Patient Experience Summary

Patient feedback reflects a mixed experience across the practice. Clinical care is consistently praised, with healthcare professionals described as professional, compassionate, and responsive to patient needs. Many patients report positive appointment experiences, with some noting straightforward booking processes and prompt access to care. Reception staff receive mixed feedback, with some patients highlighting their courtesy and helpfulness, whilst others describe dismissiveness and reluctance to assist, particularly regarding telephone enquiries.

Appointment access presents a significant concern for several patients. The telephone booking system is cited as frustrating and unnecessarily complicated, requiring repeated calls rather than straightforward booking. Some patients report difficulty securing same-day appointments or pre-booked slots, whilst others experienced long waiting times. The online booking system, whilst praised by some for its digital convenience, is noted by others as slower and less accessible than telephone alternatives, raising concerns about support for those less comfortable with digital platforms.

Reception experience varies considerably. Positive feedback emphasises friendly, welcoming, and helpful staff who brighten visits. However, negative feedback describes dismissive, disengaged, and disrespectful treatment, with some patients reporting reluctance to provide guidance or assistance. Communication and responsiveness issues are evident, including instances where patients felt unsupported during vulnerable situations. The practice environment is occasionally mentioned as poor, and concerns are raised about inconsistent care quality depending on which clinician is seen.

Awful avoid if you can at all costs!

Terrible surgery virtually no parking, you have request online a doctors appt which IF approved you could wait three or four weeks for! Prescriptions have to be in writing and the reception staff are rude and unhelpful. Nasty stuffy and scruffy surgery horribly. Avoid at all costs they simply don’t want to do their job WE pay them for!

Quick appointment and responsive prescription changes

I have been a registered patient for a couple of years and recently needed to attend for the first time. I was able to secure an appointment within several days of requesting one. During my visit, I was seen promptly by the physiotherapy team. When I subsequently called back, the clinical staff member responded very quickly and helpfully adjusted my medication, even doing so late on a Friday afternoon, which I found greatly appreciated. The team members I interacted with were excellent, friendly and approachable. Overall, the practice appears to be well-organised and efficiently managed.

Poor!

Staff dismissive when phone booking requests made

I find it difficult to access screens for extended periods when unwell, and I have concerns about the appointment booking process. When I telephone to request an appointment or ask a question, I feel dismissed and am directed to use the online booking system instead. However, not everyone finds the website user-friendly or practical, and the process feels slower and more cumbersome than a phone conversation would be. The online form can take several days to receive a response, whereas a telephone booking could be completed immediately. I am concerned about the delay in receiving care while I remain unwell. I also wonder about accessibility for those less comfortable with digital systems—whether they receive adequate support or are expected to navigate the process independently. That said, once I have secured an appointment, the clinical staff have been pleasant and professional.

Same day appointment put my mind at ease

We relocated to the area two years ago and have experienced outstanding service from all staff members throughout my healthcare journey. The team was able to arrange a same-day appointment, which provided me with much-needed reassurance. It has been quite some time since I last had such a thorough and clearly explained consultation. My test results were also communicated to me in a way that was easy to understand. I am very grateful for the excellent care provided.

Easy to get appointments when needed

Excellent medical practice with highly skilled healthcare professionals. Having relocated to the area relatively recently, I made enquiries to identify a reputable local surgery and received positive recommendations from people in my community. I have found the appointment booking process straightforward and accessible. The clinicians I have consulted with have demonstrated professionalism and genuine compassion in their approach to care. The overall service has been of a high standard. Based on my time as a patient here, I would confidently suggest this practice to others.

