Receptionists talk over you instead of listening

It's no longer possible to see a preferred healthcare provider who has been managing your care over an extended period and is familiar with your circumstances. Each appointment feels like beginning from scratch, assuming you can secure one in the first place. There was a significant delay of 6 days before a prescription was forwarded to the pharmacy, resulting in a 3-day gap without medication. During a conversation with reception staff on a Monday morning, I felt unheard and talked over rather than listened to. The focus on individualised patient care appears to have diminished.

Booking system made getting an appointment difficult

I will not be using this booking system again. I'm unsure who this system is designed to benefit, as it certainly doesn't seem to work in the patient's favour. I was unable to secure an appointment or speak with a healthcare professional directly. When I reached out, I received a response directing me to return to the online platform and attempt booking again. The earliest available slot was more than two weeks in the future, which was disappointing. 😐

It is very difficult to secure an appointment at this practice. When attempting an online consultation, I was instructed at the conclusion to contact the surgery by phone. Upon calling, I was then directed to attend in person so that staff could conduct an online consultation. The process felt unnecessarily complicated and frustrating.

I don't attend my GP frequently, but I recently scheduled appointments for routine health screenings and a chronic condition review. Unfortunately, both appointments were cancelled on multiple occasions by the practice. While the staff members I encountered were friendly and welcoming, the repeated cancellations were quite concerning during this period.

Reception failed to notify us of deregistration

I am extremely disappointed with what occurred during my visit to the clinic today. My son has been a patient here since birth, spanning seven years. Between 2018 and 2021, he received ongoing care for a serious medical condition. Although we relocated to a nearby area, we chose to remain with this practice due to its convenient location. This morning, I attended the clinic to inform reception that my son appeared to have a contagious childhood illness and to request appropriate medical guidance and treatment options. The receptionist asked for my son's name and date of birth to locate his records. She then informed me that no record could be found in the system. I explained that this seemed impossible given his long-standing registration since infancy. When asked to provide my updated address, I did so, and the receptionist suggested that our registration may have been automatically terminated following our house move. I was shocked by this explanation and questioned how I had received no written notification, communication, or prior warning of any kind. The receptionist apologized but offered no further resolution. When I asked how my son would access the medical treatment he needed, I was advised to purchase over-the-counter cream from a pharmacy instead. This experience has left me feeling let down and frustrated by the lack of communication and support provided.

I have experienced difficulties with prescription management on multiple occasions over the years, including instances where prescriptions appeared to contain errors resulting in unexpected charges at the pharmacy. Additionally, I have found it challenging to secure appointments and have had interactions with reception staff that I felt could have been more welcoming. The prescription ordering service previously operated on limited hours during weekdays, and I understand this service has since become unavailable, which creates barriers for those unable to visit the surgery in person. Another concern is the inconsistency in seeing the same clinician, which means continuity of care and familiarity with my medical background can be lacking. While I have generally found the clinical staff to be professional, the appointment availability remains a significant obstacle. The nursing team have been particularly helpful and supportive throughout my experience.

Phone booking policy feels unfair and frustrating

Called today to arrange an appointment for my daughter and was informed that advance booking would be required for her to be seen. I'm unclear on the reasoning behind this policy. If I book ahead and am unable to attend, I understand there may be a charge applied. I find this approach problematic. It seems counterintuitive when healthcare facilities are already stretched and dealing with capacity issues. The local walk-in centre is no longer available either, which leaves limited options. This situation feels unnecessarily restrictive and frustrating.

Call handlers were helpful and understanding

I wanted to leave a positive review that acknowledges the difficulties all GP centres are currently experiencing. When you do manage to reach the reception team, they are helpful and considerate, and respond promptly when the situation calls for it. I also wanted to highlight a particular staff member who was exceptional when I called about a missed appointment and provided me with information to help me manage my own health concerns where possible, which has helped me maintain better wellbeing.

Once contact is made, appointments are unavailable as they appear to be fully booked in advance, despite the stated policy against advance bookings. Nurse actually listened and helped my breathing

I've been dealing with a respiratory condition for quite some time and find myself struggling regularly with my breathing. During my recent visit, I spoke with a healthcare professional rather than a doctor, and they were absolutely wonderful! They took time to listen carefully, recognised how much I've been struggling day to day, and assured me they would explore all available options to help manage my condition. I've since been prescribed a new medication which has made a real difference, and I feel considerably better. I'm very grateful to the healthcare professional who provided such supportive and helpful care.
