Impossible to book appointments with the doctor

After being a patient for 80 years, I have made the difficult decision to register with another practice. The service has deteriorated significantly since the recent change of ownership, which is disappointing. While the specialist nursing staff remain competent, obtaining an appointment with a doctor has become extremely challenging. There is one clinician who stands out positively and appears underutilised within what feels like an increasingly inadequate service. Although appointments may be suggested for two weeks ahead, the inability to book in advance means the actual wait can extend to four weeks or longer without securing a slot. Additionally, test results are processed slowly, with considerable delays before clinical review, and patients must make repeated calls to obtain their findings. The practice is no longer delivering the standard of care it previously provided.

Terrible terrible terrible, I have never had an experience like this since the primary care service took over. I do not recommend this practice. Anyone considering coming here should think twice. To those working there, I would say you receive the treatment you give to others and there is a lack of respect. Terrible terrible terrible. I face problems every month and this makes my wellbeing worse. I feel the service is not meeting expectations and communication could be improved when concerns are raised.

It is difficult to know where to begin with this practice. Obtaining an appointment presents considerable challenges, and telephone calls appear to go unanswered. The reception team's demeanour and helpfulness seem inconsistent with what patients would expect from a healthcare setting. Update 08/11/2025 The situation appears to have deteriorated further. There are concerns about the standard of care provided by certain reception staff members, whose approach to patient interactions is felt to be inadequate. There have been instances where the practice's approach to patient care has raised serious concerns, and it is felt that significant changes would be beneficial. The reception team's contribution to the overall patient experience is considered to be a substantial issue that requires addressing.

I find it genuinely shocking how this practice is managed. "Luck of the draw" should not be the phrase used when older patients are attempting to secure urgent appointment slots. The receptionists tend to speak in an aggrieved manner, raising their voices. My elderly relative dreads making calls to book appointments because he "doesn't want the bother" of interacting with the reception staff. These concerns are being raised on behalf of my older family member. I would not consider registering with this surgery under any circumstances. The experience has been quite poor.

However, when attempting to book, you must call in the morning and cannot arrange visits in advance. A clinician requested a follow-up in two weeks but advance booking was not possible. I would give a lower rating if possible. I have experienced ongoing difficulties with this practice. I question the value of attending appointments, as the clinical staff appear to prioritise dismissing concerns rather than thoroughly investigating the underlying issues. This is not an isolated incident—my children have previously been assessed and given a diagnosis of a common viral infection, which made me feel my concerns were not taken seriously. Most recently, I attended with two young children. The appointment was very brief, lasting only a couple of minutes for both children, after which I was told they had a common viral infection. However, within a day, both children were seen by another healthcare professional who identified different diagnoses. I found this discrepancy deeply concerning, particularly given how young my children are. In another separate occasion, a similar pattern occurred where my child received a different diagnosis upon reassessment. I believe this practice requires significant improvement in its diagnostic approach and clinical assessment standards.

Form handling caused serious privacy concerns and distress

Following nearly three weeks of pursuing completion of an administrative form that was assured to be ready by a specific point during my appointment, I was informed that a member of the management team had decided to forward it to another facility without my consent. As someone managing a serious health condition, I felt this action breached my confidentiality. My distress at this situation led to an emotional response, after which I was asked to leave the premises. I spent time in the car park attempting to regain my composure. A staff member from reception noticed me in visible distress but did not offer any assistance. The clinical staff I encountered during my visits provided excellent care. However, I found certain administrative personnel to be dismissive and overly focused on their own authority. I believe this practice would benefit from external oversight to ensure proper standards are maintained and that patients receive appropriate support during vulnerable moments.
