any prior assessment—only later did I find out that I'd actually slipped a disk in my neck. After enduring months of discomfort, I sought help from a private clinic which ultimately referred me to a chiropractor; it worked wonders but certainly came at quite an expense. Whenever I've had face-to-face consultations with my physician; those interactions have been incredibly positive—I always leave feeling informed and valued as part of my healthcare process. The management approach of this practice requires significant improvement... If no changes are feasible then regrettably it may be time for them to consider closing altogether. The quality of patient care is currently jeopardized and needs urgent attention.

Unprofessional GP Surgery with One Decent Doctor

This is by far the most disappointing general practitioner surgery I have ever been associated with! It begins with a frazzled receptionist, followed by two male doctors who appear both unqualified and indifferent. They weighed my baby while she was still wearing her diaper, and on two separate instances, one suggested I look up my treatment online while the other advised me to visit a pharmacy instead. The only competent physician in this practice is the female doctor. I've since registered with another GP who already seems significantly more professional and capable.

Healthcare Access Frustrations in Post-Pandemic World

I am completely appalled by this situation. It seems necessary for them to understand that we are coexisting with COVID-19 now, and it's time to progress and begin properly seeing and treating patients. After all, we contribute significantly through our national insurance payments. There are numerous other illnesses that pose a far greater risk yet remain overlooked since the onset of the pandemic. I attempted to schedule an appointment online, but their services are presently unavailable. This is simply unacceptable. Your online platform ought to function around the clock for submitting emails because that's currently the sole method available for making appointments—provided, of course, that the doctor considers it urgent enough for patients to receive attention 🙄.

Unprofessional doctors fail patient care completely

Dr Bracey and Dr Pouncey demonstrate a severe lack of professional competence and display discourteous behavior. The sole previously redeeming aspect of their practice was the ease of scheduling appointments, which has now been reduced to impersonal telephone consultations. When presented with my child's highly contagious bacterial infection, they were unwilling to provide an in-person examination and callously recommended sending the child to nursery, directly contradicting established NHS guidelines regarding antibiotic treatment.

Medical Negligence and Weight Shaming Nightmare

I have decided to switch to a different medical practice! The physician expressed complete confidence that there was no issue with my nine-week-old baby, despite her having a persistent cough for an entire week. During the visit, they handed my partner a stethoscope so she could listen to our daughter’s chest herself. My partner quickly detected wheezing sounds coming from our child's chest. When another doctor eventually listened and realized the situation, they were very apologetic and prescribed some medication! To make matters worse, upon returning home we received a phone call informing us that we are on the list of individuals needing to consult with a weight loss specialist! This is incredibly rude and offensive!!! Both of us are comfortably within our average weight range. The attitude displayed by the staff in this establishment is thoroughly unprofessional; it feels disrespectful and dismissive. It truly seems like this place should be closed down immediately! What adds insult to injury is how the doctors and staff should refrain from making such insulting comments about customers being directed towards weight loss programs—especially when those remarks aren't warranted at all!! I cannot emphasize enough how crucial it is for others to avoid this practice at all costs!

The most disappointing medical professionals in Exeter can be found at Foxhayes. It’s alarming to think that doctors like them contribute to the daily loss of lives due to avoidable health issues. Brilliant Nurses, Terrible Service: Reception Nightmare

I would prefer to leave no stars at all. The nursing staff is truly exceptional, and I feel bad expressing this opinion, but the reception personnel and Dr. Bracey stand out as some of the most arrogant and discourteous individuals I've ever encountered! Being told, “at least we answer the phone,” while receiving unpleasant voicemails due to my inability to secure an appointment—especially when working makes it nearly impossible to take calls—is incredibly frustrating. I have been waiting for over three months for assistance only to experience rudeness in return. When my daughter's ear was bleeding, Dr. Bracey couldn't provide any help; we were simply informed that it was viral in nature. My complaints stem from sheer disgust at the apparent lack of care and regard shown by the staff here! It pains me to think about others in our community who will also be subjected to this treatment. There is a pressing need for a complete overhaul involving new doctors and receptionists! Nevertheless, I must emphasize that the nurses are outstanding!!!!

Dismissive Receptionists Deny Patient Pain Relief

After expressing my distress to the receptionist regarding the unbearable pain I had been experiencing, alongside the fact that my dentist was unable to provide me with stronger pain relief due to regulatory restrictions and a failed prescription attempt, I was informed that tooth-related issues were not within their purview and that I needed to return to my dentist. Additionally, they offered an analogy: “If you go to the butcher’s, you don’t ask for salmon.” The conversation ended abruptly with them saying, “Please call your dentist. Thank you,” before hanging up on me. Years ago, I encountered a similar issue with another receptionist who addressed a problem concerning a halted repeat prescription by stating that “for all she knew, I could be living abroad,” which led her to conclude that my statin prescription was no longer valid. This kind of response should automatically disqualify them from holding an Outstanding rating from CQC. Moreover, when patients approach their staff in good faith seeking assistance regarding concerns they have about their health care services—especially if approached respectfully—it is expected of professionals in this field not only to avoid negative judgments but also actively assist as part of their responsibilities. A constructive attitude is essential in establishing trust and ensuring patients feel supported during challenging times related to their health matters.
