Patient Experience Summary

Appointment access remains the dominant concern across feedback, with patients reporting persistent difficulties reaching the practice by phone, encountering full queues immediately at opening time, and facing long waiting periods when calls do connect. The booking experience is characterised by same-day-only availability with no advance scheduling options, leaving many unable to secure consultations despite repeated attempts. Reception experience emerges as a significant issue, with multiple reports of staff displaying discourtesy, dismissiveness, and poor communication skills, though some individual staff members receive praise for professionalism and helpfulness.

Care experience feedback is mixed. While several patients commend specific doctors for compassionate, attentive listening and professional medical expertise, others describe dismissive consultations, rushed appointments, and inadequate clinical assessment. Communication gaps appear throughout, including delayed responses to requests, unavailable test results, and poor follow-up on promised actions. Long waiting times in reception areas and for callback appointments add to patient frustration.

Patients report organisational failures affecting service delivery, including medication prescription errors, unavailable treatments, and inadequate coordination between departments. Several long-term patients note significant deterioration in service quality over recent years. A small number of reviews highlight positive experiences with particular doctors and reception staff, suggesting that service quality varies considerably depending on individual staff members and circumstances.

Impossible to book an appointment at osmaston surgery

I'm struggling to schedule an appointment at Osmaston surgery and facing numerous obstacles. Since receiving the initial booking message, I've been unable to secure a slot. Starting from 8 AM, I've been persistently attempting to book via phone, but I'm met with continuous recordings stating all appointments are fully booked or that no staff are currently available. When I try booking online, I receive similar unhelpful messages about unavailable appointments. Even visiting the surgery in person yielded no resolution, with staff simply directing me back to online or phone booking methods. I've been trying desperately to book an appointment through multiple channels, yet remain unsuccessful. I'm seeking any alternative method to contact the surgery and successfully schedule my appointment. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Heartless clinic fails patient during medical emergency

I reached out to schedule a consultation for my mother, who was experiencing critically low oxygen levels at 85, persistent coughing, fever, and a chest infection. Shockingly, they claimed to have no available slots. It's absolutely disgraceful how little compassion they show. They demonstrate zero empathy for a patient's suffering. If any harm comes to my mom, I will absolutely pursue legal action against them. I strongly advise everyone to avoid this facility - it's completely unacceptable.

Worst medical practice ever healthcare nightmare

Scheduling a consultation at this clinic is an absolute nightmare. You can't even walk in to book an appointment. They show zero commitment to patient care or well-being. Their attitude screams complete indifference. This medical practice is utterly terrible. Even after 10 months, securing an appointment remains an epic struggle. If the rating system allowed it, I'd give them less than the minimum stars possible.

Diabetes care frustration leads to medical maze

After years of managing diabetes on insulin without proper guidance or monitoring, I finally made an appointment with a doctor and felt hopeful about progress, especially with the diabetic clinic at DRI. The nurses were incredibly supportive. I realized I had been taking too much insulin for years. I was prescribed a new pen for weight loss and insulin management, and they even followed up within a week to check on my progress. However, when I went to the chemist, I discovered the new injection wasn't available and one medication was incorrect. Attempting to resolve this, I tried calling the surgery to speak with a doctor, but the receptionist seemed unhelpful and suggested returning to the chemist. A pharmacist who wasn't from the chemist called but couldn't assist and redirected me back to the doctors. The chemist took my contact details to help change the prescription. Since it's now Sunday, I'll try the doctors again at 8am Monday, and if that fails, I'll escalate to the practice manager and potentially the GMC. I might need to change surgeries entirely. I'm not usually one to cause trouble, but we place our trust in medical professionals, so why does this keep happening?

Compassionate doctors who truly care about patients

I've been a patient at this medical practice since childhood, and while appointment scheduling has evolved, these changes reflect our current times and are not the fault of the staff or surgery. The Patel doctors are, without doubt, the most genuine and approachable medical professionals I've ever encountered. When a dear friend was receiving end-of-life care, Mrs. Patel was the first person to truly understand and address our concerns. She treated him with remarkable dignity and heartfelt compassion. Mr. Patel also demonstrated extraordinary empathy, visiting both before and after my friend's passing, showing immense respect. During a previous serious health incident, Mrs. Patel was incredibly supportive, almost like a guardian angel. I believe it's unfair to leave negative reviews about appointment procedures, as most medical practices currently face similar challenges. These reviews absolutely do not represent the quality of the doctors here. In fact, I'm convinced I might not be alive today if one of their physicians hadn't persistently recommended hospital tests, despite my initial reluctance. Throughout my experience, the doctors, administrative staff, and even the adjacent pharmacy have consistently demonstrated professionalism and courtesy.

