Patient Experience Summary

Feedback reflects significant challenges with appointment access and booking systems, which dominate patient concerns. Extended waiting times on phone lines, malfunctioning online booking platforms, and restricted appointment availability windows create substantial barriers to care. Reception experience is mixed, with some patients reporting helpful and compassionate staff whilst others describe dismissive or discourteous interactions. When patients do access care, medical staff including doctors and nurses are frequently praised for professionalism, compassion, and quality treatment. However, communication gaps emerge around test results, medication management, and follow-up care coordination. The practice environment requires attention, with reports of outdated facilities and limited waiting area amenities. Positive themes include same-day appointments for urgent cases and responsive care once access is achieved, though these remain inconsistent across patient experiences.

Key service improvements needed centre on booking system functionality and phone accessibility. The Ask My GP online system experiences frequent technical failures, and telephone queues regularly exceed 30 minutes with calls disconnecting. Reception staff capacity appears stretched, affecting both courtesy and responsiveness. Patients report particular difficulty scheduling routine appointments and medication reviews, with some experiencing gaps in prescription continuity. Whilst clinical care quality receives consistent praise, the pathway to accessing that care remains frustratingly difficult for many patients, leading some to seek alternative providers or emergency services.

Impossible to book a doctor's appointment

Utterly shameful - repeatedly failing to secure a doctor's appointment despite numerous attempts - they don't even bother to record your name, so there's no trace of how many times you've tried to book. Now forced to shell out for a private GP consultation. I've contributed to this healthcare system throughout my entire working life, and now, when I desperately need assistance, they couldn't care less. Their goal seems to be wearing me down until I simply give up and disappear. The compassionate doctor who ran this surgery back in the 1960s, who genuinely prioritized patient care, would be absolutely horrified to witness the current state of this practice.

Helpful receptionist sorted my request quickly

When I phoned to seek out specific details, the front desk staff was incredibly accommodating. Although the information wasn't immediately accessible, I received everything I needed by the following day. The service was exceptionally courteous and thoroughly professional.

Bad!

Rude staff and impossible to reach doctors

This medical practice has been an absolute ordeal to interact with throughout the years. The front desk personnel I consistently encounter are incredibly discourteous and supremely unaccommodating. They exude an attitude that suggests complete disinterest in their job and zero desire to provide assistance. And in the rare event you actually manage to see a physician - which is no small feat - attempting to get them to genuinely hear your concerns is virtually impossible. I've reached my breaking point. Their approach has exponentially complicated my healthcare journey, forcing me to now search for an alternative medical provider due to the immense emotional strain they've inflicted. If the rating system allowed it, I would absolutely assign them zero stars.

Endometriosis pain dismissed after surgery

Generally, their care is mediocre, handling basic concerns, but I've been struggling with intense pain for over a decade. Recently diagnosed with endometriosis through surgical intervention, I've been battling them to address my suffering ever since. Despite their medical credentials, I've been consistently dismissed and inadequately treated. Lately, their service has been particularly poor in attempting to resolve my health challenges, and honestly, if alternative options were available, I would switch immediately. However, I'm currently dependent on their assistance. Without a doubt, this is the most subpar medical practice in Yeovil, and I strongly recommend steering clear of them. I am extremely dissatisfied 🙄

Nurse's cruel response to plane tragedy

Mrs Amanda Botley, the head practice nurse, would seemingly be expected to demonstrate empathy towards those facing mortality. However, her reaction of finding humor in a fatal aviation incident is deeply troubling and raises serious questions about her professional and personal compassion, especially given her significant healthcare leadership position.

Terrible diabetic advice from unhelpful nurse

The reception staff are genuinely pleasant and accommodating, but the medical guidance provided is utterly deplorable. The lead practice nurse, who claims to be a diabetes specialist, consistently dispenses incorrect dietary advice. Despite scheduling 40-minute consultations, appointments are cut short to barely 15 minutes. When patients attempt to voice their concerns, they are dismissively accused of fabricating their experiences. This healthcare facility is a complete disaster, and their conduct is deeply embarrassing and unprofessional.

Months of delays left me without meds

These healthcare professionals are utterly incompetent and unable to manage basic medical procedures. They scheduled my routine blood test but then withheld my essential medication, moving the prescription date forward by 10 days, leaving me without crucial treatment. After promising to process my prescription once the doctor reviews test results, I've now been waiting for 24 days, and my medication is wearing off. As a result, I'm experiencing increasing swelling and pain. I've submitted an official complaint to the NHS due to their repeated mismanagement. To make matters worse, I'm constantly seeing different doctors, with one recommending additional diabetes testing two months ago, yet no blood test has been conducted. I'm actively seeking another medical practice and would appreciate recommendations from anyone who knows a reliable surgery. Their performance is absolutely ridiculous, and they have the audacity to demand a pay rise. What a complete shambles of a healthcare service.

Friendly and helpful medical staff

I've been meaning to share my thoughts for a while now. The employees at this medical center are absolutely exceptional, with the receptionists going above and beyond to provide assistance - they have been incredibly supportive and helpful. The physicians are equally impressive, and I cannot emphasize enough how outstanding all the personnel are at this practice.

Empathetic doctors

I've been struggling with sore throat and tonsillitis for 2 months and, luckily, after leaving a message on Ask my GP, they were able to offer me an appointment on the same day. The doctor was very empathetic, polite and respectful, which is something I don't want to take for granted. I didn't feel rushed during the appointment but I felt heard and he prescribed me some antibiotics, which have been able to help me a bit. It definitely didn't feel like a waste of time, I wasn't rushed and I felt heard, which has not happened with some other doctors unfortunately. I hope that doctor will never change and keep doing a great job, like he already is.

Quick and thorough morning checkup

Fantastic experience at the clinic today. The physician was incredibly detailed and supportive, providing me with a prescription and scheduling additional follow-up appointments. I received a referral letter for a chest x-ray that I can directly present at the hospital. While some people have complained about the waiting area, those minor inconveniences pale in comparison to receiving quality medical care and getting closer to understanding my health condition.

Nurse googled symptoms and dismissed patient

A severely disabled patient experiencing intense dizziness and muscle cramps (partially resulting from medication changes they coerced her into) was "examined" by a nurse who literally resorted to SEARCHING her symptoms online, then dismissively dispatched her home with generic advice to hydrate and rest. The promised specialist consultation? A whopping 6 months in the future. I comprehend financial constraints exist, but this approach is utterly absurd and completely unacceptable.

Rude staff and broken app frustrate patient

This healthcare provider desperately requires significant improvement, with unacceptable service from an organization funded by public money. The GP app is consistently malfunctioning, telephone wait times are excessive, and some reception staff display an unprofessional attitude. A comprehensive overhaul is urgently needed to address these systemic issues and restore proper patient care.

Quick appointment, but dreary waiting room

I was able to secure a prompt appointment for my child, but the clinic's environment is truly disappointing. The space appears run-down and neglected, with merely 13 uncomfortable chairs available. There are no reading materials or entertainment options for children, and the antiquated sound system blares unpleasant music through an old speaker. The place desperately requires renovation, a fresh coat of paint, and a more inviting atmosphere. The entire experience is impersonal, with all interactions conducted through a screen, and I was greeted with information about significant delays. Absolutely unsatisfactory!!!
