Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reflects a mixed experience with significant operational challenges alongside pockets of positive care. Appointment access remains the most pressing concern, with patients reporting persistent difficulties reaching the practice by phone, lengthy waiting times during call attempts, and limited availability of same-day or next-day slots. The online booking system and e-consultation platform frequently show no available appointments, forcing patients to rely on callback services that experience substantial delays. Prescription processing has emerged as a recurring issue, with patients reporting multi-week waits and repeated failures to fulfil repeat medication orders despite proper submission procedures.

Where the practice receives consistent praise is in the quality of clinical care and staff compassion when patients do gain access. Patients highlight responsive doctors, attentive nurses, and reception staff who demonstrate genuine care and support during consultations. Communication and listening skills are frequently commended, with several patients noting that staff take time to address concerns thoroughly. The practice environment is described as welcoming, and those who have successfully accessed services report feeling heard and supported through their healthcare journey.

The gap between access and care quality suggests systemic capacity constraints rather than individual staff failings. Patients acknowledge the pressures facing NHS services but express frustration that these barriers prevent timely medical attention, particularly for urgent or mental health concerns. Feedback indicates that improving appointment availability, phone system responsiveness, and prescription turnaround times would substantially enhance the overall patient experience.

Terrible customer service that wastes your time

Pope of Rome's customer service is painfully slow. I've been on hold for almost half an hour with no resolution in sight. Their low 2.8 rating clearly indicates ongoing issues, yet they seem completely indifferent to customer experience.

Frustrating healthcare experience with zero communication

Attempting to contact the medical practice proves futile as phone calls go unanswered, making scheduling an appointment seemingly impossible. I attempted an online consultation, meticulously completing all required information, only to be instructed to telephone the surgery. Predictably, no one picks up the phone. At this point, it appears the Accident & Emergency department at the nearby hospital is the sole viable option for medical assistance.

Frustrating prescription delay and poor communication

Trying to get a repeat prescription from the hospital has been a nightmare. Over 10 days, I made 4 phone calls, and still no medication - I'm down to my last 2 tablets today. What a complete mess. I was told to get a blood pressure check over a week ago, and it's clear they don't know what they're doing. Now they want a blood test before my next appointment - let's see how long this drags on. The stress is unreal. Their phone system is useless, with 30-40 minute wait times. Someone needs to review their system, as they seem totally incompetent. Where are the good doctors who used to care about patients? Now we're stuck with receptionists and pharmacists who think they know more than doctors. They're causing more harm than good. However, after speaking with the practice manager about my issues and hearing they're updating their phone system, and having a conversation with the pharmacist, I've changed my view. They are actually nice people. The only improvement needed is better patient communication, and then these problems wouldn't arise. Overall, they do care, and I'm thankful to the staff, manager, and pharmacist.

Terrible medical service left patient feeling frustrated

Expecting a sick note for my pregnant daughter, I submitted an online request since no GP appointments were available. It's been five days now, and I'm still waiting. Despite filing a complaint, the practice continues to disregard my request, leaving me frustrated and unheard.

Compassionate care through my challenging hip journey

The medical practice is a bustling facility with a substantial patient roster. This reflects solely my personal encounter. I was grappling with excruciating hip discomfort that ultimately necessitated a complete hip replacement. I consulted with Siobahn (hoping I've spelled her name correctly) who facilitated my referral, and yesterday, the procedure was successfully completed. I am immensely grateful to her and the entire staff (special mentions to Clare, Sue, Bev, and my apologies if I've overlooked anyone else). This gratitude extends to all the Doctors, Nurses, and support personnel. While they may not achieve perfection in every instance, their commitment to assisting patients is unwavering. I recognize that patient access systems are not of their direct creation and can indeed be frustrating, but the practice has consistently cared for my family, which is all I could reasonably request. My heartfelt thanks to everyone involved.

Worst medical service ever completely useless

Attempting to contact them by phone is futile; you'll waste nearly an hour only to be turned away without treatment. They'll redirect you to a walk-in clinic, claiming they exclusively offer online consultations. Essentially, this medical practice avoids seeing patients in person altogether.

Negligent care left me hospitalized and ignored

I attempted to schedule an appointment last Friday afternoon, only to be informed that no slots were available. Having just been discharged from Fazakerley hospital, I urgently required medication for an infection, which I explained to the receptionist. She instructed me to complete an e-consultation form for the doctor to review. I diligently uploaded my discharge letter as documentation of my hospital visit. Ultimately, my condition deteriorated, forcing me to return to Fazakerley hospital's A&E with a severe diverticulitis infection, where I was hospitalized on intravenous treatment for four days. Despite this serious medical situation, I have yet to receive any communication from the GP. Given my known medical history, which the surgery is fully aware of, this lack of response is completely unacceptable. I am seriously considering filing a complaint with the General Medical Council. If it were possible, I would gladly assign a score of ZERO to this experience.

Fantastic doctors who truly care about patient needs

I've been a patient at this medical practice for more than two decades, and scheduling appointments has always been smooth. Whether I'm requesting a slot or following up, I've never encountered any difficulties. When I received my diagnosis four years ago, I was genuinely surprised and touched that my doctor personally contacted the hospital on my behalf. The reception staff have consistently been courteous and supportive. They aren't supernatural beings, just hardworking professionals managing complex tasks. They handle tremendous pressure with grace and deserve recognition for their dedication.

Terrible service from unhelpful and unprofessional staff

Absolutely appalling service at the front desk, with employees displaying a complete lack of professionalism and assistance. They adamantly refused to provide a sick note for my absence, despite a history of previously obtaining such documentation at no cost, and attempted to impose an unnecessary £15 fee. I cannot stress enough how strongly I advise against using their services.

Terrible medical practice with frustrating phone system

I'm forced to call for a triage callback just to determine my medical needs, and this can only happen before 12:30 - it's ridiculous how far this practice has fallen. Every single month, the quality of service deteriorates further. The receptionists are constantly arguing with walk-in centre nurses over the phone, refusing to provide appointments and pushing patients to alternative services. You're completely blocked from seeing a doctor without first receiving a callback. How on earth is someone like a professional driver supposed to get medical attention? I require a flu vaccination and need to discuss medication adjustments, so I'd prefer handling everything in one visit. I might even be able to resolve my medication issues via phone, but they're inflexible about speaking with patients outside their narrow morning window. Why are they so obsessed with online services when they clearly have at least three receptionists staffed at all times? Perhaps they forget that not everyone can sit by a phone all day due to work constraints...

Lifesaving care when i needed it most

I am deeply grateful to the entire team for their assistance on Thursday morning when I was feeling absolutely terrible. The staff were incredibly caring and responsive - after my call, they promptly scheduled me for an appointment that same afternoon. I've never experienced such severe tonsillitis before; I was genuinely concerned it might have been quinsy, though fortunately it wasn't. To the receptionist (whose name I think might be Sue), thank you for sitting with me and providing such compassionate support. ❤️ It's now Saturday, and I'm definitely recovering well x
