Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a practice with significant operational challenges alongside pockets of excellent clinical care. Appointment access remains the most persistent concern, with patients reporting lengthy waiting periods ranging from weeks to months, phone lines that are difficult to reach during morning booking windows, and frustration with the transition away from online booking systems. Reception experience is mixed, with some patients praising courteous and helpful staff, while others describe dismissive, discourteous, or unhelpful interactions. Communication gaps are evident, particularly around appointment policies, prescription reviews, and follow-up procedures, leaving patients uncertain about next steps.

When patients do access clinical care, many report genuinely positive experiences. Doctors are frequently described as compassionate, attentive, and professionally competent, with several patients expressing particular appreciation for specific practitioners. Nursing staff are similarly praised for their warmth and skill. However, these clinical strengths are substantially undermined by the access difficulties that precede them. Patients express frustration that reaching this quality of care requires persistence and often involves multiple failed attempts to book appointments.

The practice appears to be struggling with capacity and organisational efficiency rather than clinical competence. Issues include insufficient staffing, problematic booking systems, and inconsistent responsiveness to patient needs. While some patients remain loyal and satisfied, others have chosen to transfer their care elsewhere, citing the appointment access experience as the deciding factor despite acknowledging the quality of the doctors themselves.

Terrible service and rude staff at medical practice

You might as well directly visit Kingsmill hospital, given the dismissive attitude of that dreadful receptionist (who apparently believes she has medical credentials!) This is hands-down the most appalling healthcare practice I've encountered in my 67 years. I'm actively seeking to switch practices, as recommended by a consultant at Kingsmill!

Terrible practice with impossible appointment booking system

What an absolute farce this clinic is! Attempting to book an appointment at 8am is a futile exercise as you're constantly met with an unresponsive phone line. After endlessly dialing 80 times (and that's no exaggeration), by 8:20am all available slots have vanished. I've been desperately trying to secure an appointment for 2 ENTIRE MONTHS now. Today marks my breaking point, and I'm definitively switching practices. I'm not typically someone who leaves reviews, but I strongly advise anyone against even attempting to engage with this place if you genuinely want medical attention. Implement a functional booking system - it's truly not rocket science! Compared to my partner's medical practice, where you can schedule an appointment at any time and speak directly with available staff without mandatory callback hassles, this current setup is embarrassingly ineffective. Why on earth are you persisting with a system that so blatantly fails patients?!

Frustrating healthcare experience with poor communication

On June 9th, I received my B12 shot and shared a medical concern with the nurse. I was instructed to schedule an in-person consultation, but surprisingly, it transformed into a telephone appointment set for July 6th. Additionally, on the 8th, I was directed to the Emergency Department for an issue that could have easily been handled by a general practitioner. The A&E staff are overwhelmed, largely due to GPs continuously redirecting patients. I'm puzzled why a doctor hasn't clarified the rationale behind avoiding face-to-face consultations, especially when my daughter and a friend's medical practices readily offer in-person appointments.

Poor!

Worst booking system ever for working professionals

After countless attempts to reach someone, I finally connected with the receptionist, only to be informed that no appointments were available for the day and advised to try again tomorrow, and this was at 8:19am. As someone who works Sunday to Thursday on night and afternoon shifts, I finished around 3am and stayed awake until 8 specifically to secure an appointment. Now it's 9am, and I'm heading to bed before returning to work at 3pm to drive a 44-ton lorry for 420 miles on merely 4-5 hours of sleep. Living alone means I have no one to help me schedule an appointment. The booking system has become completely ridiculous for working individuals. It used to be excellent when it first launched, offering extended hours and weekend availability, but that's no longer the case, and I can't understand why.

Unacceptable wait time for urgent medical concern

I recently called to schedule an appointment due to an extremely painful and swollen knee. The earliest available slot they offered was a telephone consultation on April 1st.... which is a full 5 weeks from now. It seems absurd that I would need to wait until the issue potentially resolves itself before getting any medical attention. Moreover, it's just a phone consultation - how can a healthcare professional possibly evaluate my condition accurately without a physical examination? I'm thoroughly disappointed with this level of service, especially given my 46 years of experience working within the NHS, and I had anticipated receiving much more comprehensive care.

Terrible service and unprofessional medical care

Awaiting a callback for an appointment, I encountered a challenging situation. During an urgent call coinciding with a doctor's call, I promptly returned their contact. The nurse informed me they would not call back, insisting on a single call and advising me to call the next day. After numerous frustrating phone interactions, I finally received a callback, highlighting the absence of clear communication on the GP website about their call policy. I secured an appointment for Monday (from a Thursday call), and my son received antibiotics for a chest infection, complicated by his asthma. He could have been treated three days earlier. Adding insult to injury, the nurse belittled my son, calling him a baby for struggling to swallow tablets. I've filed a complaint. If you're seeking a medical practice where you must constantly battle for basic care, this is the place for you.

Terrible healthcare experience with unhelpful nurse practitioner

Hoping you have patience if you're scheduled with the nurse practitioner on duty today. They seem completely disinterested in hearing anything patients have to say. After calling the health advice line last night, I was directed to visit a general practitioner this morning - what a waste of time. Might as well have saved myself the trouble and remained at home.

Terrible service from unhelpful and negligent gp surgery

Absolutely appalling service! The front desk staff act like they're medical experts when answering calls. They consistently push patients towards the emergency department instead of scheduling direct consultations. It's clear why hospital emergency rooms are overwhelmed - primary care clinics are failing to properly manage their patient load. They're also unreliable about returning calls when you're waiting for a callback.

Nightmare doctors surgery with terrible prescription service

Utterly appalling medical practice! I'm constantly battling to obtain my essential skin medication every single month. When I attempt to collect my prescription from the pharmacy, it's mysteriously absent. Upon contacting the surgery, I discover I need a review that was never communicated to me beforehand. They suggest booking a review to receive my prescription, but when I follow up the next day, I'm informed the request has been denied because my scheduled review is nearly two weeks away. My skin condition will deteriorate significantly during this period, potentially forcing me to take sick leave from my hospital job due to the condition affecting my hands. I requested to speak directly with a GP, which was categorically refused - something that happens frequently at this practice. The chances of actually speaking to a doctor here are incredibly slim. I am absolutely resolute about transferring to a different medical practice and would strongly caution anyone against registering with this incompetent surgery.

Dangerous vaccination process endangers vulnerable elderly patients

I'm deeply frustrated by the vaccination process for my parents, which involved crowded lines both outside and inside the hospital, with absolutely no regard for social distancing protocols. The organizational incompetence was appalling! After nine months of carefully shielding themselves, a single hospital visit exposed them to significant health risks that were entirely preventable. Our entire family is outraged by this unacceptable situation that should never have been allowed to occur.

Lifesaving care for my son at kings mill

I received a quick telephone consultation with a physician concerning my child, who demonstrated genuine care and immediately communicated with the surgical specialists at Kings Mill. He directed us to the emergency department, where my son was expedited and underwent surgery within a few hours. This swift and efficient response was entirely due to the GP's expertise, and we are immensely grateful for his professional approach.

If you're flexible about which physician you see and are willing to call early in the morning to schedule, you can typically secure an appointment. While I personally prefer continuity with the same doctor, the practice is generally accommodating if you're willing to call at 8am sharp.
