I'm thoroughly delighted with Manor Rd Surgery. The physicians are exceptional, especially Dr Ullah and Dr Zara (I apologize for not knowing her last name, but she is absolutely phenomenal). The reception staff are pure gold, consistently helpful, understanding, and flexible. Their provision of emergency appointments is something I've rarely encountered in other medical practices. They efficiently arranged specialist consultations for my daughter at Denmark Hill and for me at the Pruh, which significantly reduced my potential expenses with private healthcare. The waiting times were remarkably short. My sister was so impressed that she begged them to accept her as a patient, given her current GP practice is subpar. Unfortunately, they couldn't accommodate her due to her Croydon residence. I cannot emphasize enough how highly I recommend this practice. Only the most positive remarks for them!!

The medical staff at this practice demonstrate a consistently dismissive and condescending attitude, particularly towards patients who are not native English speakers. Over my two-year experience as a patient, I've encountered treatment that mirrors complaints from others from non-British backgrounds - if English isn't your first language, you're likely to be spoken down to, have your concerns minimized, and have inaccurate medical notes recorded. I endured a two-hour wait in urgent care while seriously unwell, directly resulting from physician associates at Manor Road Surgery previously dismissing my symptoms. When I formally complained about this experience, I discovered the examining physician associate had deliberately downplayed and misrepresented my medical condition. After indicating my intention to escalate the complaint to the Health Ombudsman and General Medical Council, I received a call from Dr Chowdhury, apparently a senior doctor, during which I felt patronized. Upon expressing this sentiment, I was met with aggressive behavior, with Dr Chowdhury raising his voice, demanding I "retract" my words, and suggesting I could leave the practice if dissatisfied. Reviewing numerous patient experiences, it appears positive interactions are predominantly reported by English/British patients - a fact I wish I'd known before registering here.

One clear observation is that the GPs are notably reluctant to provide referrals for second opinions from specialist care providers. I'm puzzled by their hesitation - patients should have the freedom to consult specialists, particularly when there are compelling reasons, which I firmly believe exist in my case. Despite this frustration, I'm thoroughly impressed with the patient access portal. It allows me complete access to my medical records and enables me to view blood test results typically within 48 hours of testing. I strongly encourage everyone to register for this service as it empowers patients to take control of their healthcare, with the added convenience of booking and cancelling appointments without enduring long phone queues. The GPs could significantly improve by being more attentive to patients' concerns, complaints, and anxieties, as effective communication is crucial. Actively listening to patients would resolve numerous issues. I must also praise the reception staff, who consistently perform admirably under incredibly stressful conditions. Having completed work experience at a medical practice previously, I gained valuable insight into the demanding nature of their role.

Google knows better than Dr. Holdsworth. I scheduled an appointment after experiencing peculiar symptoms and a delayed menstrual cycle following prenatal vitamin intake. Concerned about the symptoms, which included intense abdominal pain, and anxious about my period's potential normalization after a negative pregnancy test, I sought medical advice. When I mentioned our baby-planning efforts, the doctor's expression suggested a dismissive attitude towards "another immigrant wanting a child in this country" - unaware that I contribute taxes like any other citizen. Throughout the consultation, she offered nothing beyond what I'd already discovered through Google and even recommended the NHS website, which I had already thoroughly examined and whose information had guided my vitamin purchase. She seemingly attributed my symptoms and delayed period to mere expectations and anxiety - utterly ridiculous! Apparently, becoming a GP involves merely redirecting patients to online resources. I shared multiple details that were completely disregarded. I presented my comprehensive log of regular past menstrual cycles, which she didn't even glance at. My recommendation: skip the appointment and consult Google. Google demonstrates more expertise than someone who supposedly "studied to be here". An absolute squandering of time and public resources!! The sole star is awarded to the exceptionally courteous reception staff.

Terrible racist gp practice with awful customer service
I have encountered what is potentially the most terrible GP practice in my entire experience. The receptionists are incredibly rude and display racist behavior. After recently moving to Beckenham with my daughter, I visited this clinic to register us since it was the nearest medical practice, just a short 5-minute walk from our home. During my first visit, a receptionist handed me a form to complete and asked me to return the next day to finalize registration. When I returned the following day, the receptionist brazenly declared that she couldn't register my daughter and me because we were not on their map. It was evident she was deliberately avoiding registering us, constantly scrutinizing our passports and suggesting we seek registration at another GP surgery down the road. I have never felt so profoundly discriminated against before, and it is truly heartbreaking that we are being denied our fundamental right to access safe healthcare, which should be available to everyone.
