Reliable and caring local medical practice

I've been visiting Mount Chambers surgery for two decades now. With a bit of persistence, securing a same-day appointment is achievable (which is standard across GP practices). As with most medical centers, the phone lines are congested at 8am, so be ready to redial repeatedly until you connect. Throughout my long-standing experience, I have nothing but praise for the doctors I've consulted, and the entire staff consistently demonstrates warmth and professionalism. I wholeheartedly endorse this practice.

I prefer to maintain continuity with the same general practitioner when possible, but frequently encounter challenges when scheduling. Attempting to book an appointment often results in being told to call back, and when I try at 8am, the lines are consistently busy. After finally getting through, usually around five minutes past the hour, I discover all available slots have been taken, forcing me to repeat the process the next day. This can be quite exasperating, and occasionally, a few staff members seem less than accommodating. Ultimately, I believe their current appointment system requires significant improvement.

Getting an appointment here is challenging, especially for those with limited mobility. You typically have to physically visit the surgery to request a slot. The office seems staffed with five people, where one handles appointments while the others appear more interested in tea breaks. The appointment staff seem more focused on creating obstacles or questioning patients' medical needs rather than facilitating care. The GP experience is unpredictable - some doctors are thorough and will conduct basic tests before prescribing treatment, while others seem to rely on mere physical proximity to patients as their diagnostic method, which is somewhat questionable. The sole bright spot is the Nurse Practitioner, who provides excellent service.

The reception staff's service is absolutely terrible, displaying a complete lack of professionalism and courtesy. They persistently pry into my personal medical matters, demanding to know the reason for my doctor's visit, which is entirely inappropriate. As a long-standing patient of this practice for three decades, I've never before experienced such frustration. Recently, the situation has become unbearable, with the added challenge of being unable to schedule appointments at my convenience.

Friendly staff make up for challenging phone lines

I frequently visit this medical practice, primarily to collect my recurring medication and consult with Dr Summers, who has a limited two-day weekly presence. While attempting to reach them by phone at 8:00 am is nearly futile, clearly some patients manage to connect. This telephone accessibility issue is the sole factor preventing me from giving a higher rating. I must emphasize that all the staff members are consistently professional, accommodating, and highly competent.

They'll try to dismiss their numerous negative reviews by blaming their "outdated" facilities, but that's nonsense - their terrible service is the real issue. This medical practice is absolutely absurd! For the last week, I've been calling at 8 AM daily trying to schedule an appointment, but the phone lines are consistently jammed for the first quarter-hour. When you finally manage to get through, the staff are completely unhelpful and uncooperative. If you dare to voice any frustration about their inefficient process, they immediately attempt to shift blame onto patients, suggesting we should somehow understand their convoluted system. The irony is that if their booking procedure is this dysfunctional, how can they not recognize the urgent need for improvement?!

Scheduling a doctor's visit has become incredibly frustrating. Every time I call, I'm either told my physician isn't available on my preferred days or the clinic is completely full. I miss the days when booking an appointment in advance was simple. The current system is absurd, and I'm particularly annoyed by the receptionist's invasive questioning about the reason for my medical consultation. Since when did administrative staff start interrogating patients about their medical needs? Patient privacy and confidentiality seem to have been completely disregarded. They're not medical professionals, so they shouldn't be prying into my personal health matters.

Efficient care but frustrating prescription process

It's a hectic medical practice where securing an appointment is challenging, and consultations feel hurried. Despite this, I've received quality medical guidance, so I can't fault the core service. The staff have consistently been pleasant and supportive. However, I've encountered significant challenges with the prescription electronic transfer system (EPS) between the surgery and my pharmacy. Each time I need medication, the chemist hasn't received the electronic prescription, forcing me to personally collect a paper prescription from the doctors, re-provide the pharmacy details, and then return to the chemist the following day. This process is incredibly aggravating and time-consuming, especially given the distance between my doctors in Braintree and the pharmacy in Dunmow.
