Patient Experience Summary

Feedback on this GP practice reveals a deeply divided patient experience, with significant concerns dominating the overall picture. Appointment access emerges as the most persistent issue, with patients reporting extreme difficulty securing consultations through both online booking systems and telephone contact, often involving extended wait times and system failures. Reception experience varies considerably, with some patients praising courteous and helpful staff while others describe dismissive, unhelpful, or hostile interactions. Communication challenges are widespread, including unresponsive follow-up, poor information provision, and difficulties reaching the practice by phone.

Medical care quality shows marked contrast, with many patients commending professional and compassionate doctors, nurses, and dispensary staff, while others report inadequate clinical assessments, lack of responsiveness to urgent needs, and insufficient follow-up care. Specific concerns include delayed diagnoses, reluctance to provide face-to-face appointments, and gaps in continuity of care. Facility issues such as parking difficulties and cleanliness concerns are noted by some patients.

Positive feedback highlights efficient service through alternative booking methods, professional medical staff, and supportive reception teams in certain interactions. However, the volume and consistency of complaints about appointment availability, reception courtesy, communication responsiveness, and follow-up care suggest systemic operational challenges that significantly impact patient experience across the practice.

Excellent!

Quick and efficient medical support online

I utilized the Patchs service today to address a current health issue. After completing the online form, I promptly received a same-day appointment confirmation via email within an hour. The service was exceptional. Having been a patient at Longfields surgery for two decades, and particularly relying on their care extensively over the past five years, I can confidently say they consistently deliver outstanding medical support. Kudos to their team.

Great!

Exceptional healthcare with caring and compassionate staff

I've been a patient at Longfield for years, and their online booking system for patches is fantastic - I've even managed to get my elderly father comfortable using it. The telephone consultations for medication reviews are convenient, and every staff member I've encountered has been incredibly helpful. On numerous occasions, they've truly gone the extra mile to support both myself and my family. I genuinely appreciate Longfield and how their evolving services have simplified healthcare for me and my parents.

Poor!

Terrible service causing unnecessary stress and anxiety

My interactions with this healthcare provider have been incredibly aggravating. The phone wait times are excessively long, making communication difficult. My medication remains unchanged, and my physician continues to mark me as "patient informed" in the online system despite never actually communicating with me or providing any meaningful follow-up. Additionally, a receptionist misled me about scheduling a nurse consultation. These repeated failures are detrimental to my mental well-being and overall health management, leaving me deeply distressed and frustrated.

Average!

Friendly staff but terrible phone service nightmare

Edit: in-person service has significantly improved! Zero wait time, and the staff members were courteous, pleasant, and highly professional! The only downside is their telephone communication system, which falls short of expectations. 1st post: As a recent newcomer to the area, I attempted to contact the medical practice to arrange my patient transfer. Astonishingly, I was left waiting on hold for a staggering 90 minutes! Initially positioned behind more than 30 callers, I remained in 12th place when I ultimately had to abandon the call due to other commitments. This situation is utterly unacceptable! What's even more frustrating is that the alternative medical facility exhibits identical communication issues. This is absolutely ridiculous! One can only imagine the complications if someone were to require urgent medical attention.

Terrible medical care leaves patient frustrated and angry

Absolutely revolting! My partner suffered from a severe infection and was informed no more consultations were available on Monday at 9am - Seriously? Calling 111 was futile as the lines were completely jammed. We ultimately had to shell out £25 for antibiotics, which she received quickly...a disgraceful level of care.

Longfields medical practice disappoints after years of service

Every critical comment about this place is spot on, unfortunately 😣 I've been a patient at Longfields since I was born, and the quality has seriously deteriorated. I'm pointing the finger at government policies! My advice is to contact NHS 111 instead - you'll encounter far fewer bureaucratic obstacles.

Terrible service and frustrating medical practice nightmare

This medical practice has seriously deteriorated. The partner physicians are perpetually unavailable. Appointments are consistently delayed, and securing one is challenging at best. Today perfectly illustrated the ongoing issues: my 9:30 slot was already thirty minutes behind schedule, with another patient still waiting. If they're this far behind in the morning, I can only imagine the chaos by mid-afternoon. Whoever is managing this facility is clearly incompetent, and the entire operation is utterly ridiculous.

Impossible healthcare at maldon council frustrates patient

Maldon Council, it's time to address this ongoing issue. I dare any of you to attempt scheduling an appointment! I've been struggling for days to secure a medical consultation. When I finally managed to connect with someone, I was met with the frustrating response, "No appointments available, please try again tomorrow..."

