I consulted a locum physician at Ossett Surgery recently regarding ongoing symptoms that were causing me distress. When I tentatively raised the possibility of MS, she callously ridiculed and disregarded my worries. However, during my subsequent visit, I had the incredible fortune of meeting a compassionate nurse named Claire Dearie, who was truly exceptional. She attentively heard my concerns, proactively arranged blood tests, prescribed interim medication, and initiated the referral process to neurology. Claire's empathetic approach and professional care were remarkable, and I am immensely grateful for her support. She is undoubtedly a tremendous resource for Ossett Surgery.

Good doctors, bad receptionist/Booking

Though the GPs and Nurses are great, the appointment bookings and some of the receptionists' attitudes are the things that let down the place. The only way to make an appointment is to call on the same day, either 8 am or 12 pm, and by the time 10 minutes go by, the day is already fully booked. Most of the time, the receptionist is very arrogant and snooty, trying to blame it on me by saying, "You should have called by either 8 am or 12 pm", Which is impossible as I can't even go to the usual bot for 5 mins and then longer due to the queue.

I'm hoping the communication from Ossett Surgery could be refined to eliminate any potential misunderstandings. The current message states: "Confirmation of appt with Ossett Surgery. Please note this confirmation may also include a tel appts also!" This wording left me thoroughly perplexed - was I expected to physically visit the medical practice, or was I meant to anticipate a phone consultation? It would be far more helpful if, moving forward, the practice could send distinct messages: one specifically for in-person appointments and another for telephone consultations. Such a straightforward approach would undoubtedly prevent any bewilderment for patients like myself.

Unhelpful reception ruins doctor's office experience

Attempted to obtain a medical certification from my physician, but the discourteous receptionist directed me to an occupational health website that's completely irrelevant to my fit note request. When I inquired about her identity, I was brusquely informed that I wasn't entitled to know. Apparently, this is standard procedure. I'll be reaching out to my local Member of Parliament to address this unprofessional behavior. The existing reviews about the reception staff at Ossett Surgery seem to corroborate my experience.

Good GP Practice

Only ever had one issue in all the years with this practice & was very disappointed with the outcome but that was several years ago. Always dealt with in a sympathetic manner and had the treatment/tests carried out professionally and quickly. I have felt able to talk to the person dealing with whatever I have gone with and felt listened too. The appointment system is a pain but I understand the group has thousands of patients. I will be moving away and not looking forward to losing my practice but luckily it’s in the same group.

Unprofessional sonographer ruins medical appointment experience

The sonographer displayed an utterly unacceptable level of rudeness and unprofessionalism, making me feel completely degraded as a patient. My appointment was mysteriously cancelled after I inquired about alternative time slots due to childcare issues. My grandmother was outside walking my 6-month-old baby so I could attend this crucial scan. Instead of addressing concerns privately, the sonographer chose to embarrass me in a crowded reception area. She repeatedly emphasized that the situation wasn't her fault, while simultaneously claiming she couldn't perform the scan because I wasn't desperate enough to use the toilet. Ironically, she eventually conducted the scan after realizing she had publicly upset me, revealing her earlier resistance as deliberately obstructive. This appointment was meant to investigate a previous hospital finding, causing significant anxiety, yet she showed zero empathy throughout our interaction. Her colleague in the scanning room compounded my discomfort by staring at me disrespectfully. The staff seemed irritated about being delayed past their preferred 4 pm departure time, and I suspect my younger age contributed to their dismissive attitude. As a healthcare professional myself, I would be mortified to witness such treatment of a patient. Fortunately, this isn't my regular medical practice - had it been, I would unquestionably file a formal complaint and seek alternative care.

Frustrating healthcare experience with poor communication

My recent blood retest appointments have been utterly frustrating. As someone with a visual impairment, I struggle to read the board indicating when the doctor is ready to see me. I previously communicated this difficulty during my prospect surgery, and it was documented in my notes that staff should assist me. However, in my last two appointments, this accommodation was completely ignored. Additionally, during my most recent blood test appointment, the nurse claimed there was no information in the system about my required blood tests, despite being on medication that necessitates regular monitoring. It's absolutely absurd that since the surgeries merged, all prospect surgery patient records seem to have mysteriously disappeared, leaving me in an incredibly challenging and disorganized situation.

Submitted paperwork to a company on December 20th, 2023, and immediately handed over to reception. Received a phone call on January 10th, 2024, informing me of an incorrect form submission. They had possessed my documents since 20.12.23. I understand the holiday period occurred, but that still means my form sat untouched in a tray for 12 working days. Absolutely unacceptable.

Terrible medical service with no hope of improvement

Getting an appointment is nearly impossible. When you finally secure one, you're assigned a random doctor unfamiliar with your medical history who rushes through the consultation. It took me four years to receive a diagnosis after repeatedly reporting my pain, significantly reducing my treatment prospects. I've been attempting to book an appointment all week for my 10-year-old son suffering from a persistent, severe cough. Consistently, I cannot connect with the surgery. On the rare occasion I do reach someone, I'm told all slots are filled and they're overwhelmed. Their suggestion? Try the walk-in centre (with enormous waiting times - is this what my tax contributions fund? Being directed to wait five hours in a crowded waiting room) or call 111. It's no surprise hospitals and the NHS are overburdened when patients cannot access basic medical care. Continuously allowing population growth and constructing new housing developments without expanding medical facilities is utterly ridiculous. I'm seriously considering relocating due to the area's abysmal healthcare provision. Someone must be held accountable for this healthcare disaster. During my childhood, doctors would visit patients at home. Those compassionate days are long gone, despite remarkable technological advances over three decades. We're regressing, allowing our most critical services to disintegrate. My frustration and anxiety about the current healthcare system in Ossett are indescribable. The service is appalling, and without accountability, this decline will persist. Our collective future and our children's well-being are at risk when these fundamental issues remain unaddressed. If the current system cannot manage patient volume, the leadership must urgently advocate for additional local medical facilities. Someone on the administrative board must take responsibility and drive meaningful change. People and children are suffering needlessly.

Within just 15 minutes, I received a return call and successfully secured a morning appointment - quite an achievement given the current seasonal demand and typical medical practice workload. When we arrived, we were promptly seen at 10:30 without any significant waiting time. Dr. Khan was exceptional; her warm demeanor and engaging personality immediately put us at ease. She was particularly attentive to my son, conducting a comprehensive and meticulous examination. Overall, our medical visit was thoroughly positive and met all our expectations.

They were prepared to leave me without critical mental health medication for two to three days due to prescription complications. I was treated as if I was fabricating my medication shortage, and the reception staff displayed a shocking level of indifference and dismissiveness. Attempting to schedule an appointment is an absolute farce - being instructed to call at specific times like 8 or 12 daily, only to be told all slots are filled, and then being asked to try again the next day. This came after repeatedly dialing and encountering a busy signal over 55 times before finally getting through.
