GP forgot my referral for an entire year

Deeply frustrating experience. My doctor claimed to have submitted a referral to the Cambridge University clinical school support services over a year ago when I desperately required assistance. After a month had passed, I followed up to confirm the referral was processed and received confirmation that it was. I assumed the welfare team was simply stretched thin. Upon contacting my GP twelve months later, she revealed the referral had never actually been submitted. This significantly harmed my medical school experience and prevented me from accessing the help I needed. Additionally, my GP demonstrated poor clinical skills, failing to detect an irregular heart sound and lacking proficiency in proper cardiac examination techniques. Fortunately, a different GP I encountered during my placement elsewhere encouraged me to pursue further investigation, which led to my eventual diagnosis. I cannot in good conscience endorse this medical practice.

The online platform at this GP practice is decent, which is the only positive aspect. Beyond that, this GP is incredibly disappointing. - They're perfectly fine keeping you waiting 30-40 minutes, yet if you're running late, your appointment—which you've been waiting months to get—will simply be cancelled - They hold you responsible for their failure to properly monitor your test results as your healthcare provider.

I'm posting this as a cautionary note for service members considering this GP practice. They proved entirely ineffective at retrieving my veteran medical records, even after I provided clear guidance and repeatedly followed up over many months. They actually disputed my instructions regarding the procedure, despite having a document that explicitly detailed the correct request method. It took 2 years of persistence before they finally submitted the records request, and then those documents languished in a backlog for several months waiting to be digitised. I've since relocated and switched to a different GP, so I'm uncertain whether they ever actually finished the task. In my experience, the administrative team was fragmented and poorly coordinated throughout my attempts to get answers, with staff members seemingly unaware of actions their colleagues had already taken.

My partner's appointment was delayed by over half an hour, forcing him to leave without being seen. He checked with the front desk twice to find out what was causing the hold-up, yet despite other patients being attended to promptly, staff couldn't provide any estimated wait time. Before departing, he requested that reception schedule him for the next available slot since he had another commitment, but the system only recorded it as a cancellation rather than a rebooking. Now he's stuck waiting until after the weekend to try securing another appointment. I really wish he could switch to my GP practice—they would never allow something like this to happen.

Dr. Waters made me feel genuinely cared for

I've resided in Cambridge for the past 3 years before relocating to London several weeks back. I'd like to strongly suggest Landsfield GP in Cambridge to anyone moving to the area. The staff are compassionate and consistently strive to deliver excellent care. It was my second GP practice in Cambridge, and I experienced outstanding support throughout my time there. I'm particularly grateful for Dr. Waters—she's absolutely wonderful. Should you be new to Cambridge, I'd definitely encourage you to look into this practice!

Scheduling an appointment presents unnecessary difficulties - phone bookings aren't available, requiring you to complete an online form instead, and appointments can only be reserved during specific windows (far from their full business hours). If the system happens to be disabled, you're forced to wait for it to become active again. After mentioning this issue to the receptionist, I was told I could seek care elsewhere and that their physicians preferred this arrangement. It leaves you with the sense that patient satisfaction isn't a priority for them.

I appreciate their booking system, which typically gets me seen promptly, though appointments lose their value when the practice fails to locate or enter a referral into their records. The purpose of seeing a doctor is often to facilitate the next step—in my situation, a visit to the Boots audiology service. I now face the burden of tracking down a replacement copy of the missing paperwork, creating extra work for myself, Boots, and potentially requiring yet another appointment to receive a proper GP evaluation. I wouldn't raise this concern if it were isolated, but it's happened multiple times. During the pandemic, the practice neglected to file a mammogram report they received, and their system incorrectly showed the appointment never occurred. When I asked them to contact the mammogram clinic to verify, they declined. I had to make the call myself, and while they confirmed my attendance, they refused to resend the documentation to the practice. This poor coordination between healthcare providers regarding the mammogram, combined with inadequate record management in both situations, deserves only 2 stars. The consequences extend beyond my inconvenience and uncertainty about whether my health concern was properly reviewed. Other professionals waste time retrieving and resending information, incurring unnecessary costs across the system. Administrative failures in one department create financial ripples throughout healthcare. The issue isn't simply funding—it's about preventing preventable expenses elsewhere. The administrative processes urgently require greater efficiency and organisation.

Doctors who actually make time for chronic pain

This is the finest medical practice I've encountered. I suffer from persistent back pain that frequently causes flare-ups, and I often hesitate to schedule appointments because I recognize it's a chronic muscular issue and understand that other patients have more pressing health concerns. However, every single doctor I've interacted with has demonstrated genuine care and consistently reassured me by saying "we're here to help you feel better". At my previous practice, I'd typically need to wait a week or more for an appointment (once waiting 10 days), and by the time a slot became available, my condition would either have deteriorated requiring additional care, or I'd resort to seeing a private doctor to resolve it myself. With Lensfield, the team consistently prioritizes getting patients in quickly, and even when they're stretched thin, they make sure to reach out and have a conversation with you. The entire staff—receptionists, nurses, and doctors alike—are absolutely wonderful!
