Reception dismissive about medication gaps
My prescription for mood-stabilising medication was declined as a review was needed, which I wasn't aware of. This left me without my medication for a week. The phone lines were difficult to get through on. When I attended in person to enquire about an emergency prescription that hadn't been sent, I was informed of the reason for the initial rejection. Upon explaining my concerns to the reception staff member about being without my medication, they suggested this was an extreme viewpoint. I should note that I had resumed this particular medication just over a year ago following a period of significant mental health difficulty. I find it concerning that someone in a frontline healthcare role would respond this way when a patient expresses worry about the risks associated with suddenly stopping their prescribed treatment. When I mentioned that the lack of medication could increase my vulnerability, I was told this was an extreme statement to make. I'm relieved that the situation didn't escalate further, and I'm grateful that my family situation remains unchanged. However, I'm troubled by how such interactions are handled in healthcare settings and worry about how similar situations might be managed in future.

Why is it unclear what the opening times are during the Easter period? All that happens is you get an automated message saying the surgery is closed, with a suggestion to look at the website, but the relevant times aren't displayed there either.

Outside bell didn't work when we needed it
I recently visited the surgery to submit a sample. I pressed the external bell multiple times without receiving a response. After a gentleman exited the building, I applied hand sanitiser, put on my mask, and entered with my grandchild. I was disappointed to find two receptionists at the desk who appeared to be conversing rather than attending to the entrance. Neither of them opened the door for us as we waited outside in the rain. Upon entering, I was told that visitors were not permitted to enter without staff assistance. I explained that I had rung the bell several times with no answer. I found the interaction with reception to be unwelcoming. The experience left me feeling frustrated with the service provided.

I would give this practice the lowest possible rating if I could. The reception team came across as unhelpful, unwelcoming and dismissive. Their attitude suggested a lack of enthusiasm for the role. The clinical staff were similarly disappointing. There were issues with prescription management, with staff indicating prescriptions were ready when they were not yet available. The process seemed inefficient, with apparent delays in getting necessary documentation signed off. Overall, my experience led me to decide to seek care elsewhere.

Appointment system needs work despite good care
I am grateful to the clinical team at this practice who identified a serious health concern, which led to my emergency hospital admission and treatment. While my condition remains ongoing, I have received suitable medication and continued monitoring, and I am very satisfied with the care provided. That said, I do feel the appointment booking system could benefit from review, as I have experienced difficulties with it previously.

I found this to be among the least satisfactory medical experiences I've had. During one visit, when I attempted to raise two separate concerns, I was told that the practice prefers to address only one issue per appointment due to time constraints. I felt this was quite limiting, particularly when dealing with multiple health matters simultaneously. Additionally, attempting to secure a same-day appointment proved extremely difficult, as this option does not appear to be readily available.

By the time I managed to get through, all available appointments had already been booked, which meant I had to spend over 2 hours at the NHS walk-in centre with my young child before being seen. I have since decided to switch to a different practice. I found the service to be unsatisfactory.
