Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reveals a practice marked by significant operational challenges alongside pockets of clinical excellence. Appointment access remains the most consistently cited concern, with patients reporting difficulty securing same-day slots through phone booking systems that experience high call volumes and frequent disconnections. Reception experience emerges as a key pain point, with multiple accounts of discourteous interactions, lack of empathy, and invasive questioning about medical needs. Medication processing and referral management have also been problematic, with delayed referrals and prescription errors affecting patient care.

Conversely, clinical staff including doctors and nursing professionals receive substantial praise for professionalism, attentiveness, and compassionate care. Patients consistently commend the quality of medical consultations when appointments are secured, noting thorough assessments and genuine engagement. Several reviews highlight exceptional individual practitioners and the efficiency of procedures such as blood tests and ultrasounds.

The practice appears caught between systemic organisational constraints and capable clinical delivery. While staffing pressures and high patient demand clearly strain operations, the disconnect between reception and clinical standards suggests scope for service improvement in booking systems, staff training, and communication protocols.

Terrible phone system wastes hours of patient time

The phone and booking system from a patient perspective is completely non-functional and utterly ineffective. You're forced to call at 8am, repeatedly dialing 20-30+ times just to enter the phone system, typically landing at 'number 29 in the call queue'. After waiting around 45 minutes to reach number 1 (assuming you aren't cut off at number 16... which definitely happens!), you're too late to schedule any appointment, because reception staff only have access to that day's doctor schedules!!!! So they tell you to call back tomorrow morning at 8am! (Which I just did!!!) It's absolutely unbelievable. This occurs EVERY SINGLE TIME you attempt to call... Consider this: I'm just one of approximately 3000+ patients on their register. When you multiply this dysfunction across their entire patient base, it transforms from a mere annoyance into a critically serious systemic failure. I'm convinced this completely broken, useless system has potentially cost lives. Picture an 80-year-old trying to get through. I'd wager there have been instances where people simply gave up calling, and their original health concern subsequently escalated into a serious medical issue. Honestly, getting the basics right shouldn't be this complicated. It's fundamentally a simple problem that should be easily resolved. (More reception staff, an upgraded phone system, and a more effective booking process... Any private organization would address the issue this way.) Please examine your systems, not just for me, but for all your patients and your clearly exhausted staff who are constantly dealing with frustrated patients! If you want to complain, the practice manager's name is Sally, by the way... Though she predictably doesn't respond to complaints. Good luck patients... after 26 years with Mount Chambers, I've switched to another surgery... I strongly recommend you do the same.

Terrible medical practice with impossible appointment system

After switching from Church Lane Surgery to Mount Chambers, I'm deeply regretting my decision. I've been sent to A&E due to a test that hospital staff knew would cause a false positive, but the GP was unaware. For two days, I've struggled to secure an appointment, which can only be booked on the day (an absurd policy). When I called at 8:04, I was cut off twice because 30 people were already waiting. Eventually, I was 27th in the queue. While waiting, I attempted to use their online booking system, which was a frustrating maze. On my mobile, I couldn't see the "join" option and discovered I needed to switch to desktop view. After joining, I submitted a request, only to be told later that morning they'd reached capacity and suggested trying again tomorrow at 8:00. Today, calling at 8:01, I was again cut off repeatedly with 30 people in the queue. I resorted to their online system, though I'm skeptical of its effectiveness given their call capacity limits. So far, the service is abysmal. At Church Lane, I could always get through, and their online system was user-friendly. Moreover, same-day appointments were actually possible. I'm seriously considering switching back. This move to Mount Chambers was a terrible mistake.

Exceptional care at mount chambers medical practice

Recently switched to Mount Chambers medical practice from Church Lane back in November, and I must say, my experiences here have been nothing short of excellent. During today's visit for a Cortisone knee injection, the doctor was incredibly compassionate, skilled, and attentive. Unlike my previous painful experiences at Church Lane, I'm feeling remarkably comfortable this time. Additionally, after discovering high blood pressure during a pharmacy screening, the doctor promptly contacted me the same day, arranging for a prescription, blood tests, and an ECG scheduled for Thursday - all coordinated within less than 24 hours! I'm truly impressed by the swift and comprehensive care.

Shocking medical negligence puts life at serious risk

I've been stuck in limbo for more than a month, trying to get a medical referral upgraded to urgent status due to a suspicious growth. Each time we reach out, we're simply instructed to call back at a later time. I filed a formal complaint over a fortnight ago, and not a single response has been received. Absolutely unacceptable.

Terrible medical care left me frustrated and hurt

I attempted to change my surgical dressing and discovered some residual material remained in the wound. When I sought assistance from my medical providers, I was dismissively turned away and informed no staff could help me. They didn't even offer me the chance to wait for a professional - I was simply ushered out with an exposed wound. I am absolutely enraged by the appalling standard of care they consider acceptable in today's healthcare environment.

Worst medical service ever frustrating and unprofessional

If I could give zero stars, I would. Getting a doctor's appointment by phone is challenging, and they no longer offer in-person consultations. I never received the promised callback, so I tried again the next day, only to be treated like a dishonest patient by an incredibly unprofessional receptionist. These staff members lack basic compassion and customer service skills. I strongly recommend avoiding this medical practice if you dislike being spoken to disrespectfully by dismissive and inconsistent front desk personnel.

Terrible medical service that left me feeling hopeless

I've been dealing with this medical facility since August, and their service has been consistently inaccurate. During my blood test, I was processed like just another number, without any personal care. The entire encounter was utterly dreadful from beginning to end. I absolutely will not return.

Excellent service despite busy medical practice

Waiting in line for an appointment is typical, given the high patient volume, so I didn't mind the queue. As anticipated, the doctor called me earlier than expected. The consultation was comprehensive and unhurried, and I was thoroughly satisfied with the entire experience. My sincere appreciation to the staff.

Terrible service and unprofessional medical staff nightmare

Steer clear of this medical facility at all expenses. If the NHS schedules you here, request an alternative location. Despite arriving promptly for my ultrasound, they dispatched a text message claiming I was absent, even falsely stating they had searched for me in the reception area. The nursing staff appeared more preoccupied with their lunch break than providing compassionate care. This practice is completely unacceptable and should be avoided entirely.

Horrible healthcare experience with endless waiting

I've been attempting to connect for three consecutive days, and after each 20-minute wait, I'm instructed to try again tomorrow. We were initially informed about an issue with my father's blood tests three days ago, yet we remain in the dark about the actual results. The facility is clearly overwhelmed, with an evident staffing shortage and patient overload. Three doctors are absent today, which isn't shocking—likely due to work-related stress. The entire operation requires a comprehensive evaluation. The patient care is appalling, and while the treatment is unacceptable, I can empathize with the reception staff who are clearly under immense pressure. Ultimately, the whole setup is completely ridiculous.

Frustrating appointment system ruins potential good care

Securing an appointment here is an absolute nightmare! Despite my persistent efforts of calling precisely at 8 am week after week, I'm constantly met with claims of zero availability or various unconvincing explanations. Even after receiving a referral from a specialist, they remain unresponsive to my scheduling needs. The sole justification for not giving zero stars is that the physicians themselves are actually quite competent once you manage to actually see them.
