Online form response left us waiting days

Quite dissatisfied with the standard of care received. As a family with a young child, we make efforts to manage health concerns at home whenever possible. We contacted the surgery early in the day when our child became seriously unwell. The child had been experiencing prolonged fever, cough, and what appeared to be a significant ear infection. Despite trying various home-based approaches, nothing proved effective. Following our call to the surgery, we were directed to complete an online form. We heard nothing back over the following three days. The situation deteriorated, and we ultimately attended the emergency department where our child received antibiotics and subsequently recovered. This matter could have been addressed at the GP surgery level. Our child endured a lengthy wait at the emergency department to receive treatment that could have been provided promptly at the surgery from the outset. I find myself quite concerned about the triage procedures in place, particularly how cases presenting with multiple concerning symptoms in young children are being assessed and prioritised. I would be interested to understand how appointment availability and clinical decision-making are being managed across their patient list.

Reception staff chatting instead of helping patients

I have had a very poor experience at this practice. During my recent visit for my daughter's vaccination appointment, I encountered several issues that left me dissatisfied. The reception staff appeared to be frequently distracted with conversations amongst themselves. Additionally, there was a significant delay before being called in for the appointment. When I enquired about the status of my appointment, I had to ask the reception team multiple times before they checked with the clinical staff. Once called through, I observed the reception staff consulting with each other about which vaccine was needed, speaking in hushed tones that I could not hear clearly. I felt concerned that administrative staff were handling decisions about my daughter's medical care rather than the clinician, as I believed this posed a potential risk to her safety. I raised my concerns about this process and asked for information on how to formally report my experience, but did not receive clear guidance. I have since found the appropriate channels myself to lodge a complaint and am now seeking alternative care elsewhere.

Reception staff lacked accuracy with important paperwork

The staff demonstrated unprofessional conduct, with inaccuracies appearing in recorded details that were never rectified. One team member consistently required assistance from colleagues to complete routine tasks required by patients. During my maternity period, the experience was stressful and problematic. I received an important certificate with missing elements including no stamp, incorrect date, and no signature from the clinician. Due to the staff member's lack of experience and limited knowledge in this area, I subsequently failed a security check and did not receive the expected financial support for five months after my baby was born, leaving me without other income as a new mother. I attended the practice in person to request a corrected certificate with accurate information. After repeatedly asking me to wait over seven days because clinicians were busy, the staff continued providing incorrect details. I had to personally explain and guide them on what the correct information should be. I believe such administrative errors should not require waiting longer than 48 hours to resolve. My partner attended an appointment regarding a nail condition. The staff did not provide appropriate cleaning or treatment, only issuing an antibiotic that proved ineffective. We subsequently attended a private clinic where the issue was properly resolved through appropriate clinical intervention. I cannot recommend this practice.

The reception staff came across as dismissive and unhelpful. It appears they may not fully appreciate that most callers are seeking genuine assistance or guidance. Being directed repeatedly to complete online forms, only to be told afterwards to contact the surgery directly, feels like an inefficient and frustrating process that goes in circles. This practice is problematic and would be best avoided if possible.

Reception staff made booking straightforward and easy

I've always found the reception staff to be very helpful and friendly. My wife has a long-standing health condition and when we registered at this surgery, the clinical team prescribed a new treatment approach which has made a significant difference. Our previous surgery seemed less engaged and suggested we simply manage without intervention. All the staff here have consistently been proactive and genuinely listen to concerns rather than rushing through appointments.
