The practice demonstrates a clear divide between clinical and reception service experiences. Physicians consistently receive praise for their clinical competence, attentiveness, and compassionate approach to patient care, with many patients reporting they feel genuinely heard and treated as individuals. The welcoming environment and courteous demeanor of medical staff are frequently highlighted as strengths.
However, reception experience emerges as a significant concern across multiple reviews. Patients report persistent challenges with appointment availability, with many unable to secure slots despite repeated attempts to book. Long waiting times when calling, inconsistent responsiveness, and unprofessional conduct from some reception staff are recurring themes. Medication management issues also feature prominently, including delayed prescription authorisation, missing items from orders, and lack of proactive communication about medication changes.
Access barriers present another challenge, with the practice's same-day appointment policy limiting flexibility for patients with work commitments or complex scheduling needs. While some patients acknowledge that booking difficulties are typical across busy practices, others describe the experience as frustrating and unsustainable. The contrast between positive clinical feedback and negative reception experiences suggests that service quality varies significantly depending on which part of the practice patients interact with.

Excellent!
Dr Romberg's office felt surprisingly calm and bright
Outstanding initial appointment with Dr Romberg and his trainee doctor – they made me feel very welcome. The clinic itself is beautifully laid out with plenty of natural light, and every member of the team was friendly and accommodating.

Never seen the same doctor twice
I've spent my entire life in this community. Over the past few years, I've been unable to see the same physician on consecutive visits. The medical care provided to our town is utterly appalling. A doctor I've never encountered before recently revoked my ongoing medication prescription. I suffer from severely damaged lower back discs and a ruptured hip joint, which forced me to take eight months away from work during my surgical treatment. I received spinal injections and was even offered surgery given the severity of my condition. Now an unfamiliar doctor is pushing me to switch to an untried medication and discontinue the drug that has successfully controlled my pain and allowed me to remain employed. I plan to lodge a formal grievance against this doctor and escalate my concerns about the entire practice to the relevant regulatory bodies. Subsequently, I received a message from this GP stating he couldn't proceed with his original prescription after discovering it would have dangerously interacted with my current medication. Did he truly exercise proper care and diligence in his role? Surely he should have reviewed my medical history before suggesting any new drugs? A dreadful establishment.

Can't book ahead when you're in pain
According to their policy, appointments can only be scheduled on the same day you call—they don't offer advance bookings for future dates. I mentioned that my partner is experiencing severe pain and requires urgent care, but since he's employed, he needs to inform his employer beforehand about when he'll need to leave early for the appointment. He's unable to simply request time off on short notice. Unfortunately, they refused to accommodate an appointment on any other weekday, leaving my partner still suffering from his condition.

Dr. Durcan and Dr. Romberg actually listen
Excellent medical care delivered by truly compassionate physicians, particularly Dr. Durcan and Dr. Romberg who are exceptional in their field. Scheduling appointments can be somewhat challenging, though given present circumstances this is reasonable, if not ideal. Nevertheless, it remains an outstanding medical practice.

they removed his medication with no warning
My husband switched to this practice just under a month ago and has already decided to leave. The surgery removed his medication from his repeat prescriptions without any prior notice, which is completely unacceptable. He transferred his records over and requested his standard ADHD medication within the appropriate timeframe, but it was denied with no explanation provided. When he resubmitted the request, still within the correct window, it was rejected again. I called the following day on his behalf and was told they hadn't received the shared care documentation, despite this information being part of the medical records transferred to them. He should have been informed about this the next day. Fortunately, I contacted his mental health team, who saw him immediately, dispensed the medication, and arranged to send all necessary paperwork to the GP surgery beforehand. That afternoon came the message he should have received the previous day, stating he needed to consult with the shared care provider before they could continue his prescription. When he checked the NHS app, he found his medication had been removed from his repeat prescription list without any justification. He was following the exact procedures the GP surgery had outlined with his shared care provider. This unnecessary situation has caused him considerable distress, and given that he has autism and ADHD, it was deeply upsetting. The removal was entirely avoidable since shared care was already liaising with the surgery about his ongoing prescription. Additionally, we're travelling soon and need the medication listed on his repeat prescriptions to take it abroad. Due to this poor service and lack of communication, we're switching GP surgeries immediately, and the process will be complicated by the fact that his medication has been deleted from his records.

