I submitted a prescription renewal request on Thursday and visited the pharmacy on Saturday to collect it. The pharmacy staff informed me they had not received the prescription and asked me to return on Monday. I have been a patient at this practice for 75 years since birth, but the standard of care has been declining, particularly since the pandemic. Interestingly, I receive text messages offering vaccination appointments, which can be booked more easily than regular consultations. When appointments are eventually arranged, I often receive a telephone call from the clinician instead of an in-person visit, which raises concerns about how a proper assessment can be made without a face-to-face consultation. During a recent visit, I requested support with weight management and was simply directed towards external weight loss programmes. On another occasion, after waiting three weeks for an appointment, I raised a health concern and then asked a follow-up question. Difficult to get same-day appointments when needed
Throughout my time as a patient, I have found that accessing GP services at this practice has been consistently challenging. Obtaining same-day appointments proves very difficult, even when contacting the surgery at the recommended time. On several occasions, I have been informed that appointment slots are unavailable and have been asked to contact the practice again the following day, which has contributed to a deterioration in my existing health concerns. When I have been able to book an appointment, I have been advised that only one health matter can be discussed during the consultation, despite having several pressing and related health concerns, including mental wellbeing issues. This limitation has restricted the quality of care I have received and has meant that significant matters affecting my mental health and sleep have not been fully explored. These difficulties in accessing appropriate care have negatively affected my overall health and wellbeing, leaving me with the impression that the practice presents barriers rather than solutions to receiving care. Given my experience, I would not feel confident recommending this surgery to others who are seeking prompt, thorough, and patient-focused healthcare.

Attended an evening appointment after 7 pm and was pleasantly surprised to discover the surgery offered extended hours until 9 pm as part of a collaborative network involving multiple practices. The service was excellent, with staff demonstrating courtesy and helpfulness throughout the visit. Blood tests were carried out efficiently with plenty of staff present to support the service. The appointment ran smoothly, finishing on time, and the healthcare professional conducting the tests was thorough and attentive to my concerns. Having now become aware of this extended hours option, I would definitely make use of this service again in future. Excellent experience overall.

Thorough care despite the morning phone queue rush
I'm 56 and have been attending this GP surgery since birth, as have my mother who is 86 and my grandparents before her! Like most surgeries nowadays, you need to phone at 8am to secure an appointment and while I acknowledge the practice has some areas for improvement, it's really no different from other surgeries and the NHS is clearly under significant strain. I believe the core issue is that the practice is stretched thin with a large patient population and insufficient clinical staff, which naturally makes getting appointments challenging. The team members are consistently pleasant, though occasionally some are unavailable, and I'm sure they face considerable difficult interactions regularly. Despite these challenges, I've always felt they've been meticulous in their care of me! I wouldn't dream of switching to another practice 🙂

I found the service to be very disappointing, with ongoing issues regarding the accuracy of information provided by reception staff, who I also felt were unhelpful and dismissive. I was not kept adequately informed about several important matters including routine health reviews and necessary tests. The prescription handling process has been particularly frustrating, as it typically takes several days for prescriptions to be processed and sent through, yet submitting requests in advance is not permitted. Additionally, I became aware of clinical notes added to my file that I was not informed about until I specifically enquired, which appeared to be related to my attempts to manage my medication timing appropriately. Booking appointments has proven extremely difficult, and even when requesting urgent availability, reception staff have declined these requests based on their own assessment of whether the situation warrants emergency care. Overall, my experience at this practice has been unsatisfactory, and I am considering transferring to another surgery.

I have decided to register with a different practice from the New Year onwards. The main reasons for this decision are the difficulty in reaching the surgery by telephone during booking hours, as calls made at the standard time rarely result in speaking to someone. Additionally, I found interactions with the reception team to be unhelpful and dismissive in tone. It would appear that improved communication training for front-of-house staff could be beneficial. Furthermore, I have experienced delays with prescriptions being transferred to my chosen pharmacy.

I've never experienced a surgery quite like this one. The reception staff don't appear to be available until 9am sharp, which creates issues when appointments are scheduled for that time, as check-in doesn't happen until around 9:15am. Additionally, there can be lengthy waits, and patients sometimes find themselves in the incorrect queue, requiring them to queue again. It might be beneficial if administrative staff were to arrive slightly earlier than the first scheduled appointments, as this could help streamline the check-in process and overall organisation.
