Felt genuinely listened to during consultation

The clinician I saw during my recent visit to the surgery was absolutely brilliant with me. They listened to what I had to say, put a plan in place together, and asked if there was anything else I needed or wanted from our consultation. For the first time in a long time I feel a GP has truly listened to me at the surgery. I would appreciate more appointments with clinicians who demonstrate this same level of attentiveness and care.

Reception didn't listen to my concerns initially

The second visit was excellent, though the initial experience was less positive. During our first appointment, we were directed to obtain medication from the pharmacy for our young child who was unwell at the time, rather than receiving the support we had hoped for from reception staff.

After attending monthly appointments since August with my usual clinician as part of my health improvement journey, I felt quite anxious about the prospect of seeing someone different when they became unavailable in April. I was scheduled to see an alternative doctor at the practice. My concerns proved unfounded, as this clinician proved to be an excellent alternative. They took time to listen carefully and demonstrated a genuine understanding of my ongoing health situation.

I felt that the clinician I consulted did not allocate sufficient time to hear my concerns and appeared to rush through the appointment, resulting in a prescription being issued. I have awarded three stars because the reception team and the staff member who handled my telephone call were both very helpful and professional.

The appointment was very positive. The clinician was well-prepared and thoroughly reviewed my medical history. Given my previous health challenges and ongoing treatment, appropriate medication was prescribed along with recommendations for a blood test and a hospital referral for further investigation. I faced some practical difficulties with transport and unfamiliarity with local facilities, but my condition has become much more manageable since the appointment. I have decided against a particular investigative procedure and am content to proceed with my current management plan.

From the initial phone call through to booking an appointment within an hour, the clinical staff member was extremely supportive and the front desk team were welcoming. A further appointment was arranged later in the week for a cardiac test, with a follow-up consultation scheduled for the following day. The practice demonstrated efficient organisation throughout, and the overall experience was very positive.

I experienced a significant delay of around 35 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment time. Additionally, I was informed that a particular blood test could not be carried out at the practice and that I would need to attend the hospital pathology department instead. This was confusing as I had been told three weeks prior that this test could be done at the practice, and I had indeed had it done there at that time. When I asked for clarification about this change, I did not receive a satisfactory explanation, only that this specific test could not be performed, despite it being the same test I had previously had completed at the practice.
