Modern building let down by limited services

Stunning new medical facility, reminiscent of a gleaming utopia. Unfortunately, due to budgetary constraints the available services frequently fall short of expectations and prove challenging to obtain. There is a sense that anything beyond minor ailments requires referral to secondary care facilities. This leaves patients feeling let down by the disparity between the impressive setting and actual service delivery. Such is the transient nature of things. A positive aspect is the presence of the attached pharmacy, which is genuinely appreciated and delivers a commendable standard of care, though it is situated somewhat further away than the nearest alternative in the town centre.

Dismissive approach left my daughter undiagnosed

I have experienced several issues at this practice. I attended with my young child following a call to 111 when my child became unwell. The clinician I saw displayed a dismissive attitude and lacked understanding of my child's presentation. They made a comment suggesting that sleepiness alone was not indicative of illness, and conducted only a brief examination. They then stated they had detected something on auscultation of the chest and prescribed antibiotics for a respiratory infection. I expressed concern about this recommendation given that my child had recently received the same medication for a similar condition just two weeks earlier. The clinician responded by suggesting I had been insistent on antibiotics during the previous visit, which was not accurate. Following this appointment, my child required multiple hospital admissions due to deteriorating respiratory symptoms and overall condition. Hospital staff subsequently identified a different diagnosis and indicated that a respiratory infection may not have been the underlying issue. Additionally, the medication prescribed was not appropriate for the actual condition my child had. As a result, I have transferred my care elsewhere and do not intend to return to this practice.

I have been a patient at this practice for many years, and over the last four years or so, I have noticed a significant decline in the service. The telephone waiting times are particularly problematic, with lengthy hold periods when trying to book appointments. On one occasion, I waited an extended time on the phone just to secure an appointment, and then had to wait considerably longer before receiving confirmation. When I experienced severe back pain, I felt I had no choice but to attend another hospital, where I received prompt attention and support within a short timeframe. Each time I visit this practice, the waiting room appears largely empty aside from staff, yet appointments seem unavailable or there are no earlier slots offered. This situation is frustrating, and while I continue to attend because it is conveniently located, I am not satisfied with the experience. The current rating does not reflect my view of the service quality, which I believe has deteriorated considerably over time.

It is unsurprising that numerous reviews express similar concerns about this practice. The service genuinely feels inadequate and fails to meet the needs of those it should serve. Obtaining an appointment presents a significant challenge despite the surgery occupying an attractive, modern facility with a consistently quiet waiting area. I have made several unsuccessful attempts to secure an appointment for my younger child, and even when the situation was urgent, nothing could be arranged within the same week. Several months ago, I was offered an appointment for a painful ear-related issue affecting hearing, but only after a wait of nearly four weeks from when I first made contact. Today, when trying to book an appointment for my older child, despite the waiting room being virtually deserted, there was apparently no availability. Having resided in the local area for approximately 12 years, I have chosen to remain registered with a practice in my previous location due to this surgery's shortcomings. That alternative practice consistently provides same-day or next-day appointments. This service requires significant improvement, as it has considerable potential that remains unfulfilled. It has become routine for local people to seek medical care elsewhere because appointment waiting times are simply unacceptable. Disappointing.

Attended for a foot issue and received antibiotics initially, though these did not address the underlying problem. A follow-up appointment was scheduled approximately a month later. At that appointment, I was seen very briefly—around thirty seconds—during which I was asked to take a photograph of the affected area and provide it before being discharged. The lengthy wait for the follow-up appointment was frustrating given the practice appeared to have availability, and the appointment itself was extremely short. I feel a referral could have been arranged at the first visit, which would have resolved the matter more efficiently. The entire process took around two months to complete, which was inconvenient given my work situation. The experience felt like an inefficient use of healthcare resources and the clinician's time, particularly considering the NHS faces ongoing funding pressures.

One star is frankly insufficient to reflect my experience. The service is disorganised, unprofessional, and the practice would benefit from dedicated time to improve staff communication skills. I am deeply frustrated with how this surgery functions. There is a noticeable absence of attentiveness, understanding, and respectful treatment. When I contact the practice for medical support, I consistently encounter dismissiveness, apathy, or an unwillingness to provide meaningful assistance. It appears staff are not genuinely invested in helping patients – instead, they deflect responsibility or terminate conversations. This pattern is longstanding. Previous experiences involving similar levels of inattention resulted in a persistent health condition and I came dangerously close to a serious medical complication. That situation should have prompted meaningful change within the practice, yet the service remains unchanged. The team demonstrates insufficient regard for patient wellbeing. Patients are made to feel like burdens rather than individuals requiring care and support. The lack of genuine concern and responsiveness is truly disheartening. Overall, this practice has been detrimental rather than beneficial to my health, and I cannot recommend it to anyone who takes their wellbeing seriously.

Phone queue system repeatedly disconnects callers

Not satisfied with this practice at all. Online consultation requests go unanswered (submitted 2 weeks prior), telephone calls result in lengthy waiting times in the queue, and calls are disconnected after 30 minutes on hold, requiring you to rejoin the queue from the beginning. The queue position system appears unreliable, with position numbers increasing rather than decreasing as you wait. Requesting a callback option appears ineffective. This is the poorest experience I have had with a GP practice, and I have significant concerns about prescription accuracy at this location. There have been instances where incorrect medication has been dispensed, including items with other patient details attached, necessitating return visits to rectify the errors.

Reception dismissive when urgent help was needed

If I could give 0 stars I would. After returning to England following a holiday abroad that resulted in a hospital visit for undiagnosed health concerns, I was instructed to contact my GP. I called at 8.31 and found the receptionist to be impolite, dismissive, and unhelpful. The only option offered was for a clinician to return my call after three days. When I explained that I had relevant documentation and required an appointment, the response was unhelpful and frustrating. I was struck by the contrast with my experience abroad, where medical assistance arrived at my accommodation within four hours despite severe weather conditions. I would strongly advise others to consider alternative practices. This surgery requires significant improvement.

Friendly staff who actually listen and help

I relocated from another area where my previous healthcare experiences had been inconsistent. Upon registering with this group practice in early 2022, I have received outstanding care throughout my time as a patient. The clinical staff have been approachable and supportive during my regular appointments, and the medical team have taken time to listen to my concerns and arranged appropriate investigations when needed. I have consistently had positive interactions with the practice. This is the best healthcare facility I have attended. The premises are well-designed with ample parking, bright and spacious interiors, and a comprehensive range of services available. I would strongly encourage others to consider registering here.