Practice avoids seeing patients face to face

This practice was once regarded as exemplary, with all staff members demonstrating helpfulness and care. There appears to have been a significant shift in standards. The reception team, nursing staff, and phlebotomy personnel remain as pleasant, courteous and attentive as they have always been. However, the clinical practitioners seem reluctant to conduct face-to-face consultations, presenting themselves as dismissive and lacking in empathy or genuine concern. I feel disappointed by what appears to be a lack of care and engagement from the clinical team. They appear to create obstacles that hinder patients from accessing appropriate care. The first obstacle is the triage questionnaire, which requires you to describe your concern but only permits focus on a single issue, making it impossible to explain multiple interconnected health matters. This section essentially requires self-diagnosis. The second part asks about symptom duration, which seems reasonable, yet there appears to be an underlying intention. Stating a short duration gives practitioners the opportunity to suggest waiting to see how things develop, whilst stating a long duration allows them to question why you are seeking help now. However, they tend to avoid direct patient contact, preferring to communicate via text messages that do not permit responses. You are then asked what steps you have already taken to address the problem, but relying on self-diagnosis means you may have misunderstood the issue entirely. Another question asks what concerns you most – of course there are concerns, otherwise the form would not be necessary. The final question asks how you would like to be helped, meaning you have been asked to diagnose yourself and now must suggest your own treatment plan. I would appreciate an explanation for the apparent reluctance to see patients in person, particularly when other practices in the area manage to do so despite similar workloads. The most realistic expectation from this practice is perhaps a telephone consultation. There is a particular clinical practitioner who appears to take satisfaction in emphasising their expertise, knowledge and status whilst providing irrelevant information. If offered an appointment with this individual, considerable time should be set aside for two reasons: firstly, appointments routinely run significantly over the scheduled time, and secondly, before providing any assistance, this practitioner feels compelled to discuss their importance, knowledge and unrelated matters. This represents a disappointing decline from what was previously considered the finest medical practice in the surrounding area.

Receptionist helped arrange urgent holiday appointment

What a wonderful surgery! I was on holiday in the area and wasn't feeling well at all. The receptionist was really helpful and managed to get me an appointment the following morning. I was seen by a clinician who examined me and identified a respiratory infection. I was provided with a prescription that same day. I am so grateful to them, as I would have had to cut my holiday short if I hadn't been able to see a doctor that day.

Receptionist helpful but doctor was disrespectful

My neighbour had an appointment arranged by paramedics following her discharge from hospital the previous day, and we needed to collect her as she was very distressed. While the receptionist was helpful, the clinician's manner left her feeling disrespected and questioned. Additionally, there was a misunderstanding regarding an incident with her mobility aid that fell to the floor, which the clinician responded to in a way that upset her further. This experience was deeply concerning, and a formal complaint is being prepared.

Reception staff were friendly and genuinely helpful

Outstanding care throughout the entire practice. The front desk team have consistently demonstrated friendliness and genuine support. The healthcare professionals, including those involved in blood work, emergency response, nursing care and general practice, display both technical competence and compassion. Appointment availability has always felt reasonable, and I have been attended to promptly on the day of my visits. My consultations have never felt hurried, and I have received undivided focus with my health concerns being treated with appropriate importance. While healthcare services face considerable demands and no organisation is without challenges, this practice clearly makes genuine efforts to prioritise patient wellbeing. I feel very fortunate to receive care here. Thank you 💜

Registration forms handed in but practice was full

We were provided with registration forms upon arriving in the area as new residents and were assured that submitting them at a later date would be acceptable, with no issues anticipated. After my partner and I filled out the forms and attempted to submit them, we were informed that the practice was not accepting new registrations. It seems this information could have been communicated when we initially received the forms, allowing us to have submitted them sooner if we had been made aware of the capacity constraints at that time.

Doctors here truly understand the pressure

The healthcare professionals I've encountered at this practice have consistently provided excellent care. Those working within the NHS face ongoing pressure to deliver more services at greater speed while managing limited resources. The government ought to demonstrate greater appreciation and support for these dedicated individuals.

Reception staff dismissive and unwelcoming

This has been the poorest medical practice I have experienced. The front desk team come across as dismissive and unhelpful, and often seem reluctant to engage with patients at all. On one occasion, it took several minutes before I received any acknowledgement, and when I did, the greeting was perfunctory and lacked warmth or courtesy. The quality of care varies significantly depending on which clinician you see. Some are approachable, whilst others appear unwilling to help and frequently redirect you elsewhere. I attended recently with my young child who has been experiencing distressing episodes during the night, including self-injurious behaviour. The response I received felt dismissive and unhelpful, leaving me feeling unsupported during a concerning situation. The overall standard of how patients are treated at this practice is disappointing. Every aspect of my visits, from arrival to departure, has felt negative and frustrating. I would seriously consider travelling further afield to access care elsewhere if it were feasible for me to do so.
