Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reveals a practice experiencing significant operational challenges, particularly affecting appointment access and reception experience. Patients consistently report difficulty reaching the surgery by telephone, lengthy waiting times for appointments, and restrictive booking windows that create barriers for working professionals. Communication breakdowns are frequently cited, with delayed responses to requests and inadequate follow-up on test results. Reception staff courtesy varies considerably, with some patients describing dismissive or unhelpful interactions, though others have experienced supportive assistance.

In contrast, medical professionals including doctors, nurses, and pharmacists receive consistent praise for compassion, thoroughness, and attentiveness to patient concerns. The practice's digital appointment platform and online consultation services are noted positively by some users, though accessibility issues persist. Medication delays and gaps in continuity of care emerge as recurring concerns, alongside broader organisational challenges that appear to have intensified in recent years. While clinical care quality remains valued, the administrative and booking systems require substantial improvement to better serve patient needs.

Terrible service leaving pregnant patient without care

Since becoming a patient at this medical practice, I've only had a single consultation since August 2021. Now 20 weeks into my pregnancy, I'm battling the flu with a persistent chest cough that's preventing me from getting any rest. I reached out to my GP's advice line yesterday morning at 9 am and, as of 6:08 pm, I'm still waiting for a return call. Similarly, when I contacted Oaklands Surgery last month about severe stomach pains, their delayed response forced me to call 111 and ultimately seek emergency care at A&E, potentially for appendicitis. It's no surprise that emergency departments are overwhelmed when primary care is this unresponsive.

Terrible service and zero communication from surgery

Completely useless experience. They redirected me to an online GP consultation and then went radio silent. The front desk staff seemed eager to be as unhelpful and obstructive as possible. I'm seriously considering switching healthcare providers - in the end, I had no choice but to contact the emergency medical helpline 111.

Worst medical practice ever with zero patient care

I'm at my wit's end with this GP surgery and would rate them zero stars if possible. I've been waiting since June to discuss my diabetes blood test results, and every time I call the receptionist, I'm redirected to use the "ask my GP" app. My son's situation is even more critical - he was initially referred on Wednesday, 30th November with a high temperature, ear ache, and muffled hearing. Now he's developed a massive rash and strawberry tongue, potentially indicating scarlet fever. Attempting to contact them is impossible, with calls either ending abruptly or not connecting at all. This surgery's service is completely unacceptable and requires a thorough investigation to ensure proper patient care. The "ask my GP" app is utterly ineffective, with requests taking days to receive a response. During my last face-to-face appointment, the experience was equally frustrating. I waited with four other patients at a non-functioning self check-in system while the receptionists, hidden behind closed glass doors, were busy laughing and chatting, causing me to be ten minutes late for my appointment. I am thoroughly disappointed and let down by this surgery's complete lack of professionalism and patient care.

Disappointing decline of once reliable healthcare service

I've been a patient at this medical practice for three decades, and it's deeply disappointing to see how far the quality of care has deteriorated. Now, instead of receiving proper medical attention, patients are essentially being dismissed and directed to an already overwhelmed Accident & Emergency department for conditions that, while not immediately life-threatening, could potentially develop into serious health problems if left unaddressed. The current state of our general practitioner service is truly alarming and raises serious concerns about patient care.

Excellent!

Compassionate care with a tech-friendly approach

I've consistently found booking appointments to be seamless, and the physicians have always been exceptional. Recently, my father developed a severe infection and was seen immediately. The doctor was outstanding - comprehensive in their examination and compassionate in their approach. My sole constructive observation would be regarding the instruction to use Ask My GP for scheduling, which works well for me, but I'm mindful that this might be challenging for individuals less comfortable with digital platforms. Heartfelt gratitude to the entire team - your dedication does not go unnoticed x

Worst medical experience ever terrible healthcare service

The rating system fails to capture how abysmal this medical practice truly is! Their disregard for patient care is absolutely shocking. Nearly all the front desk staff (save for one delightful employee) were shockingly discourteous and completely unaccommodating. During my long-awaited consultation, the physician proved equally dismissive, completely ignoring my valid concerns about my recent medical diagnosis and offering zero guidance in helping me comprehend my new health situation. I'm now stuck awaiting a prescription for a symptom that isn't even critical or particularly troubling to me. The entire experience has been utterly unacceptable, and I will definitely be filing a formal complaint about this deplorable treatment.

Frustrating registration process with unhelpful staff

Attempted to register by phone and was directed to their website to print a form. Upon visiting the site, I discovered the form was inaccessible. When I arrived in person, the initial reception was far from welcoming; I felt like an inconvenience. The receptionist immediately questioned whether I had completed a registration form. When I explained I couldn't access it online, she dismissively suggested getting it from the website, completely ignoring my previous statement about its unavailability. Instead of offering assistance or expressing any regret, she simply claimed ignorance. Fortunately, one staff member was genuinely pleasant and helpful, which contrasted sharply with her colleague's unhelpful and discourteous attitude. It's frustrating that basic professionalism seems to be in such short supply. Basic courtesy doesn't cost anything.

Terrible healthcare experience leaves patient frustrated

Completely frustrated by the subpar service, I've been left hanging for seven days waiting on a prescription. I've exhausted every possible avenue - consulting my general practitioner, making countless phone calls, and making repeated visits to the medical practice - yet I'm continuously met with the same dismissive response that the issue is being addressed. I'm now left with no choice but to file a formal complaint.

