Flu jab efficient, but previous visit disappointing

Having recently attended for a flu vaccination, we must acknowledge that this is an area where the practice performs well. The queue at the other branch location was quite substantial, but we experienced no such issues at this surgery. However, I personally have reservations about returning despite this positive experience. My previous visit was disappointing. After checking in, I waited for nearly an hour before enquiring with reception staff about my appointment status. I was informed I would be seen next, yet another ten minutes passed before I indicated I would leave and manage my condition at home. The receptionist then approached the consulting room, and it appeared the clinician had been unoccupied during this time. The receptionist expressed concern about this situation and asked the clinician to see me. Approximately fifteen minutes later, I was called in, only to be told I had a condition I was confident I did not have, and I was prescribed medication that my records clearly indicated was unsuitable for me. After spending nearly two hours in the waiting area, I decided to leave. I understand the clinician may have been in training, but given this experience, I would only consider returning if it were absolutely necessary.

Nobody gets everything right all the time and the team at this practice are human, just like everyone else. Based on my experience, they consistently make an effort to provide the best care possible and I have been pleased with the standard of care that my family and I have experienced over many years. Despite the mounting demands on general practices, they continue to deliver high-quality patient care. On occasion, patients need to take an active role and show determination to obtain this care, but my experience suggests that this is typically a result of processes rather than individual performance. The vaccination clinic today was straightforward to arrange and ran with excellent organisation. The team members were welcoming and competent throughout. A commendable effort all round!

Referral confusion left us without urgent cardiac care

My partner has been experiencing chest discomfort and respiratory difficulties for more than six weeks. She has required ambulance transport to the local hospital on two separate occasions due to these symptoms. The hospital has identified a cardiac-related condition. She has visited the practice on two occasions requesting a referral to the specialist cardiac clinic at the regional hospital. The initial referral was submitted as a routine case, which she only discovered upon contacting the specialist department directly. Recognising that her condition was worsening, she requested an urgent appointment at the practice to arrange a priority referral. A second referral was subsequently organised, and she received notification on 25 July indicating she would receive an appointment with a cardiac specialist. Given her previous experience of checking the status of her first referral, she again contacted the specialist department and found no record of this second referral. The second referral had been categorised as a rapid access referral, which typically results in appointments within two weeks, despite her symptoms having persisted for six weeks already. When I contacted the referrals department at the practice today, I was informed the rapid access referral had been sent. However, I also contacted the specialist cardiac department twice today, and they confirmed they had not received any rapid referral. I attempted to speak with the referrals department again but was told the staff member was unavailable due to onsite training. I requested to speak with the practice management, but was advised they were away. A receptionist indicated the referrals staff would contact me the following day. While still on the call, I was asking about the expected time for contact when the call was terminated abruptly. Given my partner's cardiac condition, the way this situation has been managed is concerning. There remains uncertainty about whether the rapid referral was actually sent by the practice or received by the specialist department. Meanwhile, my partner continues to struggle with breathing difficulties and chest pain while waiting for this matter to be resolved.

I attended the surgery early on a Monday morning for a blood test appointment. Due to a prior cancellation, I was seen almost straight away despite arriving ahead of schedule. The clinical staff member was welcoming and supportive throughout. The procedure itself was straightforward and comfortable. The front desk staff member was friendly and accommodating, and I was able to secure an appointment very quickly, which I really appreciated.
