Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reflects a significant divide in experience, with clinical staff consistently praised for their professionalism, compassion, and attentive care across the review period. However, substantial concerns centre on appointment access and booking systems. Telephone waiting times are frequently reported as lengthy and often unanswered, with patients describing extended holds and difficulty reaching reception. The appointment booking experience has become increasingly restrictive, with limited availability, single time slot options, and online systems that patients report as poorly designed and difficult to navigate. These access barriers appear particularly acute since organisational changes, with multiple patients noting service decline coinciding with a merger.

Reception experience presents mixed feedback. While some patients report courteous and helpful staff, others describe dismissive or unhelpful interactions, particularly during telephone contact. Communication responsiveness is a recurring concern, with patients reporting unanswered calls, unresponded online forms, and inadequate notification of appointment cancellations. Several patients highlight accessibility challenges, including inadequate wheelchair access and barriers for those without digital technology or comfort with online systems.

Clinical care quality remains generally positive when appointments are secured, though some patients express concerns about medication management and the involvement of non-clinical staff in consultations. The practice environment and continuity of care have been affected by recent changes, with patients noting loss of established practitioner relationships and reduced service options such as on-site nursing and walk-in clinics.

Practice unhelpful and difficult to contact

I feel this practice has significantly declined in terms of providing assistance, and I am quite dissatisfied with my experience at this centre. I have also struggled to obtain guidance on the complaints procedure.

Phone lines impossible to get through on

Unfortunately, I must agree that this practice's quality appears to have declined significantly in recent times. Reaching the surgery by phone proves extremely challenging. The practice seems to show limited engagement with patients who are unable to attend in person. A prescription item was misplaced and has not been located. There has been no communication regarding a combined vaccination appointment. The overall service experience has been disappointing.

Dismissed concerns about medication dosage

I had a very negative experience at this practice. My husband experienced significant health issues after his medication dosage was increased substantially. When we raised our concerns with the clinician, we were told the medication was not responsible for his problems. We decided to seek a second opinion at another practice, where the clinician reviewed his prescription and reduced it back to his previous level. The new clinician felt the higher dosage had been contributing to his poor health. I felt the original practice did not take our concerns seriously or provide the level of care we expected. Overall, I was disappointed with how we were treated and did not feel valued as patients.

Reception staff misled about who'd be calling back

This practice has experienced a significant decline in service quality. Accessing appointments with a doctor has become increasingly difficult, as unqualified staff members appear to be handling medication adjustments. On one occasion, my partner was informed she would receive a telephone consultation from a doctor on a specific date. When the call came through as expected, she discussed her health concerns, only to discover afterwards that a pharmacist had made the call rather than the doctor she had anticipated speaking with. This miscommunication meant she had shared sensitive medical information with someone she believed to be a qualified physician. We have since decided to register with a different practice.

Phone lines impossible to get through on

I have been attending this practice since birth, spanning 34 years. While it is understandable that general practices are currently managing high patient volumes, this practice has transformed from a welcoming and accessible service into one that appears largely inaccessible. In my experience, this decline coincided with an organisational merger. Attempting to contact the practice by telephone is largely unsuccessful. I waited several weeks for a phone appointment to discuss a routine health matter and renew an ongoing prescription, only for the scheduled call to occur at a time when I was unavailable due to work. Getting past the automated telephone system can take considerable time, and when calls do connect, they often go unanswered despite repeated attempts. At this stage, I question whether the practice remains genuinely accessible. In-person visits do not appear to be an option, telephone contact is extremely difficult to establish, and written enquiries receive no response. The only indication that the practice operates is occasional sightings of clinical staff in the local community, though clearly seeking healthcare advice in such informal settings would be inappropriate. I have decided to register with a different practice and would encourage current patients to consider doing the same. For those contemplating registration here, I would advise against it. I would likely provide a more responsive service myself, if only because I would at least answer when contacted.

Poor management left me feeling unheard and unsafe

I would recommend considering other options before registering at this practice. There are concerns about how medications are managed, which may create potential risks due to what appears to be inadequate oversight and a team that may lack sufficient training. Appointments with a fully qualified GP can be difficult to obtain, as many consultations are conducted with nursing staff instead. When GP appointments cannot be arranged, patients may be directed to an alternative site, where registration changes can occur without clear patient agreement or notification.

Phone queues make appointments difficult to book

I have become increasingly frustrated with the practice since the merger with the other surgeries. Telephone access has become problematic, with calls frequently going unanswered or the line being engaged, despite there appearing to be adequate administrative staff available. The loss of on-site nursing services means patients now need to travel a considerable distance to access these appointments at an alternative location. When I enquired about travel arrangements, I was simply advised to arrange my own transport. As a long-standing patient, I had no previous concerns about the quality of care or clinical staff until this point. While I understand that service delivery has been affected by recent circumstances, I do not feel this justifies expecting patients to undertake such lengthy journeys. I am particularly concerned about older patients who may struggle to access services due to travel difficulties or who may become discouraged by communication barriers. The current situation feels like an ongoing consequence of recent events that is being accepted without sufficient alternative solutions being offered.

I'm relatively new to this practice and haven't experienced any difficulties obtaining appointments, receiving prescriptions, or getting prompt replies to electronic communications. I believe they're performing well and I'm pleased with my decision to transfer from my previous practice.

Disappointed by limited service options available

During challenging circumstances, I was disappointed to find that this practice appeared to be offering fewer alternative service options compared to other local surgeries. When I raised concerns about the availability of these services, I felt the response was inflexible and dismissive, which was disheartening. I hope the practice will be able to expand its service offerings in the future to match the standard I would expect.
