Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reflects a mixed experience with significant operational challenges alongside pockets of positive care. Appointment access remains the most consistent concern, with patients reporting difficulty reaching the practice by phone, lengthy waits for available slots, and a reliance on telephone-only consultations even when face-to-face assessment would be clinically appropriate. Reception staff courtesy varies considerably across reviews, with some patients praising friendliness and professionalism while others describe dismissive or unhelpful interactions. Prescription processing delays and communication gaps feature prominently in negative feedback, with patients experiencing repeated follow-up calls to obtain missing medications or clarification on orders.

Where positive experiences are documented, they centre on attentive listening, compassionate care from individual practitioners, and professional clinical expertise. Several patients highlight appreciation for thorough explanations, genuine engagement with their concerns, and accessibility support such as interpreter arrangements. However, these positive interactions appear inconsistent across the practice, and some long-term patients report a perceived decline in service quality over recent years, particularly regarding the availability of in-person appointments and responsiveness to urgent health needs.

Communication emerges as a cross-cutting theme—both in terms of patient-staff interactions and procedural clarity. Patients note that clearer information about appointment systems, prescription processes, and practice changes would improve their experience. The feedback suggests the practice would benefit from standardising service quality, improving appointment availability, and ensuring consistent courtesy and attentiveness across all patient touchpoints.

Terrible service doctors rely on patients to diagnose

It's nothing like it used to be. Booking appointments is impossible, and now you're expected to self-diagnose. When I inquired with the staff about seeing the doctor after a call, I was told no. I'm unclear on the point of this medical practice. Since symptoms can overlap across conditions, how can they determine proper treatment without examining the issue? Seems like they're pushing most of their diagnostic work onto me. I've been forced to use my routine check-up just to get any attention. I previously recommended this GP to others - a decision I now deeply regret. I've been informed they won't prescribe anything during a general consultation. They're completely ineffective and I wouldn't suggest them to anyone. I didn't even want to give a single star, but I had no alternative. They deserve a zero rating.

Surprisingly great medical centre with friendly staff

During my initial appointment at this healthcare facility today, I found myself pleasantly surprised, contrary to the low-rated review I had previously seen. The front desk staff demonstrated exceptional friendliness, and the physician was equally welcoming and professional.

Bad!

Terrible medical centre with negligent and unhelpful staff

I want to start by acknowledging that some of the younger medical staff at Grove Medical Centre are truly exceptional and supportive. However, it seems they don't remain long-term. Having been registered here for 8 years, I've found the past 4 years to be worryingly substandard. Securing an in-person GP appointment is virtually impossible. Recently, a psychologist sent a letter recommending an urgent health check, yet the GP scheduled a phone consultation. Despite my attempts to arrange an in-person visit and referencing the professional's concerns, I was repeatedly redirected. When I followed their instruction to call at 8am, I was inexplicably transferred to an external out-of-hours service, which again offered only a phone appointment. The bureaucratic obstacles to receiving face-to-face medical care are completely bewildering. During my pulsatile tinnitus episode, I never received an in-person examination. Multiple phone consultations resulted in three antibiotic prescriptions without any physical inspection. They even suggested I visit Scrivens for an ear check. The professional there was astounded that I'd been prescribed antibiotics repeatedly without a proper examination, confirming I never had an ear infection. Eventually, I secured an in-person appointment and ENT referral, but this process consumed six months - potentially risking my health through unnecessary medication. I have numerous similar experiences with this practice. Their management is fundamentally flawed. My strong recommendation is to seek alternative healthcare providers if possible. In my experience, they seem primarily responsive only to potential cancer-related concerns.

Terrible medical practice with dangerous referral errors

It's truly disappointing that a zero-star option doesn't exist. The staff, including both administrative personnel and medical professionals, display a complete lack of empathy. For the second time this year, my family has been subjected to an incorrect referral. When we contacted them to highlight that an urgent referral was erroneously categorized as routine, their response was that all general practitioners had departed for the day - and this was before 1 PM. We're not naive enough to accept such a transparent excuse. Their behavior is utterly disgraceful. My recommendation is clear: seek medical care elsewhere and avoid this incompetent practice!

Compassionate care through decades of medical challenges

Throughout my 23-year journey with Grove Medical Centre, I've consistently experienced exceptional care and support from every member of their team, including physicians, reception personnel, and physiotherapists. They have been instrumental in helping me navigate through several challenging medical conditions, most notably my battle with Colitis, which was quickly followed by the necessity of critical heart surgery. The compassionate and professional approach of this medical practice has been nothing short of remarkable, and I am deeply appreciative of the comprehensive healthcare I have received during my time as their patient.
