Hard to get face-to-face appointments when needed
I believe this GP practice warrants further scrutiny. A family member required post-surgical follow-up care, and whilst the practice identified a need for review, obtaining a face-to-face appointment proved impossible, which seemed unreasonable. Additionally, another family member received a diagnosis but treatment was not initiated promptly. During a telephone consultation, I investigated the situation and was concerned to find that no treatment plan had been started, with only dietary advice offered initially. After several months, medication was eventually prescribed. I am disappointed with the standard of care provided. Furthermore, I noticed the practice appeared to rely on translation software rather than utilising the dedicated NHS translation services that should be available. I was also troubled to learn through media reports that a clinician from this practice had faced professional suspension. In my view, general practice should involve thorough assessment and investigation of patient health rather than premature referrals to emergency services for non-urgent matters. General practitioners serve as gatekeepers who should refer appropriately to specialists; emergency departments are for life-threatening situations. When symptoms persist over an extended period, emergency services typically advise patients to seek GP care, which my family member attempted to do, yet suitable appointments were unavailable. I have suggested my family member consider registering elsewhere, as I do not feel the care received here has been adequate. Patients deserve to be treated with proper care and attention, not as subjects for experimentation.