Terrible service with kind staff at medical practice

Absolutely dreadful experience. While the front desk staff are friendly and accommodating, the service is unacceptable. Twice now my child has been overlooked, and I've been stuck on hold for an incredible two hours just trying to speak with a receptionist. I've never encountered a medical practice so disorganized and inefficient. They desperately need to increase their staff to manage phone communications - waiting two hours is completely ridiculous.

Negligent care nearly cost my daughter her health

It's no surprise the Emergency Departments are completely swamped right now. The service from this GP practice yesterday and today was absolutely appalling. I diligently followed Longfield Medical Centre's website guidelines for cold and flu symptoms, which instructed me to contact 111 for medical advice. A GP was then assigned, who completely ignored the crucial details in the 111 report. These details were critical: My daughter is 3 years old (which alone should have warranted at least a two-minute consultation). My daughter had been suffering from what I suspected was an infection, now confirmed as tonsillitis, for two weeks. Her condition had progressively worsened and deteriorated. Her temperature had escalated to 39.3 C (apparently irrelevant if it's not COVID-related) These are unmistakable signs that antibiotics were necessary. No medical degree is required to understand this. I received an extremely apologetic call from Longfield's reception, as the GP had deemed my 3-year-old daughter unworthy of a mere five-minute phone consultation! I was assured a callback within 24 hours to discuss her symptoms. Tragically, this was far too late, as my child's temperature continued rising, ultimately leading to a seizure and an ambulance trip to the hospital for tonsillitis treatment - on the same day I desperately pleaded with the receptionist to have the doctor reconsider, only to be told he was with a patient. I cannot comprehend why my daughter suffered such an ordeal, which could have been entirely prevented if the GP surgery wasn't so reluctant to see patients. And finally, the GP called us the next day at 15:01, by which time we had already obtained antibiotics through the hospital visit. They waited a full 24 hours before bothering to make contact. What purpose does a GP serve if they cannot provide help when it's most critical? This demonstrates a complete lack of compassion, and anyone lacking compassion has no business being a doctor. It's evidently become about maximizing time and money, rather than caring for people.

Incompetent medical form service wastes my time

Utterly appalling service from start to finish. I shelled out money for a medical certificate for a firearm permit, and they botched the paperwork completely. I have email evidence where they openly acknowledged their mistake. They promised to correct the form, but after another month and a half of waiting, they simply resent the exact same incorrect document, with the original incorrect date still intact. It's an absolute mockery of professional service.

Unhelpful staff leaves patient frustrated and disappointed

I arrived at the clinic early in the morning with a painful ear infection, hoping to get it checked before heading to work. When the staff finally came in at 7:30, I politely requested someone to examine my ear. Her initial response was complete silence, which made the situation incredibly uncomfortable. Eventually, she coldly stated that they open at 8. I tried explaining that I didn't need a formal appointment and that a quick check would be swift, but she remained dismissive, repeating that they don't handle consultations at the front desk. This experience has left me deeply frustrated with the current healthcare system. I'm so disillusioned that I'm now hoping for privatization of the NHS, as it seems government employees have no genuine concern for patients' needs. The entire interaction has made me extremely hesitant about scheduling any future medical appointments.

Terrible service and unprofessional staff attitude

The staff here are incredibly discourteous! I came to pick up a prescription at 12:55pm and was informed I needed to collect it from the dispensary, contrary to the text message I received. By 1:02pm, I went to the dispensary and knocked, only to discover they were closed for the next hour. For what reason??? There's absolutely no justification for shutting down for an entire hour. Other businesses manage their lunch breaks more effectively without completely closing down! The woman who answered the door was extremely hostile when I knocked and showed zero flexibility about making me wait an hour. As a self-employed professional, I understand the critical importance of customer service, which she clearly does not. Now I'm stuck wasting an entire hour sitting in my car, waiting. It would have been helpful to be informed about this group lunch break in advance. Following this experience and similar previous interactions, I'm definitely switching healthcare providers.

Compassionate doctor helps patient with hearing challenges

During my wife's appointment at Longfield medical, she consulted with Dr Ryan. Given her hearing impairment, which often makes communication challenging, my wife was impressed by Dr Ryan's patience and thoroughness. The doctor took extra care to clearly explain the recommended treatment, ensuring my wife fully understood her medical plan. We are both grateful for Dr Ryan's compassionate and attentive approach to her care.