Nightmare medical experience with unhelpful staff

Terrible experience. The front desk staff are incredibly discourteous, and scheduling an appointment is practically unattainable. I'm forced to go through my general practitioner to eventually receive a physician's callback, but the entire procedure is drawn out, and the chances of securing an in-person consultation are incredibly slim. This approach completely discourages seeking medical assistance. One receptionist, Shirley, is particularly abrasive, making patients feel like they're being interrogated and are an inconvenience. I'm actively exploring options to transfer to a different practice, as this is undoubtedly the most subpar medical facility I've encountered, and I've barely been registered here.

Terrible service and unprofessional medical staff

Unbelievable.. I scheduled a medical consultation for 11am on Thursday 18/8, then visited the clinic at 2pm Friday for an update. They said it could take 48 hours but they don't operate on Saturday or Sunday.. I called today 22/8 to inquire about the appointment time, and was informed a call was set for 4pm, but it's now 16:37 and I've received nothing 😡

Incompetent receptionist risked my mothers cancer treatment

Absolutely appalling. The front desk staff unilaterally decided to assess my mother's medical requirements and blocked her from seeing a general practitioner, which ultimately led to her being hospitalized and forcing a postponement of her chemotherapy treatment by several weeks. I filed a formal complaint, but it was completely ignored and produced no results.

Worst medical service ever terrible healthcare nightmare

Despite my numerous attempts to consult or meet with a physician about my various medical concerns, during my most recent scheduled telephone consultation with the general practitioner, an unfamiliar doctor from a distant region called me, seemingly bewildered about the purpose of her call and inquiring about my specific health problem. I genuinely cannot identify a single redeeming quality or positive aspect of this medical practice beyond its utterly substandard service. Simply appalling.

Terrible healthcare service leaves patient frustrated and ignored

I feel completely disregarded and overlooked. Yesterday, I reached out to 111 online, who suggested I might have shingles, and the nurse promised to contact Oakland's about my need for an urgent appointment. Since then, I've personally called the surgery twice yesterday and twice today, only to be repeatedly told I'll receive a callback. During one of these calls, I missed a call from their nurse, and now it's 7:30 PM on Friday, meaning the surgery is closed until Monday. I've submitted another 111 request, but it seems I might end up in the hospital - which defeats the purpose of the 111 service. If Oakland's showed even a modicum of care, I would have been seen yesterday. As a carer, they are well aware of my professional status, yet they appear willing to potentially expose more people to risk by their negligence.

Poor!

Frustrating appointments and unhelpful receptionists everywhere

The appointment scheduling system at this practice is absolutely ridiculous. Being restricted to a mere three-hour window between 7-10 is incredibly inconvenient, especially for working professionals. If you happen to miss this narrow timeframe, their response is to coldly direct you online or dismiss your attempts to book in person. It seems they're completely incapable of providing basic appointment management. The reception staff are consistently unhelpful and discourteous, whether you interact with them in person or over the phone. I've never experienced a single positive interaction with them. Without doubt, these are the most unprofessional receptionists I've encountered at any medical practice. In contrast, the actual GPs I've seen have been compassionate and supportive.

Worst healthcare experience ever terrible service

Utterly REPULSIVE. Repeatedly, this service has let me and everyone in my circle down. Encountered disrespectful personnel. Negligence with my medication. Physicians showing zero empathy—even mocking patients! Continuous errors that ultimately drove me to seek private care just to be heard, and even then they failed to acknowledge correspondence and redirected me elsewhere. Now enduring endless months of waiting just to secure a phone consultation for year-old problems, only to have them call an hour late and miss the appointment entirely. Completely and absolutely revolting. I've reached my breaking point.

Bad!

Terrible service from unhelpful medical staff

The absolute worst medical service imaginable! Completely ineffective and they simply disregard patients when inconvenient. I tested positive for covid last week. Since England no longer mandates self-isolation for infected individuals, my employer won't accept the Self Isolation note beyond their 5-day policy. Most covid-infected people can return to work on the 6th day after two negative tests. However, my situation was different - my LFD tests remained positive after 8 days, I developed a persistent, severe cough, and was clearly unfit to work. I desperately needed a sick note to confirm my health status, especially since I had run out of LFD tests and couldn't prove my continued infection. Shockingly, nurse practitioner Ms. Alexandra Davenport, despite hearing my choking cough and voice difficulties that made conversation challenging, refused to provide a sick note. She insisted the self-generated self-isolation note for 28 days was equivalent to a sick note, though mine was only generated for 10 days. My friend, who had covid but was in better health, contacted his surgery the day before my attempt and received his sick note via email without any issues. I had been pleading since Wednesday (with a receptionist submitting a detailed AskMyGP request describing my cough) but received no response until Friday. After three phone calls, I was left without any solution - no tests, no documentation to cover my work absence, and no response. They simply ignored me. Next week, I will file an official complaint and absolutely change surgeries, as this one employs completely USELESS, unhelpful, and malicious staff!

Great!

Great medical service with compassionate professionals

I find it puzzling that so many people have left critical feedback about this medical practice. For two decades, I've been a patient here and have consistently received quality care. In recent years, I've taken advantage of their digital services and scheduled multiple in-person appointments (not related to urgent matters). Just last month, in March 2022, I had an exceptionally comprehensive consultation with a young Black locum physician, which was then followed by blood work conducted by a fourth-year Indian medical student.

Unacceptable medical care for my struggling son

I brought my son to the medical clinic due to ongoing health concerns that require periodic blood testing. The physician dismissed the need for blood work and, when my son pressed the issue, merely suggested he might find an available slot without actually scheduling anything. My son urgently requires medication, and this approach to patient care is completely unacceptable. Such treatment is absolutely absurd! Healthcare professionals should prioritize their patients' needs and well-being.