Compassionate doctors made uncle's final days peaceful

I want to express my heartfelt appreciation to the two Dr Patels at The Osmaston Surgery. Their exceptional medical expertise, compassionate approach, and attentive listening enabled them to provide optimal medical support for my 93-year-old Uncle during his end-of-life care at the Residential home, ensuring his comfort and dignity. I will forever be grateful for their remarkable actions, such as truly listening to our family's concerns, demonstrating profound empathy, and offering unwavering support without reservation. They consistently showed remarkable grace and understanding throughout this challenging time. From his niece Paulene Many Blessings Always 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Terrible service and complete waste of time

I endured an excessively long wait exceeding an hour to see the nurse, who was supposedly searching for my mother's B12 injection. Upon inquiring about the delay, the reception staff were completely unhelpful and unable to provide any explanation. Dr. Patel descended and handed my mother a year-long prescription, fully aware that the B12 injection was unavailable at any pharmacy nationwide. My mother had waited two weeks for this specific appointment to receive the B12 injection, yet left without it, despite the clinic's prior knowledge of its unavailability. They then seemed perplexed by my resulting frustration. This medical practice has deteriorated to an unacceptable level. If the rating system permitted, I would absolutely assign zero stars.

Terrible medical care that left me feeling hopeless

Terrible ordeal on every single visit, at least half of the medical staff should seriously rethink their professional path. Their interpersonal communication is abysmal, scheduling an appointment is nearly impossible, and when you finally secure one, it proves utterly pointless. I actually feel more unwell after consulting with them than before my appointment. I'm sincerely hoping this facility will be out of business by 2025.

Terrible service from receptionists and doctors

I used to highly praise the reception staff, but now my opinion has changed. Diane and Sarah require training in patient communication. I previously booked a double appointment without issue, but now they demand explanations for why I need extended time, which is unnecessary. When I asked Diane about booking two close appointments, she dismissively responded, "it doesn't work like that" in a condescending manner. I attempted to book another double appointment with Sarah, who falsely claimed these are only for those needing translation. When I requested her name, she provided it and abruptly ended our conversation. The new medical staff have been problematic. Advanced Nurse Practitioner Asha Praveen was unprofessional, speaking condescendingly and controlling my care. When I requested a sick note, she curtly stated she'd only provide one month instead of two, demonstrating a clear power complex. Dr. Hina was equally unsatisfactory, burping during the consultation and interrupting me constantly. The appointment was chaotic. I was misdirected by reception, waiting 30 minutes in the wrong location despite the self-serve system indicating room 13. In the July review, I noted the receptionists remain ineffective, particularly a new young male staff member with poor communication skills. He appears confused, responds unhelpfully, and makes no effort to seek assistance. I received an appointment cancellation voicemail with no apology or rebooking support. I observed a reception staff member ignoring a soap dispenser issue, instead socializing and using her phone, which is unacceptable in a medical environment. Dr. Ahluwalia initially seemed promising, listening to my symptoms and ordering comprehensive blood tests that revealed abnormalities. However, by November, she had become typical of the surgery's staff - dismissive and unhelpful, attributing my severe back pain to weight without conducting proper investigations. Dr. Kamran stands out as exceptional. He's professional, respectful, and genuinely caring. He addresses patients formally, welcomes them warmly, and follows through on commitments. Even when busy, he remains methodical and focused. He truly deserves recognition for his outstanding medical care.

Shocking unprofessionalism from nhs healthcare professional

As a healthcare professional within the NHS, I've encountered unprecedented levels of unprofessionalism when trying to address patient requirements via telephone. Subsequently, after multiple surgical errors, the physician's communication was shockingly inappropriate. She was extremely discourteous, completely disregarded the patient's concerns, and demonstrated a profound lack of comprehension regarding the complaint and my specific requests. She deliberately attempted to marginalize my input, despite having effectively completed nearly all of her professional responsibilities. If this is how she interacts with fellow medical professionals and considers such behavior acceptable, I shudder to imagine how she might treat patients directly.

Frustrating gp with poor service and communication

I've been visiting this general practice for some time, and regrettably, the overall experience has fallen short of expectations in multiple aspects. The telephone lines are perpetually congested, creating immense difficulty in establishing contact, and when connection is finally achieved, the response is painfully sluggish, with appointment availability being extremely limited!!! There have been numerous instances where my requests for documentation have gone completely unanswered. Several of the front desk staff demonstrate a notably discourteous demeanor and display a concerning absence of compassion towards patients, which substantially amplifies the existing frustration. Although the physicians themselves maintain a reasonably professional standard, the administrative and reception components of this practice urgently require comprehensive enhancement. Substantial improvements are essential to transform this medical center into a genuinely patient-centered environment.

Terrible service and unhelpful medical staff

this establishment is a complete farce, you're stuck in a phone line for 60 minutes only to have the call dropped repeatedly when seeking assistance. When you present an issue, they simply recommend the identical medication you've been consuming for 24 months and dismiss you without genuine support. There's absolutely zero help available here, and all these newly hired front desk staff carry such an insufferable demeanor. They demand excessive personal details that are entirely unnecessary 😂 Previous interactions were far more straightforward, and the staff from years ago were significantly more accommodating. These current employees unnecessarily complicate every single interaction!

Dangerous medical care putting lives at serious risk

My partner has been critically ill, requiring intensive care multiple times recently And in my view, this medical practice is completely inadequate The most recent hospital admission was due to the doctor's failure to properly complete the emergency documentation Additionally, the receptionists are utterly unhelpful and seem to follow rigid, robotic scripts Attempting to get a sensible response from them is like conversing with an inanimate object I firmly believe this medical practice should be closed down, as they cannot provide consistent medical care or timely appointments for seriously ill patients