Staff really understood my health condition
I relocated to this area twelve months ago and signed up with Herrington Medical Centre. I had some concerns given my chronic health condition, as my previous doctor in Yorkshire had been exceptionally supportive and compassionate. However, my anxieties were immediately eased following my initial appointment at Herrington Medical Centre. The entire team, including receptionists, nursing staff, and physicians, are wonderfully friendly and approachable. Booking appointments does require some promptness and diligence, though this is typical across most medical practices.

Staff really does care despite the pressure
It's disappointing to read so much criticism directed at the team members. In my experience, I've consistently encountered the staff and medical professionals to be courteous, respectful, and competent in all my interactions, whether by phone or in person. While they don't always manage to resolve issues straight away, they demonstrate genuine dedication and effort despite the challenging conditions created by the NHS's ongoing financial constraints.

Been a patient here for 25 years
I've experienced no problems during my 25-year tenure as a patient. Admittedly, booking an appointment can be challenging since they're as busy as most medical practices. That said, both the administrative and clinical teams have consistently demonstrated professionalism and competence. Additionally, some of these reviews appear to be directed at the adjoining pharmacy rather than the surgery itself... these are distinct establishments.

doctors here actually listen to you
The physicians at this medical practice are outstanding. Throughout the past decade, I've received exceptional care that I truly appreciate. I'm relocating to a different area and would love to continue as a patient here if I could. The doctors treat you as an individual and engage in genuine conversation rather than following a scripted, impersonal approach.

pharmacist was rude to me today
The service here is absolutely appalling. The pharmacist displays zero patience and treats customers with a shocking lack of respect. I've been a loyal customer at this medical practice for years, and the quality has only deteriorated. As someone who works in customer service myself, I can tell you that speaking to people this way is completely unacceptable and unprofessional!

receptionist keeps getting orders wrong
This practice has consistently underperformed, and conditions have deteriorated significantly over the last twelve months. The front desk staff frequently makes errors when handling patient details, stock items have been discontinued due to low usage rates (apparently to reduce expenses for unused products), despite patients having already paid for prescriptions in full. When items aren't accessible through their online ordering system, patients are told to purchase them elsewhere online instead. Following my most recent experience, I switched to a different provider and would recommend others do the same. It's ironic that their voicemail claims they're committed to patient care when the reality tells a different story.

No nurses on site and appointments get cancelled
This medical facility is terrible – they don't have any nursing staff available. Additionally, whenever the physician isn't present, they'll simply cancel your appointment without bothering to suggest another option. If you're seeking to find a new doctor, I'd recommend going somewhere else.

staff helped me in my own language
Hi, I want to start by expressing my gratitude to the entire staff and medical professionals. Each visit is greeted with warmth and excellent care, despite the language barrier I face. Tonight, when I came in to schedule an appointment for my child, the receptionist was kind enough to translate and communicate with me in my native language. This gesture truly touched my heart and made me feel welcomed and valued. I'm incredibly grateful for their friendly and compassionate service💐

receptionist's condescension left me without weekend medication
A few of the staff members working reception at this clinic could benefit from training on how to treat patients with respect. They neglected to arrange one of my medications, which should have arrived with my other prescriptions this month. My daughter brought them in after finishing work, so I didn't notice the missing item until later in the day. Instead of showing any compassion, the receptionist was quite rude and dismissive when I called. I told her I couldn't manage over the weekend without that particular medication, but her only suggestions were to call 111, dial 999, or go to the emergency room—this was just after 4.40pm. I phoned 111 and they directed me to the pharmacy, who said the doctor would need to authorise it and they couldn't do anything. When I called the surgery back, the receptionist made me feel foolish by mentioning she'd reviewed the earlier conversation, and rather than arranging a quick chat with a doctor to resolve it, she just repeated the same unhelpful options. The medication was eventually released after 6pm, but now I'm unable to collect it until Monday!? I'd like to identify the staff member involved, but I prefer to take the high road.

Can't get past the rude receptionists here
Dealing with this place has been a nightmare. The vast majority of the front desk personnel appear to believe their primary job is to be uncooperative and hostile. That said, the physicians themselves are excellent, but the reception team creates barriers that prevent you from actually reaching the doctors.

Getting an appointment here's become impossible
Our physicians used to be excellent before the pandemic—I would have rated them 10 stars. However, scheduling an appointment has become incredibly frustrating now. I called yesterday and was instructed to phone back today, so I rang at 8:30 sharp, only to be informed five minutes later that all appointments were already booked. It seems there were only 3 doctors working that day 🙄
