I have been attending this practice for three years now. As time has progressed, I have needed to visit more frequently. The reception team are exceptionally friendly, consistently cheerful and welcoming, and have developed a warm rapport with me. The clinical staff have been outstanding and have consistently supported me in identifying health concerns and arranging appropriate investigations. I have previously used practices in other areas and this one provides the best level of care I have experienced, along with making me feel genuinely valued as a patient. Thank you.

Longtown medical practice is a very welcoming and well-run surgery. It serves a wide geographical area and has adequate nursing staff available for procedures such as blood tests and blood pressure checks. Appointments to see a clinician can be arranged either through the online booking system or by telephone. At 8am, it is usually possible to obtain an appointment with a clinician, though it may not always be with your regular practitioner, though if you are unwell you can be seen by any available clinician.

This is a fantastic surgery. The staff, from reception through to clinical and administrative teams, are all friendly, professional and courteous. Nothing is ever treated as an inconvenience. They genuinely demonstrate care for their patients. Moving here from my previous practice was one of the best decisions I made! I was diagnosed with two conditions within weeks of registering here, after having my concerns dismissed for several years previously, when I was told my symptoms were not physical in nature. Thank you to everyone who works here, you are all fantastic!

I am genuinely grateful for the support they have provided throughout my time as a patient. I make an effort to use alternative services such as the pharmacy consultation option for minor viral complaints, as I recognise how stretched the practice is, though I suspect this service is not widely known about. However, whenever I have required the practice's direct involvement, they have responded with great professionalism and promptness. The community is fortunate to have such a dedicated and compassionate healthcare team locally, and the practice is genuinely invaluable to the area. They deserve far more recognition for the excellent work they do.

Felt genuinely listened to about my concerns

I wouldn't usually leave a comment, but I've just seen a review that has made me want to share my own experience, which is quite different. Following a specialist consultation, towards the end of last year I decided to try to reduce some of my medication. Due to the nature of my condition I felt significant anxiety at the prospect, so I made an appointment to discuss the best way forward. I explained my concerns and the clinician listened carefully. We agreed a plan and that I would attend appointments at regular intervals, or more frequently if I needed. The practice also arranged for a member of the pharmacy team to call me weekly to make sure I was ready for the next reduction in medication and to ensure I had the correct prescription each time. I would just like to say that I'm extremely grateful for the support both the clinician and the pharmacy team member have given to me.

Reception staff made prescription requests unnecessarily difficult

Upon joining this medical practice, my partner and I anticipated receiving individualised care. Unfortunately, this expectation was not met. We found the overall service to be substandard and disappointing. The practice appears to have fallen short of meeting patient needs and expectations. The approach to patient interaction and support does not reflect good customer service principles. We were concerned to learn that the senior clinical staff at the practice work reduced hours whilst receiving full-time salaries. When we questioned this arrangement, we were informed that the additional time is spent on administrative duties. This raised questions about whether such administrative responsibilities might be better suited to those with relevant qualifications in that field. Additionally, obtaining repeat prescriptions requires interaction with a staff member in the prescription department who adopts an unnecessarily defensive and dismissive tone when patients make requests. This individual appears to treat prescription requests as an imposition rather than a routine part of patient care. We would encourage prospective patients to carefully consider whether this practice meets their needs, as there are alternative surgeries in the area that may provide a more satisfactory experience.

Admin processes need serious improvement here

Not the practice it claims to be. The entire establishment maintains a rather relaxed approach, and the administrative side is particularly disappointing. This is merely one instance among several concerns. For example, a letter arrived from an external licensing authority regarding a renewal application in early July, yet by mid-September that same authority had still not received a response. The practice requires constant follow-up to ensure they communicate with other organisations. They appear remarkably skilled at providing explanations for delays.

Difficult to reach and unhelpful staff

I had a disappointing experience at this practice. The staff seemed unhappy and I found it difficult to get in touch. Communication through written correspondence was not straightforward. I would recommend considering other local practices that may better suit your needs.
