Patient Experience Summary

Feedback on this practice reflects a mixed experience with distinct patterns across clinical and administrative services. Physicians are consistently praised for compassionate care, clinical expertise, and responsiveness, with many patients reporting positive experiences during consultations and urgent care situations. However, appointment access presents a significant challenge, with patients frequently describing difficult booking processes, limited availability, restricted time slots, and phone system issues that create barriers to scheduling. Reception experience is similarly polarised, with some patients noting helpful and welcoming staff while others report discourtesy and unhelpful interactions.

Communication failures emerge as a recurring concern, including unclear guidance about appointment procedures, gaps between reception and clinical staff information, and administrative obstacles affecting referral processes. Long waiting times for phone consultations and in-person appointments are mentioned across multiple reviews. Despite these administrative difficulties, patients with established relationships at the practice often express strong confidence in the medical care received, suggesting that once access is achieved, clinical quality is generally high.

The practice appears to face capacity pressures that impact service consistency. While urgent care is sometimes delivered efficiently, routine appointment availability remains constrained, and the booking system creates frustration for patients attempting to access non-emergency services. Service standards vary noticeably between individual staff members and across different interactions.

Frustrating booking system for a sick child

The scheduling approach of "ring us back tomorrow at 8:30am" is utterly frustrating and could easily push anyone to their breaking point. This method is completely ineffective. It's challenging enough to find a moment to make a call, let alone having to repeat the process multiple times. Their online platform is equally ridiculous, permitting bookings only one day in advance. Absolutely futile! Throughout my young daughter's medical situation last autumn, I consulted three separate physicians who each provided conflicting diagnoses and treatment plans. Regrettably, Highgate Group Practice epitomizes the fundamental problems within the NHS. However, I must acknowledge that Dr's Gandhi and Cole are truly exceptional!

Nightmare at the front desk

If I could rate this lower than zero, I absolutely would. The front desk personnel are a complete disaster, taking forever to transfer you and ultimately just telling you to call back. This establishment desperately needs to replace its entire staff or seriously consider shutting down completely. The customer service is so abysmal that you'd receive more professional treatment from a corner convenience store.

Quick Appointment, Caring Doctors at HGP

I've been a patient at HGP for two and a half years, and the physicians have been exceptionally caring, showing authentic concern and carefully listening to my health concerns. Scheduling a consultation was always convenient and prompt when necessary. The sole drawback is their appointment scheduling process, which can feel somewhat complicated. Their availability is restricted to specific time slots.

Frustrating Doctor Visit with No Real Help

I've attempted to contact the clinic multiple times to schedule an appointment, and when I finally saw the doctor, they only performed basic checks and provided minimal advice. They refused to prescribe any medication like antibiotics or Amoxicillin, and simply told me to return if I start coughing up blood. In my experience, all general practitioners in the UK seem to follow the same approach, reluctant to provide treatment until a patient's condition becomes critically serious.

Decades of Caring Doctors at This Practice

Throughout my decades-long experience with this medical practice, the physicians consistently demonstrate exceptional compassion and support. In nearly 30 years, I've encountered just one unsatisfactory interaction with a doctor, which was quite some time ago. Scheduling appointments is typically very convenient, with availability matching patient preferences. While the front desk personnel can occasionally be somewhat abrupt and may come across as discourteous, they generally maintain a high level of professional efficiency. Based on feedback I've heard about other healthcare facilities, this practice stands out as truly outstanding.
