Patient Experience Summary

Feedback on this practice reflects a distinctly mixed experience, with significant operational challenges contrasting sharply with positive clinical care. The most consistent concern across reviews centres on appointment access, with patients reporting persistent difficulties reaching the practice by phone at 8am, lengthy waiting times to connect, and rapid depletion of available slots. Reception communication has emerged as a particular area of concern, with multiple reports of unhelpful, dismissive, or discourteous interactions when patients attempt to book appointments or discuss urgent needs. Prescription processing delays and medication errors have also been highlighted as problematic, with some patients experiencing gaps in essential medications due to administrative failures.

Conversely, clinical care from doctors and nursing staff receives substantial praise, with patients consistently commending their professional expertise, compassion, and attentiveness. Many long-standing patients express confidence in the medical professionals and appreciate thorough explanations of their conditions. The practice environment is generally described as clean and well-maintained, and several patients note that once they secure an appointment, they receive responsive and supportive care. However, the significant barriers to accessing appointments and the administrative difficulties mean that for many patients, the quality of clinical care is undermined by frustration with the booking system and reception experience.

Excellent!

Trustworthy family doctor for decades

I've been a patient of Dr. Kumar for over a quarter-century, and I wouldn't consider switching primary care physicians for any reason. Throughout the years, he has consistently been an excellent doctor for both my children and myself. The entire medical team, including the nurses and support staff, has always been incredibly helpful and supportive. :)

Can't get an appointment to save life

The medical practice is a complete nightmare when it comes to booking appointments. Attempting to schedule a slot is an exercise in futility - you'll spend hours from early morning repeatedly dialing, only to find all appointments are already taken by the time you finally get through. This frustrating scenario has happened to me multiple times. Dr. Abby was the one bright spot during my experiences here, showing some competence and professionalism. In stark contrast, another female physician with Asian background was incredibly unhelpful and seemed impatient, giving the clear impression she had more important things to do than address my concerns. I cannot in good conscience recommend this healthcare facility to anyone seeking reliable medical care.

Excellent!

Quick same-day appointments every time

I've been a patient at Highwoods surgery for over a decade, and my experience has been consistently excellent. Their morning phone lines open precisely at 8:00 am, and without fail, we've always secured same-day appointments, typically in the morning hours. Throughout two significant medical issues, we've made monthly visits, and each condition was promptly identified and treated superbly at Colchester General. The medical staff are fantastic when approached with respect and a bit of friendly humor. While my friends at other practices complain about waiting weeks for appointments, I find their frustrations unwarranted. My advice? Appreciate the quality of care here or explore alternative options—though you'll be hard-pressed to find better service.

Bad!

Frustrating morning trying to schedule surgery

The clinic desperately requires an improved telephone infrastructure that allows callers to wait in a queue when dialing at 8 AM, rather than forcing patients to repeatedly attempt contact, only to be informed that no appointments are available until 3:10 PM.

Bad!

Terrible wait with zero communication

Appalling customer service. The front desk staff directs you upstairs without any warning about the doctor's delay (they've never once provided proper communication about wait times). More than half an hour past the scheduled appointment, and not a single word of regret or explanation. Utterly unacceptable, especially given that we're the ones funding their salaries.
